The young Catalan Antonio lives in France earning his keep by doing construction work. He gradually falls in love with Claudie, an off-kilter girl with a mixed-race family. As he grows attached to her, he becomes even more willing than he was before to love her as she is, warts and all. However, he wants to understand what could have led her to spending some time inside a mental hospital.
