Season 2 follows cutthroat legal do-gooder Patty Hewes (Glenn Close) as she goes after the murderous CEO of a rapacious energy company, while Patty's no-longer-naive associate Ellen Parsons (Rose Byrne) goes after her because she thinks Patty tried to have her killed. Guiding Ellen in this effort are two FBI agents (Mario Van Peebles, Glenn Kessler) out to entrap Patty in a bribery scheme. Two of the ways they try to get to her are through her second-in-command, Tom Shayes (Tate Donovan), and Uncle Pete (Tom Aldredge), her Mr. Fix-it (with no questions asked). Meanwhile, Ellen meets a sympathetic, if secretive man named Wes Krulik (Timothy Olyphant) at a grief-counseling session, and they're immediately attracted to each other. What Ellen doesn't know is Wes has ties to Rick Messer (David Costabile), the rogue cop Arthur Frobisher (Ted Danson) hired in Season 1 to murder her fiancé. As for Frobisher, Patty's first-season target, he's now her uneasy ally in her effort to take down Walter Kendrick (John Doman), the CEO of Ultima National Resources. Kendrick is accused by scientist Daniel Purcell (William Hurt) of knowingly polluting land around a UNR facility in West Virginia. Purcell's wife is soon murdered and he's charged with the crime. As it happens, Purcell once had an affair with Patty but now he's secretly seeing Kendrick's lawyer, Claire Maddox (Marcia Gay Harden). Patty's husband, Phil (Michael Nouri), who's having an affair as well, gets mixed up in the UNR affair when he's offered the post of U.S. energy secretary. Working for Kendrick are math whiz Finn Garrity (Kevin Corrigan), a cocaine-snorting, price-rigging energy trader, and the Deacon (Darrell Hammond), whose dirty work is less cerebral. ~ Paul Droesch, Rovi

The gang from Paddy's Irish Pub is back for another season of completely inappropriate comedy as It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia returns to the FX Network for its truly offensive fourth season. This season of The Riches opens with the Malloys backed into a corner as a result of the events of last season, when Pete, the best friend of Doug Rich, discovered that they were living Doug and Cherien's life. Unable to make a getaway to Mexico after Dale sabotages their RV, the family is forced to split up, with Wayne taking the money back to the house in the hopes of bribing Pete, and Dahlia heading with the kids towards the border. Things turn complicated quickly, however -- and possibly deadly. Season Six of The Shield opens as Detective Vic Mackey (Michael Chilkis) and the rest of the Farmington District Strike Force mourn the death of their colleague Curtis Lemensky (Kenneth Johnson), who was killed by a hand grenade just before he was to be shipped out of the country to prevent his revealing all of the Force's past peccadilloes to relentless Internal Affairs investigator Lt. Jon Kanvanagh (Forest Whitaker). Upon discovering that he is slated to be forcibly retired from the force, the embittered Mackey embarks upon a personal vendetta, bent upon killing the man responsible for "Lem"'s demise--never suspecting that the person he seeks is his own best friend and colleague, Det. Shane Vendrell (Waylon Goggins). . .who may well beat Vic to the punch by committing suicide. His one best chance of destroying the Strike Force gone, Kavanagh becomes more obsessively unhinged than ever, resorting to strongarming witnesses and tampering with evidence to bring Mackey down. This puts Kavanagh on the outs with his two most fervent supporters (and the only thoroughly honest members of the Force), Dutch Wagenbach (Jay Karnes) and newly promoted Claudette Wyms (CCH Pounder). Wyms in fact is so disillusioned by Kavanagh's tactics that she puts her animosity toward Mackey on the shelf and affords Vic an opportunity to save his job. Other developments this season include the ever-growing (and ever-threatenng) political ambitions of Mackey's old adversary, Councilman Aceveda (Benito Martinez); and Off. It's another season of challenge and turbulence for Tommy (Denis Leary) and the guys. This season, an arson investigation following the beach house fire targets Tommy; Janet (Andrea Roth) worries that her new baby doesn't like her; Tommy's daughter Colleen (Natalie Distler) runs away from home; and a not-guilty verdict is returned in Uncle Teddy's (Lenny Clarke) manslaughter trial. Also during Season 4 (2007), a beloved character commits suicide, and the crew from 62 Truck is savaged in the press for not being able to save seven children from dying in a tragic fire. Along with the full 13-episode Season 4 run, this set also includes six featurettes, 22 deleted scenes, a gag reel, and more.

This typically iconoclastic FX network comedy-drama series was dedicated to the proposition of "Stealing the American Dream." The Malloys were a family of "travellers," roving con artists who lived perpetually on the fringes of society and just outside the reach of the law. After years of running scams and fleecing the unsuspecting, Wayne Malloy (Eddie Izzard) began to wonder if it was all worth the effort. At the same time, Wayne's drug-addict wife Dahlia (Minnie Driver) had been released from prison after a two-year stretch, and was raring to go back on the road with her husband and her equally disreputable children Sam (Aidan Mitchell), Cael (Noel Fisher) and Dehliah (Shannon Marie Woodward). While barreling through the Southland in their RV, the Malloys were involved in a traffic accident (not their fault, for a change!) in which the other drivers, a married couple, were killed. Rifling through the dead motorists' belongings, Wayne and Dahlia discovered that the victims were Doug and Cherein Rich, an upper-middle-class couple who'd just purchase a mansion in a gated community somewhere in Louisiana. Thus handed an opportunity to start life anew, the Malloys "became" the Riches and moved into that selfsame mansion, using their conning-and-hustling skills to convince their new neighbors that they were whom they claimed to be. Carrying the charade to the ultimate, Wayne, alias Mr. Rich, sweettalked his way into a job with family lawyer Hugh Panetta (Gregg Henry), while Dahlia found work as a dental hygienist and the kids tried to fit in at the local high school. Of course, there was always the possibility (or rather the likelihood) that the Malloys would revert to their old dishonest ways, especially whenever the former crooked associates would breeze into town. Forever playing fast and loose with manners, morals and audience expectations, the weekly, 60-minute The Riches made its cable-TV bow on March 12, 2007. Hal Erickson

It looks like the career of the spectacular successful--and spectacularly corrupt--Farmington District Stike Force is about to screech to a halt in the the fifth season of the gritty cop drama The Shield. It's hard for Force leader Det. Vic Mackey (Michael Chilkis) to go about his business as usual (beating confessions out of prisoners, planting evidence, even committing cold-blooded murder) with Lt. Jon Kavanagh (Forest Whitaker) from Internal Affairs breathing down his neck. Dedicated to the point of manic obsession, Kavanagh puts the screws on imprisoned Force member Curtis "Lemonhead" Lemensky (Kenneth Johnson), hoping that Lem will crack and spill his guts about his coworkers' illegal tactics. Before long, each member of Mackey's team is suspected the other of disloyalty and playing along with Kavanagh, especially after the relentless investigator plants a bug in their favorite hangout, then moves into their headquarters. In other Season Five developments, closeted team member Julien Lowe (Michael Jace) is "outed", much to the astonishment of his coworkers. And after several near misses, Det. Claudette Wyms (CCH Pounder), the "conscience" of the Strike Force, is finally promoted to Captain. Meanwhile, Off. Danielle "Danny" Sofer (Catherine Dent) still refuses to reveal the identity of her baby's father, though it really isn't all that hard to figure out who it is. At season's end, Vic arranges for Lem to be moved out of the country for his own good as well as the good of his coworkers. Unfortunately, Detective Shane Vendrell (Waylon Goggins), the loosest of the Force's "loose cannons", trumps all his previous outrages by making dead certain that Lem will never talk to anyone! ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
