Luke Perry stars in this biography of the late Lane Frost, a champion bull rider who in 1987 won a rodeo world championship at the tender age of 21. In Eight Seconds (the title refers to the minimum amount of time a rider must stay on a bull in competition), Lane Frost is a young man from Oklahoma who learns to ride, hoping to win the approval of his emotionally distant father. As Lane works his way up the rodeo circuit with his best friend Tuff Hedeman (Stephen Baldwin), he meets Kelly Kyle (Cynthia Geary), a pretty barrel-race rider with whom he falls in love. Lane and Kelly marry, but Lane stubbornly refuses any help from Kelly's wealthy parents, forcing the young couple to live a hand-to-mouth existence, and while Lane's dedication to rodeo and its fans earns him a devoted following, it also keeps him away from Kelly and threatens to sink their relationship. Lane's hard work pays off when he wins the 1987 world championship, but the danger of the sport catches up with him two years later, when he dies as a result of an accident during competition. Country star Vince Gill appears onscreen with his band; keep an eye peeled for a brief appearance by Renee Zellweger, two years before her breakthrough role in Jerry Maguire. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

As the lead singer with the pop duo Wham!, George Michael became a major star in the mid-'80s, only to leave the group at the height of their fame and achieve even greater success as a solo artist. George Michael is a two-part documentary that first traces his rise to fame with Wham!, and his internationally successful solo album Faith. In its second part, George Michael offers an in-depth look at the making of Michael's 1990 album Listen Without Prejudice, Vol. 1, an ambitious set that found him reaching past youth-oriented pop into a more mature and ambitious direction. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi
Wembley Stadium has seen its share of stars, benefits and concerts, but none quite like this. Some of England's biggest and brightest stars come out to pay tribute to Nelson Mandela on his 70th birthday. This concert features full sets from Dire Straits, who was joined by Eric Clapton, Sting, George Michael, Eurythmics, Simple Minds, Peter Gabriel, UB40, Tracy Chapman, and many others. ~ Amy Lewis, Rovi
Detroit cop Axel Foley (Eddie Murphy) has seemingly smoothed out his differences with his Beverly Hills superior Bogomil (Ronny Cox), but there's trouble ahead for both men, not to mention two other holdovers from the first Cop film, officers Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) and Taggart (John Ashton). The "untouchable" heavy this time out is masterminding a series of violent robberies, committed by leather-freak hoods Dean Stockwell and Brigitte Nielsen. Unaccumstomed to this nastiness, Bogomil entreats street-smart Foley to help find the miscreants. But mean-spirited chief of police Lutz (Allen Garfield) will brook no interference from outsiders-especially the profanely insouciant Mr. Foley. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

George Michael, Elton John, and Bob Geldof are among the musical luminaries performing at a live concert in 1987 for the benefit of AIDS victims. The concert was held at Wembley Arena in London to raise money and awareness about the disease, which has killed millions of people worldwide. Among the songs included in the program are "I Guess That's Why They Call It the Blues," "Everything She Wants," and "Stand By Me." ~ Rose of Sharon Winter, Rovi
Best known for their radio staples "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" and "Careless Whisper," the seminal 80s pop group Wham! (George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley) shot Wham! In China: Foreign Skies circa 1985. Although Lindsay Anderson is credited as director, Michael fired him early on due to extensive on-set disagreements (that's putting it mildly) and had the film reedited to place less emphasis on China and more emphasis on Wham!. In the resulting film, the group performs 12 numbers, including the aforementioned hits, "Ray Of Sunshine," "Blue," and "Young Guns (Go for It!)". ~ Nathan Southern, Rovi

- Wham!
