Patricia Routledge, best known to television viewers as the status-obsessed Hyacinth Bucket on the long-running British comedy series Keeping Up Appearances, takes on a very different role in this made-for-TV mystery. Hetty Wainthropp (Routledge) is a sensible and practical woman in her early sixties. When a close friend's son goes missing, Hetty decides the police aren't doing enough to track him down, and sets out to find him herself. When Hetty's plan proves to be a success, she gets a private detective's license and becomes a full-time sleuth, to the slight annoyance of her kitchen-phobic husband. Missing Persons became a pilot for a series of Hetty Wainthropp mysteries starring Routledge, which ran for four seasons; the character was adapted from the writings of novelist David Cook. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

He remembers that Penny used to embroil him in adventures that threatened life and limb. Apparently nothing has changed, and before long Penny has inveigled Westgate into helping her locate a missing archaeologist named Pilkington. The Chain is linked by a series of moves. As one couple moves out of their current residence to live in posher quarters, another moves in, and so it goes all the way up to the lavish mansioned owned by self-made millionaire Leo McKern. The cycle starts all over again when McKern, wishing to be closer to his roots, returns to the working-class neighborhood whence he came. Each move is wryly commented upon by the team of professional movers headed by Warren Mitchell. The enormously gifted British cast includes Billie Whitelaw, Nigel Hawthorne, Maurice Denham, Denis Lawson, Phyllis Logan, and David Troughton. John Huston directed this exciting World War II action film, which culminates in a rousing soccer game. In a German prisoner of war camp, Major Karl von Steiner (Max Von Sydow), the camp commander, once a member of the German national soccer team, decides to put together a soccer match between a team of Allied prisoners, led by Captain John Colby (Michael Caine), a former English international soccer player. The game is to be played in Colombes Stadium in Paris and exploited for maximum propaganda effect by the Nazi publicity machine. Robert Hatch (Sylvester Stallone) is enlisted to assist the Allied prisoners to train for the event. But, in fact, the Allies are planning a risky escape during the soccer match. Trevor Howard is virtually the whole show in Sir Henry at Rawlinson End. He plays an eccentric-to-the-point-of-insanity nobleman whose love affair with the bottle is a long standing source of family embarrassment. Still, when the family mansion is plagued by an unfriendly ghost, Howard finds himself the only one willing or able to exorcise the spirit. Set during World War I, Zeppelin stars Michael York as Geoffrey Richter-Douglas, a British defector who goes to work in the fledgling German airship industry. In truth, Richter-Douglas is a spy, who has feigned defection in order to steal the plans for the revolutionary new Zeppelin. Our hero goes under cover so well that, when he tries to inform his own government of a German plan to steal the Magna Carta and thus irreparably damage British morale, no one believes him!
