"It feeds on fear!" read the advertising tagline for this Roger Corman-produced shocker. What could be scarier than a rogue crocodile, except maybe a rogue dinosaur? How about a combination thereof -- a DinoCroc? Hoping to create a cheap alternative to expensive prescription medicines, the greedy Gereco Corporation genetically manipulates a small supply of DNA from a prehistoric creature called the Sarcosuchus. Suddenly revived and very hungry, this ancient "DinoCroc" kills indiscriminately (in some very gory scenes that border on the grotesquely hilarious), but has a special fondness for human flesh. Professional herpetologist and crocodile hunter Dick Sydney (Costas Mandylor) is brought in from Australia to stop the rampaging beast, with the grudging assistance of female scientist Paula Kennedy (Joanna Pacula) and the more willing cooperation of Sheriff Harper (Charles Napier) and his ever-imperiled daughter, Diane (Jane Longnecker). Along the way, the viewer is treated to gratuitous dollops of sex and bad language, which along with the excessive violence earned the film an R rating in its original form. The climax is right out of the movie Them, with a bit of urban legend-spinning thrown in. In this dark comedy, a group of retirees wants to save their homes -- but they're not typical senior citizens trying to make the most of their Social Security checks. Four aging former mobsters -- Joey "Bats" Pistella (Burt Reynolds), Bobby Bartellemeo (Richard Dreyfuss), Mike the Brick (Dan Hedaya), and Tony "The Mouth" Donato (Seymour Cassel) -- live in the same rundown Miami apartment complex, the Raj Mahal. New owners hope to clear out the current tenants and replace them with a younger, more lucrative clientele. But the veteran gangsters don't want to move, so to scrape up the extra rent money, they take a job executing the father of a Miami mob boss. They happen to know he's already dead, so all they have to do is make it look like they did the hit. Their problems start when loudmouthed ladies' man Tony tells too much to Ferris (Jennifer Tilly), a stripper, and soon she's talked him into murdering her mother (Lainie Kazan) in exchange for her silence. This Australian giant-crocodile film from director James D.R. Hickox borrows shamelessly from Jaws, Jurassic Park, and even the American Godzilla. Two surfers (Dax Miller, Matt Borlenghi), a female videographer (Katie Fischer), and a smarmy promoter (Joel West) come to the South Seas (gorgeously photographed by cinematographer Christopher C. Pearson) in order to shoot a video of "blood surfing," which basically means surfing with a great number of hungry sharks in the water. They survive the sharks, but when one of the toothy fish literally explodes in a geyser of gore, it becomes apparent that there is something far more dangerous lurking beneath the beautiful blue waves. The characters are chased through the water and the jungle and abducted by crazed locals with machine guns before finally coming face to face with the monstrous giant crocodile intent on making meals of them. There's also the requisite subplot involving a crusty former sea captain (Duncan Regehr) with a vendetta against the beast (which he doesn't live to settle), as well as vine-swinging, plenty of sex and gore, and one of the absolute worst puns of all time. In a spoof of the popular NBC sitcom Friends, Kelly (Christina Applegate) goes out with delivery guy Tom (Matt Borlenghi), who is trying to get even with his regular girl Shannon (Nicole Eggert). In retaliation, Shannon agrees to date a middle-aged millionaire named Henry (Alan Thicke). Both couples end up at a cheap diner, where they do their best to "out-sex" each other. In the fifth installment in the Nightmare on Elm Street series, Alice (Lisa Wilcox) begins the film with the notion that she is safe after she vanquished the evil Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund) by learning how to battle the dreamworld psychopath within her own unconscious mind. But somehow Freddy has survived, and Alice discovers that he's found a place where Alice can't protect herself when he taps into the dreams of her unborn child. Freddy is soon leaving a trail of destruction while the child is still in the womb, and he will become even more deadly when the child comes to term. Memorable moments include Freddy's attack on a comic book artist and his Hellish experiences when "the bastard son of a hundred maniacs" is locked in an insane asylum with a nun.
