Robert Miano Movies
The earliest published credit for American actor Robert Miano was the role of "Modoc leader" in Bridger, a 1976 TV movie. Miano resurfaced in the late 1980s in supporting and bit roles in films -- most of these low-budget productions which generally went directly to video. 1987's Weeds, a good prison-rehab film starring Nick Nolte, was an exception to Miano's B-credits. Otherwise, Robert Miano could be seen in such fair to middling productions as Troma's Club Life (1986), China Girl (1987), Easy Wheels (1989), Ministry of Vengeance (1989) (as Ali Aboud), The Rain Killer (1990) and Diplomatic Immunity (1991). ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Two young hipsters go to Las Vegas to chase their dreams, but neither is happy with what they find in this dark comedy-drama. Lidda (Kirsten Dunst) is a young woman who hasn't heard in many years from her father Charlie (James Caan), a gambler working the casinos in Las Vegas. On her 18th birthday, Charlie sends her a check as a present, and Lidda, excited to finally hear from her dad again, heads out to Vegas to see him face to face. En route, Lidda picks up Colonel (Vincent Kartheiser), a convenience store clerk who fancies himself a cool hand with a deck of cards. After making Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982) and Clueless (1995), two of the definitive films about the joys and terrors of American high school, writer/director Amy Heckerling moves on to college with this bittersweet romantic comedy. Paul Tannek (Jason Biggs) is a bright but socially inept college freshman who has just arrived at NYU from the Midwest. Frumpy and studious, Paul has trouble meeting people, doesn't get along with his roommates, and most of his fellow students hardly acknowledge his existence. But Paul finds a soul mate in Dora Diamond (Mena Suvari), who has even more problems than he does: she's out of money, has nowhere to live, works a humiliating job as a waitress at a strip club, and has become involved with one of her professors, Edward Alcott (Greg Kinnear), whose callous treatment hardly boosts her shaky self-esteem. Dora gives Paul some advice on how to fit in with his roommates, and Paul lets her stay with him while she looks for work; when he becomes infatuated with her, he has to figure out how to win her away from Edward. The imaginary world of the world's most popular fantasy role-playing game comes to life in this special-effects laden adventure. In the Empire of Izmer, magic is the key to power in both the supernatural and political realms. The Mages are a sect who know the secrets of magic and use it to hold sway over the masses. The youthful Empress Savina (Thora Birch) wants to use her powers to bring justice and prosperity to all, but Profion (Jeremy Irons) is an evil Mage who wants to use his knowledge of magic to overthrow Savina and establish his own despotic rule. Through deceitful means, Profion wins away the special scepter that allows him to control the nation's Golden Dragons; Savina's only hope to recover the scepter and the rule of Izmer is to obtain the Rod of Savrille, a talisman that will give her powers over the Red Dragons, even more powerful than their golden counterparts. As Savina sets out to gain control of the Red Dragons, she gains a number of unlikely allies, including a pair of thieves, Snails (Marlon Wayans) and Ridely (Justin Whalin); a powerful dwarf, Elwood (Lee Arenberg); and Norda (Kristen Wilson), an elf with a gift for finding lost objects. This dramatic feature was written, directed, and co-produced by Native Americans. Native American writer Sherman Alexie scripted this adaptation of his 1993 short story collection The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven. Director Chris Eyre's previous short Someone Kept Saying Powwow is incorporated into the 88-minute feature. Developed at the Sundance Lab in 1995, the film was a winner of both the Audience Award and the Filmmakers' Trophy at the 1998 Sundance Film Festival. In 1976, an infant survives a fire that kills his parents. In a flash forward to the present day, the infant has grown up to become the skinny, nerdy adult Thomas (Evan Adams). At Idaho's desolate Coeur d'Alene Indian reservation, the overeager youth is mostly ignored by others, including stoic athletic Victor Joseph (Adam Beach), even though it was Victor's father, alcoholic Arnold Joseph (Gary Farmer), who saved the infant Thomas' life in the fire. A drunken Arnold later abandoned his family, and Victor hasn't seen his father in a decade. When Victor learns of Arnold's death in Phoenix, Thomas offers to pay for the trip to Phoenix if he can accompany Victor. They make an odd couple since Victor is embarrassed by Thomas' geekiness. In Phoenix, they find that Arnold lived in a small trailer in the desert, and they meet Arnold's friend Suzy Song (Irene Bedard), who provides disturbing truths about Arnold that impact on Victor. ~ Bhob Stewart, All Movie Guide

