In an episode blatantly inspired by current events (those of early 1991, that is), the network carrying "FYI" is taken over by a huge corporation called American Industrial Enterprises. Almost immediately, the company's barracudalike VP Barbara Boyle (Nancy Youngblut) begins imposing Draconian budget limitations on the "FYI" staffers; at one point, investigative reporter Frank [Joe Regalbuto] is forced to go undercover wearing only a ludicrous pair of "Groucho glasses" as a disguise. Finally, Murphy (Candice Bergen) decides to stage a revolt--with astonishing results. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
This slapstick parody of space movies chronicles the riotous exploits of a group of dim-bulbed, misguided aliens under the mistaken impression that they are supposed to invade the Earth after they hear a rebroadcast of Orson Welles' notorious "War of the Worlds" one Halloween night. Thinking they are late, they rush in with their ramshackle spaceship and end up in Big Bean, Illinois, a peaceful midwestern town. Naturally after they announce they want to kill the "Earth scum," the residents want to kill them. Fortunately, the town sheriff and his daughter try to keep the moronic Martians safe and help their captain get them safely back in space. ~ Sandra Brennan, Rovi

Diane (Shelley Long) uses the old "feminine intuition" ploy to wrangle yet another marriage proposal out of Sam (Ted Danson). In a rash moment, Sam pops the question -- only to be rejected again by the mercurial Diane. One thing leads to another (as things often do), and Sam finds himself standing before a judge, facing assault and battery charges brought against him by Diane, her neck in an unfashionable brace. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
Hunter (Rick Hunter) and McCall (Stepfanie Kramer) are faced with an ethical dilemma while investigating the murder of Latino crime boss Max Santiago (Fred Asparagus). Early on, the detectives figure out that the killer was a prominent community leader, and are also able to determine the motive for the killing. Painfully aware of the ramifications of revealing this information, Hunter and McCall are on the verge of giving up the case--and quitting the force! Rudy Ramos joins the regular cast in the role of Reuben Garcia. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
Quincy (Jack Klugman) positively identifies the charred remains of a motel-fire victim as being the body of Jessica Ross (Jessica Walter), the most popular and highest-paid female journalist in the country. Imagine Quincy susprise when, while appearing on a televised press conference to announce his finding, Jessica herself waltzes into the room, very much alive. Though advised to keep a low profile after this humiliating experience, Quincy intends to prove that the woman claiming to be Jessica is an impostor--and that a murder may have been committed. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
Ironside (Raymond Burr) investigates a perversely amusing situation wherein an elusive criminal has been burglarizing other criminals. The trail of evidence leads to a halfway house for ex-cons, run by former jailbird Lou Karns (Pat Hingle). Though lighthearted in nature, the episode turns serious when the unknown thief steals money from the Mob, whereupon Karns and his "customers" may well be targeted for extermination. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
