Written and directed by Italian filmmaker Pupi Avati, Il Cuore Altrove is a romantic drama centering on Nello, a college Humanities teacher played by Neri Marcoré. His parents are well-to-do tailors who work for the Pope, and they don't approve of Nello's line of work. At their urging, Nello moves to Bologna where he meets and falls in love with Angela, a local blind girl played by Vanessa Incontrada. But their relationship isn't a simple one. Her parents don't believe that a simple teacher is worthy of their daughter, his parents protest because she is blind, and her ex-boyfriend may not be completely out of the picture. Adding one more wrench in the gears is a doctor who might be able to restore Angela's sight, leading Nello to wonder if she'll still feel for him if she isn't blind. Giancarlo Gianinni also stars as Nello's father. ~ Matthew Tobey, Rovi

Italian pop singer Nino D'Angelo wrote, directed, and stars in this broad satiric comedy. Leonardo Di Capri (D'Angelo) first loses his job selling flowers in a cemetery, and then learns he must give up custody of his son. A dispirited Leonardo plans to escort the boy back to his mother and then kill himself, but the ferry to the Island of Capri is out of commission due to a strike in the shipyard. A gangster named Aitano offers to let Leonardo and his boy tag along aboard his ship, the Aitanic, which is making the rounds in violation of the strike. En route to Capri, Leonardo meets Giulia Roberti (Sabina Began), a call girl looking to get away from crooked lawyer Riccardo (Mauro Di Francesco), who hired her as his escort. It's love at first sight for Leonardo and Giulia, but when the Aitanic hits some rocks near the coast, a sinking ship could put an end to their romance. Nino D'Angelo also appears in a secondary role as Neon, a tastelessly flamboyant rock star. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

Popular Italian comedian Neri Parenti directs this sketch-based movie about Italy's famously obsessive soccer fans. In one segment, a doctor forbids his son to marry the daughter of a pilot because he supports a rival team. In another, a Milanese cabby installs a satellite dish in his taxi only to have it co-opted by pushy Roman fans. In yet another scene, a Neapolitan crook breaks into a house only to realize that it's the home of his favorite soccer star. ~ Jonathan Crow, Rovi

This Italian comedy takes an affectionate look at a motley group of free-lance photographers desperate to grab a good shot of a celebrity, with a host of Italian TV personalities appearing as themselves. "The Potato" (Roberto Brunetti) is a would-be paparazzo who lives with his uncle (Christian De Sica) and two other aspiring cameramen, "King" (Diego Abatantuono) and "Ciro 3000" (Nino D'Angelo). They join forces with the remarkably inept "Mr. Bean" (Massimo Boldi, and no relation to Rowan Atkinson's better-known character of the same name) in hopes of getting the kind of pictures that will make their reputation. The stalked celebrities in Paparazzi include Brigitte Nielsen, who with characteristic aggressiveness threatens one of the shutterbugs with a large pair of scissors. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

- Christian de Sica, Massimo Boldi, (more)
Having gained a wide following in her native Italy for her independent short films and videos, Roberta Torre made her feature-film directorial debut with an outrageous musical comedy retrospective on the life of a slain Sicilian gangster. The story begins with the shooting of gangster Tano Guarrasi. Known as a snazzy dresser with a mile-wide jealous streak that encompassed his wife, daughters and his sister, Tano is not mourned. But it is these very family members who two years later --while preparing for the wedding of Guarrasi's sister Franca -- recount his life and times as a Cosa Nostra criminal. The bride is happy about her nuptials, but remains haunted by her brother. Sure enough, gangsters burst in after the ceremony and start shooting. Afterwards, a legend circulates that Tano returned from the grave to protect her sister's virginity. ~ Sandra Brennan, Rovi
- Starring:
- Ciccio Guarino, Enzo Paglino, (more)
La Ragazza del Metro translates to The Girl on the Underground -- "underground", of course, referring to "subway." That girl, played by Roberta Olivieri, is wealthy but doesn't want anyone to know it. She is especially determined to keep this information from the handsome pianist (Nino D'Angelo), with whom she has fallen in love. The truth eventually outs when the girl's jealous lover exerts his brutishness upon her. Caring not a whit about class distinctions, the pianist is only concerned with rescuing his lady love from her vicious "protector." ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
In this teen-oriented, stereotypical, and uneven romantic comedy, a successor to the earlier Un Jeans E Una Maglietta, Nino D'Angelo is still after (Anna) Maria (Roberta Olivieri) but this time, he is at work making pizzas and unable to call Maria at home because her father would be upset. One day Nino is forced to go north to a ski resort in order to keep up his livelihood and so he asks a friend to be a middleman in a clandestine telephone relationship with Maria. Nino's troubles are just starting since his friend tries to sabotage his already difficult romance, and in the new hotel where he works, the owner's daughter has her sights set on him. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, Rovi