This drama about an undercover cop who learns the hidden dangers of working his way inside the mob was based on a true story. Joe Pistone (Johnny Depp) is an FBI agent who is given an assignment to infiltrate the Mafia; calling himself Donnie Brasco, he befriends Lefty Ruggiero (Al Pacino), a low-level mob hit man whose personal life is in tatters. Lefty's marriage is falling apart, his son is a junkie, and his health is failing, which only adds to his growing disillusionment about having spent 30 years with the Mafia (and killing 26 people) with little to show for it. But in Donnie, Lefty sees someone who can succeed where he failed; he takes the young man under his wing, and under Lefty's tutelage Donnie quickly rises through the ranks of organized crime; however, the longer he plays the role of the gangster, the more Joe Pistone finds himself becoming Donnie Brasco in his increasingly rare off hours; it drives a wedge between himself and his wife (Anne Heche) and children, and Joe realizes that a break in character among the hoodlums he's come to know could mean a death sentence for himself and his family. Just as importantly, Joe has come to regard Lefty as a close and trusted friend, and Joe realizes that when the day comes where he has to turn in his Mob associates, he'll be ending Lefty's life as surely as if he put a slug in his head himself. The supporting cast includes Michael Madsen as Sonny, Lefty's boss, and Bruno Kirby as Nicky, one of Sonny's henchmen. The heroes of the family adventure comedy 3 Ninjas return in this sequel (though not all of them are played by the same actors). Rocky (Sean Fox), Colt (Max Elliott Slade), and Tum Tum (Evan Bonifant) are three brothers whose Grandfather (Victor Wong) is a ninja master teaching them martial arts skills. The boys' Little League team has a big game coming up, but before they can hit the diamond, they have to help Grandpa return a sacred Ninja dagger to Japan. However, one of Grandpa's longtime enemies, now a wealthy and ruthless businessman, plans to steal the knife, and the boys are sent on a mission to Japan to rescue the valuable weapon. At first the tycoon sends his inept nephew to face off against the young Ninjas, but when that plan fails, Rocky, Colt, and Tum Tum are met by a team of trained warriors, who to their surprise are led by a teenage girl named Miyo (Caroline Junko King). Miyo soon strikes up a friendship with the brothers who are supposed to be her sworn enemies, and with her help they recover the knife and teach her a few things about baseball that come in handy when the big game finally rolls around. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

Plucky Daphne (Jane Leeves) has no qualms about going out on a date with ex-convict Jimmy (Tony Abatemarco). Her devil-may-care attitude is not shared by Frasier (Kelsey Grammer) and Niles (David Hyde Pierce), who vow to protect Daphne's honor if necessary. The fact that Frasier had not earlier been able to differentiate between the ex-con and an ex-cop does not diminish his diligence in "protecting" Daphne; and, of course, Niles' interest in the matter goes far beyond mere friendship. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
A ruthless drug lord must be stopped, pronto. Three able-bodied cops go undercover to bring the drug dealer to justice -- or, preferably, to kill him. Once in a while, the bad guys call a halt to the film's bloodshed to allow a sex scene to play itself out. Otherwise, this is essentially cable-TV stuff, blown up (sometimes literally) for the Big Screen. This sleazy little drama offers a grim slice from the lives of those who work in a seedy LA dime-a-dance ballroom. First there is ex-cop Miguelino who now makes a living finding ballrooms to buy while the drug-addicted dancer Sparkle gets drug money by informing for the mob. There is also the sharp-witted and freewheeling Mercedes and finally Billie, who puts up with the lasciviousness of her clients only during working hours. Billie is a dreamer and has fallen in love with two very different men. One is pizza delivery boy Bobby. The other is the wealthy Diamond Jim, a professional gambler who is unfortunately in deep trouble with local Vietnamese gangsters. When they suddenly show up to the gaudy dance hall to collect their debt from him, Billie gets caught in the middle and tragedy ensues. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide

This martial arts actioner stars former light heavyweight World Kickboxing Association champion Don Wilson as a lawyer who loses his wife and son at the murderous hands of drug dealers when the two accidentally find themselves in the midst of a drug deal. Decker, the lawyer, was also there, but is suffering from a form of amnesia and cannot recall the names or faces the police need to make arrests. Repeated trips to a therapist do not help, but then Decker runs across another drug deal in progress and kicks the crud out of the dealers. The violence triggers a dim memory and he discovers the more drug-dealers he beats up, the sharper his memory. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide

Tinged with morbid eroticism and drenched in gore, this low-budget vampire thriller stars Michelle Owens as Carris Blass, a sex-crimes detective who offers herself as bait to ensnare a savage sex killer stalking the streets and alleys of Los Angeles -- and discovers too late that the suspect (Gregory A. Geer) is actually a powerful vampire who sexually molests his victims. Once bitten, Blass undergoes a dramatic transformation into femme fatale, along with the usual vampire traits, such as an extreme aversion to sunlight. Despite the doubts of her cynical husband (Michael McMillen), she is determined to bring down her undead foe before her transformation becomes complete. Despite the unconventional twist of depicting the vampire as more of a deranged, rape-happy psychopath than an instinctive predator, there is little to distinguish this blood-soaked outing from the usual horror-exploitation fare. ~ Cavett Binion, All Movie Guide

The knights must rely upon a secret storehouse, containing advanced technology from the lost city of Atlantis. Phillip Noyce directed Joe Eszterhas's adaptation of Ira Levin's novel about voyeurism, starring Sharon Stone as Carly Norris, a book editor on the rebound from an emotionless seven-year marriage. Carly decides that a change of location will help her in the healing process, so she moves into a sleek Manhattan high-rise. In her new apartment, she meets a collection of curious neighbors --Vida (Polly Walker), who snorts cocaine along with ingesting all the dark secrets of the building and its tenants; Jack Landsford (Tom Berenger), a successful writer who also wants to also be successful with Carly; and Zeke Hawkins (William Baldwin), Carly's new landlord. Carly is attracted to Zeke, but she sees that he is hiding something from her. Unbeknownst to Carly, Zeke, an obsessive voyeur, watches his tenants from a bank of television screens at his headquarters. But when Carly discovers Zeke's voyeurism, she herself becomes obsessed with the daily lives of her neighbors. ~ Paul Brenner, All Movie Guide
