Prolific novelist turned filmmaker Han Zhijun writes and directs this quiet tale of two women who may wear the same color of scarf, but whose destinies prove undeniably disparate. Xifeng and Shaunguy both live in the same snowy Chinese village, and around their respective necks hangs the same unmistakable red scarf. A kindhearted widow whose husband was killed in a tragic bear attack, Xifeng develops a crush on her neighbor Yang Tianlong. Later, as Xifeng and Yang venture into the wilderness on a hunting excursion, Yang accidentally injures Shaungyu and quickly turns himself in to authorities. In Yang's absence, the devoted Xifeng dutifully looks after his young daughters. Later, when Yang returns home after serving his sentence, Shaungyu refuses to forgive him. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi
