For those who may question of damage that fossil fuels wreck on the environment, filmmakers Maryann DeLeo and Ellen Goosenberg Kent offer a thoughtful meditation on global warming while offering various suggestions on what we can do to heal the planet we so frequently take for granted. We've all seen the signs: rising sea levels, deadly heat waves, melting ice caps. As troubling as they can be, has our wasteful lifestyle truly pushed us beyond the point of no return? Now, in hopes of making life better not just for ourselves but for future generations as well, DeLeo and Kent ask the pressing questions that need to be asked before showing just what steps need to be taken in order to ensure that relationship between mankind and mother nature remains healthy and well balanced. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Travelling Matt, the leader of the teeny-tiny Fraggle civilization, continues to dispatch informational postcards during his journey into Outer Space (actually the "real" world) during season two of the live-action puppet series Fraggle Rock. As usual, there's a lot of activity in the world beneath the rock in the backyard of the house owned by human inventor Doc. The opening episode is the Dr. Seuss homage "Wembley's Egg," in which Wembley Fraggle protects a lost baby Tree Creature. Later, Travelling Matt returns from Outer Space, only to get into a personality clash with his jealous nephew, Gobo. And in other episodes, noise-sensitive Boober moves into the Cave of Boredom for peace and quiet; cloddish monstrosity Junior Gorg tries to get rid of the Fraggles' precious Trash Heap; Mokey Fraggle decides to live the life of a wandering minstrel; Doc's dog, Sprocket gets stuck in the tunnel between Outer Space and the Fraggles' world; the Doozers uncharacteristically enter into a building competition; Doc's radio causes confusion and disunity amongst the Fraggles; and a huge caterpillar saves Mokey from the evil Gorgs. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Although Oz's longtime narrator, wheelchair-bound prison inmate Augustus Hill (Harold Perrineau Jr.), was killed at the end of the series' fifth season, he is still very much in attendance at the beginning of season six -- albeit from beyond the grave. Hill is, in fact, one of several ghostly prisoners, all of them victims of past tragedies occurring at the experimental "Emerald City" unit at Oswald Correction Facility, who show up to narrate the eight episodes in this, the series' final season on the air. Undaunted by previous failures and setbacks, unit manager Tim McManus (Terry Kinney) remains steadfast in his belief that the prisoners living within "Emerald City" can be rehabilitated if given freedom of movement, extra privileges, and a sense of responsibility and self-worth. Unfortunately, he may not get the chance to carry out his reforms this season, inasmuch as several prisoners have become violently ill due to faulty building substances used to renovate the unit. In another disturbing development, Emerald City's most famous "resident," charismatic Muslim leader Said (Eamonn Walker), is murdered. On a more satisfying note, the ruthlessly ambitious Governor Devlin (Zeljko Ivanek), who for six years has opposed the efforts by McManus and Warden Glynn (Ernie Hudson) to improve prison conditions, may finally be called to account for all of his crooked and underhanded dealings in the past. Oz's climactic episode, running 100 minutes, not only serves up just desserts for Devlin, but also charts the ultimate destinies of two other long-term series regulars, convicts Miguel Alvarez (Kirk Acevedo) and Tobias Beecher (Lee Tergesen). For history buffs who prefer their past served up with a heaping helping of artillery shells and a barrage of gunfire, this career retrospective showcasing three of the greatest military minds of World War II is sure to peak some patriotism. In the first segment, the man who commanded American forces in three major wars before falling to his own overwhelming sense of defiance is profiled in a detailed look at the military career of Douglas MacArthur. A second segment highlighting American General George Patton's successful World War II campaigns paints a vivid portrait of a haunted man obsessed with wartime glory, with the third and final segment focusing on the wartime missions of "Desert Fox" Erwin Rommel, the man who became Germany's youngest Field Marshall before his "Ghost Division" crushed Europe and Africa in a stunning display of power and strategy. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

A lonely architect who was recently abandoned by his live-in girlfriend finds that he's not as alone in his sprawling estate as he had previously thought in director Guillem Morales' minimalist thriller. Félix's (Andoni Gracia) girlfriend, Vera (Mónica López), may be gone, but her possessions, scattered about the house as if she were to walk back through the door at any moment, offer a constant reminder of the failed relationship that he was powerless to salvage. When a desperate stranger who introduces himself as Martin (Agustín Villaronga) shows up on Félix's doorstep begging to make an urgent telephone call, the startled homeowner reluctantly allows the man inside only to realize that his strange guest has seemingly vanished into thin air just moments later. Now convinced that the mysterious Martin is hiding somewhere in his home undetected, Félix's growing paranoia leads him down a dark path in which his home seems to take on its own increasingly menacing personality. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Add Rome: Season 01 to Queue Add Rome: Season 01 to top of Queue
