Per its title, the Spanish-language docudrama Tragedia en Waco Texas recounts the grisly end of the Branch Davidian compound in April, 1993, in Waco, Texas. This gripping and disturbing reenactment, helmed by Mexican director Fernando Durán, dramatizes the events preceding, during, and following the Janet Reno-ordered FBI siege on the 'Mt. Carmel Center' headquarters of the religious cult masterminded by the ill-fated David Koresh - during which a fire reduced the entire operation to a pile of ash. Juan Benegas (Vincete Fernandez) and his brother Pablo (Andres Garcia) return home for the funeral of their domineering mother in this comedy. Along with their father Pedro (Lalo Gonzalez), the brothers declare themselves free of restrictions and vow to have a good time. The three go to town where they pretend to be strangers to fleece the locals in a card game. Their winnings attract the attention of Rossy (Olivia Collins), a pretty bank robber who covets the cash and not the crooks. This is a low-budget, low-brow comedy about people who have the misfortune of working in a hospital, though not as much misfortune as the patients. The doctors are universally incompetent, none of the nurses have been able to find a uniform that was not a tad too small, gangsters wander in and out of the premises, and misfits make up the corps of ambulance drivers, and sometimes, patients as well.
