The presence of an attractive single woman adds to the tension between several unhappily married couples in this independent drama. Alex (Lee Tergesen) and Alice (Melanie Lynskey) are a newly married couple in their mid-thirties who have invited some friends to a cottage in upstate New York to celebrate New Year's Eve. Alex isn't feeling especially celebratory, as his career as a writer has hit a skid and he's feeling uneasy about his relationship with Alice, and his misgivings grow as he spends time with Don (Dominic Fumusa) and Lynn (Jessica Hecht). Don and Lynn are also married, and Lynn makes no secret of her low regard for Don, whose spirit seems to have been crushed by her incessant demands. A third couple attending the party, Eve (Dagmara Dominczyk) and Steven (Corey Stoll), are also experiencing some trouble; Eve is expecting a baby, but also has reason to believe Steven is cheating on her. Eve and Steven have brought a friend along for the party, Helena (Gillian Jacobs), an attractive model younger than the rest of the guests. Nick (Paul Fitzgerald), the only single man in attendance, is clearly attracted to Helena, but Alex, who met her several months before, is also infatuated with her, adding to the discord between himself and Alice. Two men from wildly different stations in life find their paths crossing in unexpected ways in this independent drama written and directed by actor Paul Fitzgerald. Peter Miles (Fitzgerald) is the district attorney in a small Southern town, where he's developed a reputation as a hard-liner against crime, a proudly conservative Christian, and a friend of fellow Republicans. Just as Miles is preparing to announce his candidacy for a Senate seat, a name from his past reappears -- Ronald Bradler (Russell Hornsby). Bradler is an African-American ex-con who was sent to death row on dubious evidence in a case prosecuted by Miles; a last-minute pardon by the governor after a new review of the evidence saved his life, but while Bradler is now a free man, he's still burdened by his past. Bradler finds it all but impossible to get a job or lead a quiet life after he returns to society, but soon Miles gets a taste of the same treatment when some unflattering secrets from his past become public. A man wages a one-man war against corrupt real-estate developers in this independent comedy drama. Nat Banks (Roger Rees) is a genially eccentric gentleman farmer who minds a Virginia estate that has belonged to his family for generations. Nat is not especially good at managing his money and has fallen deep in debt, so when a pair of real-estate men from Washington, D.C., make an offer for the place, Nat agrees under the condition that the house will be maintained as it is and he will be allowed to stay there for the rest of his life. However, Nat soon finds the businessmen are not good to their word, and he's to be moved out of his home into a nearby rental house. Refusing to leave his land, Nat moves into a cave near the creek that runs near the estate, and when the new owners go South for the winter, Nat breaks into his former home and hatches a plan to win back his estate with the help of some friends.