The first season of the lush, lavish and frequently lewd and lascivious British historical drama Rome covers the years 52 to 44BCE, beginning with the return of Julius Caesar (Ciaran Hinds) from the Gallic wars and ending with the fateful "Ides of March". Though returning to a hero's welcome, Caesar realizes that he's stepping into a snake pit of deceit and corruption. The Patrician ruling class, worried that Caesar will make himself emperor and abolish the Republic, intend to strip him of his power. His scheming niece Atia (Polly Walker) is already undercutting her uncle by forcing her daughter Octavia (Kerry Condon) to marry Caesar's most influential nemesis, the aging Pompey (Kenneth Cranham). Playing one side against the other to keep Caesar at bay, Pompey proves so effective that Caesar must ask his friend Marc Antony (James Purefoy) to help him vanquish his foes, even if it means all-out civil war. Meanwhile, a pair of humble soldier, the virtuous family man Vorenus (Kevin McKidd) and the hedonistic Pullo (Ray Stevenson), simply try to stay out of everyone's way and survive--but instead find themselves at Ground Zero of virtually every major historical turning point during the series' turbulent eight-year timespan. Pullo in particular spends much of his time squeaking out of one death-trap after another, somehow managing to enrich or aggrandize himself without even trying. His main contribution during Season One consists of taking Atia's callow son Octavian (Max Pirkis) under his wing, teaching the boy the ways of warfare and women. Eventually Octavian will emerge as the greatest threat against the pro-Caesar forces of Antony after Caesar's assassination--and thus the redoubtable Pullo has once more unwittingly altered the course of history. Not only was Rome an international success during its first season on the air, but the series also garnered an Emmy award for its American run on HBO. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Add The Wire: Season 03 to Queue Add The Wire: Season 03 to top of Queue
Season three of The Wire continues the series' even-handed dissection of the Baltimore "drug wars," as seen through the eyes of both the police investigators and the drug lords. With charismatic hoodlum Stringer Bell (Idris Elba) emerging as the unofficial leader of the Barksdale drug empire, and with narcotics detective James McNulty (Dominic West) allowing his personal demons to catch up with him vis-à-vis an ever-increasing dependence upon booze, a curious dichotomy is established whereby Stringer often comes off as the more mentally stable and morally responsible of the two men. Even so, Stringer and McNulty are but two of the series' 40-plus recurring characters, meaning that their individual travails are never permitted to overwhelm the series' overall narrative thrust. Dictating the direction in which the 12 episodes of season three will follow is a burgeoning political-reform movement in Baltimore, with the ongoing drug investigation becoming a volatile campaign tool. Before long, "body counts" on both sides are being publicly tallied in a manner that dredges up grim memories of Vietnam. And though the story arcs have become more complex and multi-layered, there is still plenty of time to develop such quirky vignettes as the "trading" of drug-free urine from Baltimore's daycare centers. The season's final episode is titled "Mission Accomplished" -- as grotesquely ironic as when those same two words were prematurely applied to war in Iraq. The most startling development of the season-three finale is the sudden demise of one of the series' main players...with his greatest enemy becoming his biggest mourner. ~ Rovi

The sensationalistic murder of diet guru Dr. Herman Tarnower is explored in this stylized take on the tabloid cover story from first-time director Phyllis Nagy. Despite the popularity of the Dr. Tarnower's revolutionary "lose one pound per day" diet, the womanizing ways of the Casanova cardiologist would soon come to a brutal end at the hands of his jealous, prescription drug-addicted lover Jean Harris (Annette Bening). There's a bloody good time to be had by all as the ghoulish Cryptkeeper introduces 13 more stories of horror and havoc in season four of Tales From the Crypt. Treat Williams stars in the season opener "None but the Lonely Heart," playing a gigolo whose past history of murdering old women for their money literally comes back to haunt him. This episode, together with the subsequent "This'll Kill Ya" and "On a Deadman's Chest," was originally presented as part of a 90-minute special. The rest of the season follows the standard story-per-week format, beginning with "Séance," starring Ben Cross and Cathy Moriarity in a malevolent morality play about crooked lawyers and a restless, revenge-seeking spirit. A few weeks later, Christopher Reeve stars in "What's Cookin'," in which a greasy spoon greatly increases its clientele by adding a sinister special ingredient to their barbecue sauce. Other highlights include "Showdown" and "King of the Road," which together comprised the pilot episode of the proposed spin-off series Two Fisted Tales; "Strung Along," with Donald O'Connor as an aging puppeteer whose philandering wife is taught a painful lesson by one of her husband's woodenheaded creations; "Werewolf Concerto," featuring Timothy Dalton as a werewolf hunter who may well have met his match; and the season four finale "Curiosity Killed," another fountain of youth yarn with dire consequences for those who drink too deeply. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
