Producer Eddie Pola (a well-known British master of ceremonies) hopes to stir up publicity by staging an outdoor radio broadcast. The inclement British weather is only one problem: Pola must also contend with waspish critic Leslie Perrins, who does his best to sabotage the show. That's the plot, take it or leave it. Essentially, Sunshine Ahead is an excuse to showcase several top radio personalities, including bandleader Jack Payne, The Two Leslies, Ruth Naylor (performing the Jewel song from Faust) and Troise and His Mandoliers. This standard quota quickie was distributed throughout the British Empire by Hollywood's Universal Pictures. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

A bone-chiller that still manages to inject humor, this movie was based on an actual event and even spawned Stephen Sondheim's hit play "Sweeney Todd" in 1978. Slaughter portrays a mad barber who has a deal with a baker to provide fillings for his meat pies. Birds of a Feather was based on A Rift in the Loot, a play by George Foster. British music-hall great George Robey stars as a "nouveau riche" sausage manufacturer. Hoping to break into society, Robey moves himself and his loved ones into the castle of a noble but impecunious family. So as to avoid the scandal of their poverty, the castle's real owners pose as servants. It isn't long before the lowbrows and highbrows discover that they're really not all that different underneath, especially when Robey's daughter and the aristocrats' son fall in love. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

No Limit is purely and simply a vehicle for chipmunk-cheeked British comic George Formby. He plays a provincial auto mechanic who dreams of the Main Chance. He gets it when he decides to soup up an old dirt-bike and enter the vehicle in an upcoming championship race. The climactic road sequences were picturesquely filmed on the Isle of Man. Supporting George is Florence Desmond, one of the foremost celebrity impressionists of her time. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

David Gordon runs a bookshop that draws its customers primarily from the nearby college. One of these patrons is the attractive Marian, who has caught David's eye and married him. Bob, David's best friend, has never met Marian, but while talking to her on the phone one day confides that he is lonely and that he, too, wants to fall in love and get married. Unfortunately, there isn't a girl in his life and he doesn't know how to go about getting one. Marian responds that the best way is simply to pick out the first girl in a crowd that attracts him, follow her and convince her to marry him. Bob takes this advice to heart; unfortunately, the girl that he picks coincidentally turns out to be Marian. Misunderstandings ensue, with Bob eventually landing in jail -- and soon finding he's not alone. Seventeen-year-old Googie Withers was picked from the crowd of extras to play a featured part after the original actress quit, thereby beginning a film career that lasted six decades. ~ Craig Butler, Rovi
