This is the biopic of basketball star Pistol Pete Maravich, here played by Adam Guier. The film is for the most part an exercise in joie de vivre, until it ends as it tragically must, with the sudden and untimely death of Maravich. Writer Darrel Campbell and director Frank Schroeder perform miracles with their tiny budget. Though Pistol is comparatively little known, odds are it won't remain that way much longer. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

In this youthful drama, Tom, a 14- year-old who's parents have just divorced, is abruptly uprooted from his wealthy Chicago home and sent to the strange land of LA to live in the far-out beach bungalow of his aunt, an aging hippie still stuck in a by-gone era. He is unhappy with the new arrangement and finds his new bohemian lifestyle strange and the activities of his new peers, stupid. His life begins to change a bit when he befriends a young surfer named Fin. At first he thinks of the fun-loving Fin as a real dolt, but later he admits he was wrong. Like the Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn characters on which they are loosely based, the two new friends soon find themselves having a series of adventures, some of them dangerous; by the summer's end, Tom finds himself wiser, accustomed to California, and a lot more grown up. ~ Sandra Brennan, Rovi

The Naked Cage offers a glimpse of the stark realities of prison life while at the same time acknowledging the issue of prison corruption. Young and naïve Michelle (Shari Shattuck) has just been thrown in the slammer for a bank heist she definitely did not commit. The inmates warn her about the warden (Angel Tompkins), whose lesbian lifestyle is forced on inmates of her choosing. No one has to warn Michelle about the guard who rapes and kills the inmates, or about the woman who framed her and is now also in jail. These three threats to Michelle's inherent virtue are nothing she can fight off alone, and so some new characters step into the picture to help tip the scales. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, Rovi

Boss Hogg (Sorrell Booke) produces a document which "proves" that the Duke farm was deeded to his great-grandfather Thaddeus Hogg by Jesse's great-grandfather Jeremiah Duke way back in 1862. Investigating this surprising turn of events, the Dukes refer to a diary left behind by their great-grandma Jenny Duke (Doris Dowling). All this intrigue is merely an excuse to present an extended "Western" flashback spoof, in which the Dukes of Hazzard regulars all show up in cowboy guise as their 19th-century forebears--and run up against the Jesse James gang (somewhat off their own turf) in the bargain! ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

But of course, there's a catch: Unbeknownst to Daisy, Boss has mixed lye with the plane's chemicals so his crops will be ruined--whereupon he plans to sue the Dukes out of existence! ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
