A woman looks for both revenge and redemption after spending 13 years in prison in this offbeat thriller from South Korea. Lee Geum-ja (Lee Yeong-ae) was in her early twenties when she was found guilty of kidnapping and killing a young boy, and though she confessed to the crime under duress, while behind bars she dreamed of one day being able to clear her name -- and even the score with the people who railroaded her, including the police officer who brought her in (Nam Il-woo) and Mr. Baek (Choi Min-Sik), a teacher who wronged her in a number of ways. Lee Geun-ja teams up with a number of friends she made during her time in lock-up, including Woo So-yeong (Kim Bu-seon), a thief with a gunsmith for a husband; Oh Su-heui (Ra Mi-ran), who was saved from assault at the hands fellow inmates by Lee; and Preacher Jeon (Kim Byeong-ok), an eccentric man of the cloth who was struck by her gentle nature in jail. As Preacher Jeon helps Lee seek salvation for all she had to do while in prison, her other friends stand by her side as she gets even with her rivals and searches for the daughter she was forced to leave behind when she was convicted. Kim Yong-gyun's picture The Red Shoes is a South Korean horror opus. The story unravels in Seoul, where Sun Jae (Kim Hye Soo) discovers her husband's infidelity and leaves him, moving into an ancient, semi-dilapidated apartment house with her daughter, Tae Soo. She discovers a strange pair of red shoes on the subway and carts them home with her, sans realizing that the shoes carry a demonic curse and threaten to destroy the life of whoever holds them. As supernatural terrors hit the apartment and otherworldly visions fill Sun Jae's mind (including a dream sequence where drops of blood snow down from the sky), the shoes unleash the buried malevolent thoughts and desires from everyone surrounding Sun Jae, propelling the individuals toward horrible deaths. Sun Jae and her boyfriend Cheol (Kim Seong-Su) then attempt to determine the origin of the shoes and end the death spell - before Sun Jae's life is extinguished. ~ Nathan Southern, Rovi

A call girl changes her life for love, only to discover she did so too late in this drama from South Korean writer and director Park Jin-pyo. Eun-ha (Jeon Do-yeon) grew up in a farming community and came to the big city to make something of herself. Sadly, her dreams have led her to a coffee bar that's a front for a prostitution ring, where she turns tricks under the guise of making deliveries. Seok-jung (Hwang Jeong-min) is a sweet but slightly dim guy who falls in love with Eun-ha, not realizing what she does for a living. Seok-jung follows Eun-ha everywhere she goes, and while she seems him as an easy mark at first, in time she grows tired of his wide-eyed attentions. However, when a beating from a client puts Eun-ha in the hospital, Seok-jung loyally stays by her side; touched by his devotion, Eun-ha decides to give up prostitution and wed Seok-jung. At first Eun-ha is perfectly happy to look after Seok-jung and be a housewife, but when a former client pays her a visit, Eun-ha makes a shocking discovery -- she's HIV Positive, and she's probably passed the virus on to her husband. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi
