An unusually principled young Viking becomes increasing uncomfortable with all the killing and plundering that goes with the job, and sets out on a magical journey in order to bring about world peace. Former Monty Python member Terry Jones attempts to have his story of Erik's seemingly hopeless quest operate as both witty, lunatic satire and sincere children's fantasy. However, despite a good cast and some interesting design elements, the film fails to completely succeed at either of its goals. ~ Judd Blaise, Rovi

This movie is funny, charming, bit dramatic, and downright enjoyable. I've been searching for this movie for a while. If you like Monty Python this will be a treat.

This movie is worth it just to see all the stars-I am a huge Python fan too but I liked this one-Its a fun way to while away a sunday afternoon.

Just because it's Terry Jones doesn't make it a Python production. Would you say the same thing about Labyrinth (The Bog of Eternal Stench was a definite Terry Jones touch)? My only complaint about this is that they recut the movie and dropped 23 minutes from it. It makes the pacing go much faster, but some of the lines I loved in the original version I saw in the early 90's are missing. However, since it's the only version available (unless you are lucky enough to find a good VHS copy of the original) it has to do. Watch it when you are in the mood for some dry and subtle humor.
