Actor Kim Milford first appeared on-stage at age 13 in the original staging of Hair. He later performed in the first concert tour of Jesus Christ Superstar and in the first production of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. First telecast September 18, 1986, Crime Story was the two-part pilot for the subsequent series which traced the longstanding relationship between Chicago cop Lt. Mike Torello (Dennis Farina) and mobster Ray Luca (Anthony Dennison). As head of the major crime unit, Torello is not above circumventing the rules to bring Luca's minions to justice. In the pilot, Luca deliberately provokes the lieutenant by hiring the son of one of Torello's close friends to pull off a series of robberies. The level of realism is heightened by the fact that star Dennis Farina is in fact a former Chicago police officer, while John Santucci, playing one of Luca's henchman, had once been a genuine criminal. Billy (Kim Milford) has the same problems that many teens have to endure. The Corvette Ken Dantley's (Mark Hamill) class has been restoring in their high-school shop class is nearly completely fixed up. One day, the students walk in and it is gone - apparently stolen. Ken is larking about in Las Vegas when he spies a car that looks suspiciously like the Corvette he knows so well. He begins looking for the car, but in the meantime Vanessa (Annie Potts), propositions him on the street. Intrigued, he follows the girl back to her van, which is equipped with a waterbed. She hopes to use the van as a travelling brothel, with herself as the bill of fare. Instead, she helps him look for the missing car, and as they search, the two of them fall in love. Though praised by critics, Mark Hamill's second starring feature did poorly at the box-office, and stalled his career. Older brother Chubby (Paul Sorvino) is a combative, booze-swilling, rough-edged construction worker, following in the footsteps of his brother Tommy (Tony Lo Bianco). Edie Sedgwick,1960s heroine of decadence, is exploited from beyond the grave in this clumsily pieced together film taken from two unfinished Sedgwick vehicles -- one by Chuck Wein from 1967 displaying Edie at her peak as a Warhol star, and the other from 1970 by David Weisman and John Palmer, made when Edie appeared decimated from drug and alcohol addiction. The film is arranged in the form of a cinema verité examination of her life and lifestyle: the woman lives in an empty, covered-over swimming pool, surrounded by posters of herself. She prances around topless for a good portion of the film, the better to display the results of a generous addition of silicone. The film shows her reminiscing about the days when she was a "star" and when her drug highs were mellower. Sedgwick died of a drug overdose in 1971. ~ Clarke Fountain, Rovi
