Based on the graphic novel by Scott Mitchell Rosenberg, Cowboys & Aliens is set in 1800s Arizona, where the local cowboys, headed by gunslinger Jake Lonergan (Daniel Craig), and the indigenous Apache tribe have been feuding fiercely for quite a while. Their skirmish is interrupted, however, by the appearance of a spaceship, commanded by an alien creature that's bent on enslaving the human race. It's time for a six-gun shoot-out between these cattle rustlers and space invaders, and there might even be a temporary peace between the cowboys and Indians as they both take aim at these extraterrestrial uninvited guests. A young man discovers that his past misdeeds could come back to stain his future in this independent thriller. Paul (Josh Stewart) and Adrienne (Jamie-Lynn Sigler) are a young couple from Texas who are driving to California to attend the wedding of a college buddy. As they roll through the Mojave Desert late at night, Paul grows sleepy and Adrienne feels amorous, so they pull into an all-but-deserted roadside motel for the night. The couple gets into an argument, and after fitful sleep Paul slips out of their room to the motel's all-night diner. At the diner, Paul is approached by a mysterious stranger (Afemo Omilami) who seems to know a great deal about him. The man alludes to a dark secret in Paul's past that could destroy his relationship with Adrienne, and as the evening wears on the implications of Paul's past grow as evidence mounts that he and Adrienne have been there before. As Paul and Adrienne's evening goes haywire, their experiences are contrasted with the eccentric desk clerk, Frank (Chris Browning), and his unfaithful wife, Sandy (Angela Featherstone). John Ajvide Lindqvist's celebrated vampire novel makes the leap to the big screen once again with the second feature adaptation in so many years (Tomas Alfredson's critically acclaimed 2008 hit Let the Right One In, being the first). The sensitive target of vicious bullying at school, 12-year-old Owen (Kodi Smit-McPhee) is a social misfit from a broken home. Country music star Toby Keith writes and stars in this road movie comedy inspired by his chart-topping hit of the same name. Beer for My Horses opens to find small-town deputies and longtime buddies Rack (Keith) and Lonnie (Rodney Carrington) quietly enforcing the law in a small Southern town. Things are relatively quiet in their neck of the woods, so when a violent drug lord (Carlos Sanz) kidnaps Rack's girlfriend (Claire Forlani) in response to seeing his brother (Greg Serano) get arrested, Sheriff Landry (Tom Skerrit) implores them to sit tight and let the professionals handle the case. But Rack and Lonnie aren't about to let Rack's girlfriend suffer any harm at the hands of the notoriously vicious kingpin, and after enlisting the aid of taciturn, bow-and-arrow-toting fellow lawman Skunk Tarver (Ted Nugent), the trio sets out to rescue the girl and ensure that justice is served. When a model soldier who recently returned to the U.S. from the front lines of Iraq goes AWOL, his veteran father enlists the aid of a dedicated police detective in seeking out his son's true fate in director/screenwriter Paul Haggis' follow up to the Oscar-winning 2004 indie-hit Crash. Mike Deerfield (Jonathan Tucker) has served his country faithfully, and now the time has come for him to return home to the United States. Shortly after returning, however, Mike simply vanishes without a trace. Mike's father, Hank (Tommy Lee Jones), is a former MP from the Vietnam era, and quickly recruits Detective Emily Sanders (Charlize Theron) to assist him in his search for the missing soldier. While it remains to be seen whether Hank will ever find his missing son, he gets quickly enmeshed in a tangled web of intrigue, cover-ups, and murder, all related to the Iraqi conflict. The drama thus highlights the profoundly personal toll combat takes on soldiers, while striking at the very heart of the American experience in Iraq.
