The Tartu of the title refers to a foul-tempered Seminole sorcerer (Doug Hobart) who returns from the dead as a crusty ghoul to torment and destroy a group of young archaeology students who unwittingly violate his grave during field studies in the Everglades. Tartu assumes the shapes of a variety of local fauna to exact his revenge, including a venomous snake (with remarkable acrobatic qualities) and a ferocious alligator; he even takes the form (for reasons unknown) of a not-so-indigenous man-eating shark. Not before we witness the ultimate horror of Tartu camping it up in a pair of nylons (don't ask), the villain eventually falls victim to one of the swamp's many treacherous patches of quicksand. This drippy backyard nonsense made the late-night cable TV rounds before sinking into much-deserved oblivion. ~ Cavett Binion, Rovi

An innocent young woman goes to apply for a domestic worker's job in Tijuana and ends up captured by vicious white slavers, the Alvarado sisters, who abuse her until her will is broken. They then force her to become a hooker. One day her old-flame sees her, but before he can help her, the sisters send her to a slave auction. A buyer comes to inspect her, and she begins vamping for him. Meanwhile, another woman sneaks up behind him and clonks him on the head with the bottle. They try to escape, but the other girl is killed and the heroine is tied up naked with barbed wire. Things look pretty bleak until the other women riot and she escapes to tell her sordid, sad tale to an understanding policeman. Lurid, fun for camp aficionados. ~ Sandra Brennan, Rovi

Falling in love with the girl, our hero decides to mend his ways, but is still obliged to kidnap the heroine before her father will consent to their marriage. There's a strong possibility that no one intended El Rebelde to be taken seriously. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
