Based on the song Mack the Knife, the very popular Rubén Blades song Pedro Navajas was the inspiration for a very popular Mexican movie taking the song name as its title, about a pimp and prostitute whose love/hate relationship resulted in their mutual destruction. In this sequel, their son develops into a defender of women. Raised in the U.S., the lad comes to Mexico when he hears his mother has died and attempts to look for his father. He is shocked to discover that he, too, has died. This is a low-budget adaptation of a well-publicized tragedy: the 1984 kidnapping and murder of Enrique Camarena, a U.S. narcotics agent. Mexican drug lord Rafael Caro-Quintero has been touted to be the gangster behind the killing. What makes this subpar drama with its stilted acting even less palatable is that it disclaims any relationship to real people, living or dead. In this version, when the U.S. agent (Armando Silvestre) tries to gather evidence against Caro-Quintero (Fernando Casanova) he is eventually captured, tortured, and murdered. Vincente Fernandez plays three brothers sired by the same father with three different mothers in this situation comedy. Rogerio is the bespectacled fool, Carmelo is the devil-may-care rogue, and Mariano is the virtuous rancher and father of 11 daughters. When the three meet for the first time to divide up their father's estate, the virtuous Mariano inherits the bar, Rogerio gets the ranch, and the roguish Carmello is made the owner of a charitable hospital.
