The General Lee is back and so are the Duke boys in this big-screen adaptation of the hit TV series, brought to you by Jay Chandrasekhar of the Broken Lizard comedy troupe. Set in the "present day," the story follows Bo (Seann William Scott) and Luke (Johnny Knoxville) as they cruise around Hazzard County and wreck havoc in their classic 1969 Dodge Charger. Together with their scantily clad cousin Daisy (Jessica Simpson) and moonshining Uncle Jesse (Willie Nelson), the two good old boys battle the corrupt county commissioner Boss Hog (Burt Reynolds) when he and local Sheriff Roscoe P. Coltrane (M.C. Gainey) threaten to take away the family farm. Cult filmmaker J.R. Bookwalter (The Dead Next Door) directed this sequel to the 1999 shocker helmed by David DeCoteau under the pseudonym "Jack Reed." Much as the original aped 1987's Night of the Demons, this installment mimics The Blair Witch Project with a number of handheld camcorder shots and a similar approach. The plot concerns Professor Sparrow (Ariauna Albright) and her students, who are called to investigate the discovery of some unmarked graves by a construction crew planning a new shopping mall. The mall site just happens to contain a haunted house, where Prof. Sparrow and her students stay while they investigate the graves, the haunting, and a found videotape depicting the murder of a young couple in the nearby woods. As they dig deeper, interviewing the sinister town historian (Andrew Prine of The Miracle Worker and Grizzly) along with doing their own research, the group discovers information about an evil witch named Lilith who lived in the area. She was burned at the stake centuries before and has come back for revenge along with her bloodthirsty coven of red-eyed demons, leading to possessions, murders, and the obligatory twist ending. Bookwalter's atmospheric direction is a step up from the original, and paved the way for yet another sequel (Witchouse 3: Demon Fire) the following year. ~ Robert Firsching, Rovi

J. Max Burnett made his directorial debut with this family drama about a small-town sports announcer and a high school football team, the Possums. In the dying town of Nowata, Oklahoma, the giant retail Maxi Mart threatens to destroy the local hardware store run by Will Clark (Mac Davis), a lifelong Possums supporter. Life in Nowata is such that mayor Charlie Lawton (Andrew Prine) is on the brink of cancelling the school sports program. To save the Possums, Will goes on the air at the local radio station, fabricating fantastic Possum plays that never happened. In these imaginary games, the phenomenal fantasy team goes on a winning streak and is headed toward the finals. Ignoring the reactions of his wife Elizabeth (Cynthia Sikes) and others, Will soon has the support of the locals. As the Possums peak, the legit champions in neighboring Pratville are not pleased -- and the final showdown happens in a gridiron confrontation. This slick and stylish episode is something of a variation of the classic film noir DOA, with overtones of Raymond Chandler. Travelling to Hollywood in the company of elderly writer Walter Murray (Mike Connors), with whom she is slated to collaborate on a movie script, Jessica (Angela Lansbury) makes a brief stop at a seedy motel-diner. Later that evening, Walter is found dead in his motel room, leaving behind a tape recording detailing the events leading up to his demise. In a series of stunningly photographed black-and-white flashbacks, Jessica learns that on the previous evening, Walter had been reunited with a woman (Elizabeth Ashley) whom he hadn't seen in 19 years--not since he killed her abusive husband! ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

A touch of comic relief adds to this otherwise predictable sci-fi actioner about a mad scientist (Roy Dotrice) holed up in a remote jungle fortress in Mexico with his time-machine and robotic know-how. He plans on zapping himself back to the Roman Empire to reign as emperor in Caesar's stead thereby ruining a certain 20th-century pizza franchise. Standing in the way is a pilot who was saved from imminent extinction when the evil doctor patched him together with mechanical body parts. Once the crazed scientist decides to do away with his "Man-droid," the 'droid-human escapes and rounds up a gang of accomplices to head back up-river and do the scientist in. In honor of Martin Luther King's birthday, PBS' Wonderworks presentation of January 14, 1985 was And the Children Shall Lead. Set in Mississippi in 1964, the 60-minute drama recreates the black voter registration drive of that year. The events are seen through the eyes of a young black girl, played by Pam Polito. Danny Glover and Denise Nicholas co-star as Polito's parents, who are encouraged to participate in local civil rights activities when the Freedom Riders come to town. Andrew Prine plays the requisite redneck white sheriff.
