As a condition of her parole from juvenile hall, embittered teenager Kris Furillo goes to work at Raintree Horse Farm, located in Fremont, CA, as the ABC Family Channel series Wildfire inaugurates its first season. Upon her arrival, Kris saves the life of Wildfire, an unbroken horse who'd been slated to be destroyed because it was deemed "useless" and "un-trainable." Having herself been consigned to the ash heap of society as an incorrigible loser, Kris forms a strong bond with Wildfire, who will respond only to her commands. As the friendship between girl and horse intensifies, the owner of Raintree, divorcée Jean Ritter (Nana Visitor), begins to see potential in Wildfire as a racing horse, and before long she is pinning her hopes on the notion that Wildfire -- and by extension, Kris -- will enable Jean to restore her family's fortune. Meanwhile, the Ritter family's traditional rivals, the Davis clan, demonstrate that they are willing to do practically anything to prevent Wildfire from stealing thunder from their own stable of horses. In particular, snooty teenager Danielle Davis (Nicole Tubiola) is determined to force Kris off the Raintree property, if for no other reason than Kris has stolen the heart of Danielle's erstwhile boyfriend, Jean's son Matt Ritter (Micah Alberti). Curiously, Danielle's down-to-Earth brother Junior Davis (Ryan Sypek) ends up as one of Kris' best friends and strongest supporters! During the 12 episodes of season one, Kris has a disturbing run-in with her mother Barb (Stacy Haiduk), who is accused of stealing valuables from the Ritter home; Matt develops a gambling problem which siphons much-needed money from his mom's bank account (already depleted by the exigencies of feed bills, IRS payments, and the like); Jean Ritter's troublesome ex-husband Pete (Joe Lando) pops up at the least opportune moment; Kris risks being returned to "juvie" when she starts taking prescription painkillers; and there is intrigue aplenty involving a famous female jockey named Tina Sharp (Amy Jo Johnson). As the season ends, we see a more vulnerable side of the unlovable Danielle Davis as she desperately seeks out the mother who had deserted her many years before. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

The Charmed One's grandma Penny (Jennifer Rhodes) is invited to the Wiccaning ceremony for baby Chris. Fed up with the girls' noisy sibling rivalry, "Grams" casts a spell, transforming the trio into teenagers. This situation proves somewhat embarrassing when the younger version of Phoebe (Alyssa Milano) attends an award ceremony. Meanwhile, Leo (Brian Krause) tries to figure out the motivation behind an attack on little Wyatt by consulting a demonic seer (played in the first of several guest appearances by former Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel co-star Charisma Carpenter). ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Upon finding out that the pregnant Piper suffers from toxemia, her doctor prescribes complete rest and avoidance of all tension. This may prove difficult, inasmuch as Piper's sisters and her Whitelighter, Leo (Brian Krause), have suddenly lost all their powers -- and worse still, all magic in the world has been expunged. It is all the result of a summit meeting wherein the representatives of evil hatch a scheme to take control of Piper's unborn child -- who, as the episode ends, clearly won't stay unborn for long. On top of all this, Victor Bennett (James Read), father of Piper and Phoebe (Alyssa Milano), has a most unsettling surprise for them. ~ Rovi

Still waging an internal battle between his good and evil sides, Cole (Julian McMahon) becomes convinced that a malevolent outside force is rechannelling him into committing murder. That "force" turns out to be Barbas (Billy Drago), the Demon of Fear, and an old nemesis of the Charmed Ones. Although Phoebe (Holly Marie Combs) and Piper (Alyssa Milano) steer clear of Cole's plight for fear of further strengthening Barbas, Paige (Rose McGowan) has no qualms about trying to vanquish the Demon of Fear, who in retaliation launches a campaign of psychological terror that turns the girls against one another in an extremely violent fashion. ~ Rovi

In the first installment of the two-part "Workforce," a radiation leak, caused by a collision between the Voyager and a floating space mine, forces the crew members to evacuate to the planet Quarra. Here they are captured, brainwashed, and placed into forced labor. Her mind under the complete control of her captors, and with no memory of her previous existence, Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) so loves her new job that she ends up a prime candidate to carry out a diabolical assassination scheme. In the concluding half of Charmed's fourth-season opener (originally telecast as a single two-hour episode), Charmed Ones Piper and Phoebe Halliwell (Holly Marie Combs, Alyssa Milano) adjust to the presence of the half sister they never knew they had: Paige Matthews (Rose McGowan), who like Piper and Phoebe possesses peculiar powers of benevolent witchcraft. But with Paige's arrival comes more trouble for the Halliwell girls, who have not entirely overcome the death of their sister Prue at the hands of a demon -- especially since Phoebe has had a vision of Paige being killed by that selfsame demon. This episode introduces a new and formidable Charmed villain, The Source of All Evil (personified by actor Bennet Guillory). ~ Rovi

