Two neo-Nazi recruits enter into a homosexual relationship that threatens to be their undoing when they are forced to make a decision that will affect the rest of their lives. Danish serviceman Lars (Thure Lindhardt) is about to be promoted to sergeant when vicious rumors force him to turn his back on the military. Subsequently moving back home with his conservative parents, Lars finds their repeated attempts to cover up the incident repellant, and soon falls in with a local group of racist radicals fronted by the aptly nicknamed Fatso (Nicolas Bro). Fueled by his frustration with both the military and his parents, Lars is eventually seduced into the group, quickly ascending to "A" rank despite the repeated objections of senior member Jimmy (David Dencik), who believes that his devoted younger brother should have been honored with that distinction instead. Later going to live in a secluded summer cottage owned by the board chairman, Lars slowly starts to form a connection with Jimmy, who has been assigned the task of renovating the remote vacation home. Their defenses crumbling, the two men eventually become lovers. Emotionally devastated after accidentally causing the death of an obnoxious drunk, an unscrupulous real estate agent wrestles with the remorse of killing a beloved father and husband as his life begins to unravel to reveal an entire history of regret. Real estate agent Ulrick Nymann (Lars Brygmann) isn't known for his honesty, though his lack of morals have no doubt played a huge part in his success. One night, while celebrating a recent condo sale in a flashy upscale nightclub, Ulrick convinces his friends to duck out in favor of a quiet dive bar. Once there, the contemptuous Ulrick clashes with a loud mouth drunk, with the war of works quickly turning physical. When the drunk suffers a fatal fall, Ulrick is sent to the slammer overnight. Quickly released thanks to the efforts of his lawyer brother (Nicolas Bro) and their powerful but estranged father (Morten Grunwald), Ulrick returns to his materialistic wife Camilla (Anne Sophie Byder) and goes back to work for his unethical boss. The problem is, the death seems to have a greater impact on Ulrick than anyone, including himself, expected. In the following weeks Ulrick attempts to make amends for his transgression by getting closer with the man's grieving family. When Hans runs into old school friend Mette (Ane Dahl Torp), he determines to go undercover in his old pal's nightclub in order to get a better feel for the local drug trade. Upon learning that Matte's boyfriend Marco (Ahmed Zeyan) is a local drug transporter and her father Frank (Bjorn Floberg) is pulling the strings from behind the scenes, dogged cop Hans determines to single-handedly bring the operation crumbling down. With the bleak comedic drama Dark Horse, Icelandic director Dagur Kári reworks several thematic and topical elements from his prior film, Nói Albinói. He also crafts a feature which brings together two trends of Scandinavian cinema in the early 2000s: matter-of- fact examinations of ordinary, working class Scandinavian folks, with intersecting lives and stories, shot in stark black-and-white (typified by films such as Ragnar Bragasson's Born), and the low-key, whimsical, offbeat humor of northern European directors such as Aki Kaurismaki.Dark Horse opens in Copenhagen, where Daniel, a twentysomething young man, makes a paltry living as a graffiti painter, accepting money from Danish residents to create personalized valentines on the sides of buildings. Unable to collect enough from this trade to pay his rent, he is evicted and must approach his father for lodging, but the father refuses, forcing Daniel to sleep in his car. Daniel's friend Roger (nicknamed "Grandpa") works at a local medical clinic that is conducting sleep experiments on volunteers, including a judge; in Roger's off time, he trains as a football referee. Roger confides in Daniel about his discovery of a former model Franc, who works at a local bakery; Daniel and Franc inevitably then become involved, to Roger's consternation, and Roger plots to intervene by attempting to win Franc for himself. Drawing inspiration from famed Russian filmmaker Andrei Tarkovsky's 1979 sci-fi classic Stalker, director/co-screenwriter Christoffer Boe's heady tale of love and memory follows an acclaimed Danish pianist as he sets out to a mysterious area known only as "The Zone" in hopes of reclaiming his memories and reconnecting with his past. Zetterstrom (Ulrich Thomsen) is a pianist who has sacrificed human emotion in order to achieve perfection. Though many years have passed since Zetterstrom left his native Copenhagen to live in New York, he is now drawn back to his birthplace in order to take part in a gala concert. Upon arriving in Copenhagen, Zetterstrom is contacted by a messenger from an off-limits area of the city known only as "The Zone" and offered an opportunity to remember his long forgotten love for the beautiful Andrea (Helena Christensen). Danish filmmaker Christoffer Boe makes his feature debut with the psychological romantic drama Reconstruction. Set in Copenhagen during a 24-hour period, narrator August (Krister Henriksson) works on his novel while his wife, Aimee (Maria Bonnevie), has a one-night stand with photographer Alex (Nikolaj Lie Kaas). The next morning, Alex appears to have lost touch with his surroundings as his friends, family, and girlfriend Simone (also played by Bonnevie) treat him like a stranger.