Reese Witherspoon stars in this romantic comedy, the feature film debut of award-winning Australian director Robert Luketic. As a ravishing Miss Hawaiian Tropic, sorority president, and calendar girl, Elle Woods (Witherspoon) is a big hit on the campus of her sun-drenched Los Angeles college. She's also got the perfect boyfriend in Warner Huntington III (Matthew Davis), a wealthy East Coast blue blood. Fearing that his snooty friends and family will never accept the bubble-headed Elle, however, Warner dumps her before heading off to graduate law school at Harvard University. Determined to win back her man, Elle enrolls in the same imposing institution, quickly becoming an object of scorn and ridicule, especially to Warner's old prep school flame (Selma Blair). An alcoholic cop turned private eye falls for the woman he's hired to investigate in this thriller produced for cable network HBO. Monied Zachariah Dodd (James Read) wants to divorce his wife, Eve (Gloria Reuben), so he hires recovering drunk Michael Nash (Luke Perry) to spy on her, hoping to prove she's an adulteress. Michael instead learns that she's a kindly woman who takes care of her elderly mother -- and endures physical abuse at Zachariah's hands. When Eve tries to commit suicide by drowning herself, he rescues her. Soon, the investigator and his subject find themselves caught up in a passionate affair. One night, Eve shows up claiming to have killed her husband after another domestic incident. Michael helps her cover up the crime and soon finds himself under suspicion of murder. Only attorney Beth Sussman (Lisa Edelstein), Michael's friend and employer, can save him from the meticulous detective (Peter Coyote) who's out to get him. Director Marc Bienstock previously collaborated with screenwriter Vladimir Nemirovsky on another thriller, 1997's The Beneficiary. Nemirovsky himself appears in the cast of Indiscreet, alongside Beverly Hills 90120 vet Luke Perry and ER actress Gloria Reuben. At first glance, the made-for-TV Harvest of Fire would seem to be a gender-switch variation on the theatrical feature Witness (1985), but it is much more than that. Assigned to investigate the possibility of a hate crime when three barns are burned in an Amish community in Iowa, FBI agent Sally Russwell (Lolita Davidovich) is given a far-from-warm welcome by the locals when she arrives at the scene of the crime. Shunned as one of "the English" -- that is, an outsider -- Sally is able to gain the confidence only of entrepreneurial Amish widow Annie Beiler (Patty Duke), who is as curious and inquisitive about the outside world as Sally is of Annie's world. The shaky but solid bond formed between the two women enables Sally to proceed with her investigation -- and, in the process, to expose several unpleasant secrets concerning the tightly-knit community. Veteran character actor Turhan Bey makes a rare TV appearance in this episode, set in Cairo, Egypt. Having arrived in the Land of the Pharoahs as part of a cultural exchange program, Jessica (Angela Lansbury) soon becomes involved in a perplexing case involving the theft of a priceless Egyptian relic, a gang of smugglers, and the CIA. And as usual, she helps to extricate an old friend from a murder charge. Also showing up in this installment is Jeri Ryan, still a few years removed from her costarring stint as Seven of Nine on Star Trek: Voyager. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Love Crimes, an erotic thriller directed by Lizzie Borden, explores the psychology of a con man posing as a photographer, who seduces women and then blackmails them using humiliating, revealing pictures he has taken of them. David Hanover (Patrick Bergin) preys on the hopes of women by offering them love and a possible career as fashion models. When some of the women complain, but refuse to aid in Hanover's prosecution, DA Dana Greenway (Sean Young) becomes obsessed with catching Hanover, to the point where she tracks him down and spys on him in his secluded home, making herself a potential victim. He catches her and holds her captive. Feminist filmmaker Borden, who also directed the remarkable, low-budget film Working Girls, raises interesting questions regarding sex, humiliation and male-female relationships, but the film is spoiled by the ambiguity of her central character, Dana. An abused child herself, she has the same self-loathing that the other woman who are preyed upon by Hanover possess, but her motivations for her actions remain murky. Despite these flaws, Borden, always an interesting filmmaker, raises important issues which perhaps can't be adequately resolved using the restrictions of the thriller genre. ~ Linda Rasmussen, Rovi
