Paul (David Rees Snell) and Bryn Shaw (Teri Polo) attempt to recover from the pain of losing their young son by moving in to a new apartment, only to encounter the ghost of another child who was taken before his time, and who may hold the key to solving a supernatural mystery. Shortly after moving into the new tenement building, Bryn catches a glimpse of a diminutive specter floating through the hallways. After contacting a local professor and a grizzled cop and learning about the boy's grim fate, Bryn attempts to use the spirit to deliver a message to her son on the other side. The police chief has decided to shelve the seizure policy, and Monica (Glenn Close) goes to Aceveda (Benito Martinez) to try to work out a deal to save it. Vic (Michael Chiklis) and his team are staking out Tretiak (Michael Khmurov), the Russian mobster who allegedly ordered the two cops killed. They find out that he's getting shipments of C4 sent to a local warehouse, and make a bust. They try to scare one of Tretiak's underlings by wiring Tretiak to a load of explosives, but things go horribly awry. They do learn, however, that another man was with the two Nigerians when they murdered the cops. A sting involving Taylor (RonReaco Lee) nabs the third man, Jason Porter (La Monde Byrd), a college student who has no criminal record. His involvement becomes a bit more understandable when Vic learns that he's Antwon's (Anthony Anderson) stepbrother. Dutch (Jay Karnes) and Claudette (CCH Pounder) investigate a homicide involving Bumper (Faleolo Alailima), a disabled man. Joanna Faulks (Rebecca Pidgeon) returns to The Barn looking for Dutch. She's being harassed and threatened because her husband was the "Cuddler Rapist," and she asks Dutch to help her get a carry permit for her gun. Dutch angrily confronts Billings (David Marciano) about the pranks that are being played on him by his fellow officers. Aceveda gets a subpoena to testify in Juan Lozano's (Kurt Caceres) appeal. Juan threatens to testify that he sexually assaulted Aceveda if Aceveda doesn't find a way to spring him. Aceveda turns to an unlikely ally for help in resolving the matter. ~ Josh Ralske, Rovi

Army (Michael Pena) and Shane (Walton Goggins) are practicing to beat the lie-detector test that Monica (Glenn Close) is making them take, but Army is very nervous about it. At a meeting with community leaders, Assistant Chief Phillips (Nigel Gibbs) lets Monica know that the seizure policy is being reevaluated. She goes to Aceveda (Benito Martinez), blaming him. Aceveda offers to help her if she'll agree to a few modifications, but she refuses, telling Phillips that she'll quit if the program is stopped. Antwon's arrest has created a power vacuum among the One-Niners, and Vic (Michael Chiklis) uses that to his advantage, playing Halpern (Laurence Mason) and Weed (Petey Pablo) against each other to get information about the cop killings. This leads him to a pair of Nigerian suspects, and, surprisingly, to a Russian mobster with no clear ties to Antwon. Dutch (Jay Karnes) and Claudette (CCH Pounder) investigate a drive-by shooting at a local car wash, and find out that Billings (David Marciano) witnessed the crime, but did nothing to stop it, and reported it anonymously. Cal (Joe Renteria), an old friend of Vic's (Michael Chiklis) who owns a restaurant, asks Vic to help him straighten out one of his employees, Cyril (Peter Pasco), who has a drug problem and has apparently disappeared. Vic goes out of his way to help Cal, which has negative repercussions when Cyril's problems turn out to be more serious, and he's involved in a shoot-out while robbing a store. Ben Gilroy (John Diehl, uncredited) turns up dead after apparently living a very rough life in Mexico. Aceveda (Benito Martinez) decides to shut down the AGC sting operation, because Louis (Dominic Hoffman) betrayed them, opening up a new company with seed money from the big clients he warned about the sting. Monica (Glenn Close) decides to offer Louis a deal to set up a new operation at the new company, angering Aceveda, who has not officially stepped down yet. Monica also gets the men's room fixed, and tells Aceveda that she plans to use a new forfeiture plan to seize criminals' assets and auction them off to pay for The Barn's upkeep and donate some cash to local social programs. Shane (Walton Goggins) has been shaking down the pimps and dealers on his beat, and is breaking in a new partner, Armando (Michael Pena of Crash), an Iraq War veteran. Vic confronts Shane about his possible connection to Antwon (Anthony Anderson), which Shane denies. But Vic still has his suspicions. Corrine (Cathy Cahlin Ryan) and Vic consider joining a class-action suit against a vaccine company. Dutch (Jay Karnes) and Claudette (CCH Pounder) bring in a prostitute (Donna Cooper) who's been raped, and Aceveda, still struggling with his own personal trauma, takes a special interest in the case. As the fourth-season finale of The Shield begins, everyone at The Barn is angry that Antwon (Anthony Anderson) got a deal from the DEA and is not going to be charged for the murder of two cops. Monica (Glenn Close) suggests to Vic (Michael Chiklis) and Shane (Walton Goggins) that they find a way to undermine the deal. Vic learns that Aceveda (Benito Martinez) visited both Juan Lozano and Antwon in prison, shortly before Juan was murdered. Suspecting that Aceveda might have had something to do with Juan's death, Vic confronts him, suggesting he find a connection between Juan and Antwon, because if Antwon murdered Juan after cutting the deal with the DEA, he could lose his immunity. Monica learns that Antwon is giving the DEA information about Bonilla (Al Cruz), a Salvadoran drug kingpin, so the team decides to try to bust him first, targeting gang leader Gusano (Pete Vasquez) to get information about him. Dutch (Jay Karnes) and Claudette (CCH Pounder) investigate a murder at a quinceañera. Aceveda (Benito Martinez) arranges for Monica (Glenn Close) to meet with community leaders to sell her forfeiture program. Antwon (Anthony Anderson) is at the meeting and attacks the program as racist. Julien (Michael Jace), speaking as a former resident of Farmington, defends it, but Aceveda sandbags Monica by coming out against the seizures. Later, Julien begins to have his own doubts about the fairness of the program. Claudette (CCH Pounder) finds out about Dutch's (Jay Karnes) deal with the DA's office, and gets very angry about it, even though the detectives are given a murder case. She attacks Monica because a low-level pot dealer's property was seized. Monica reprimands her, but later complains to ADA Encardi (Anna Maria Horsford) about the way her detectives were used. Lem (Kenny Johnson) wants to come back to The Barn, but Vic (Michael Chiklis) is worried about bringing him back because Lem and Shane (Walton Goggins) are on the outs, and Vic wants to keep Shane close. A drug counselor is murdered by a heroin dealer. Lem brings in Angie (Bree'Anna Banks), a juvenile whose addict mother, Hoda (Fylicia King), had a connection to the victim. This leads to Vic and his people finding a massive cache of heroin and weapons, which, unfortunately for Shane and Army (Michael Pena), turns out to be the property of Antwon. Aceveda (Benito Martinez) starts a political battle against Monica (Glenn Close) over her department's property seizures. He also turns to a call girl, Sara (Abby Brammell), to help him work through his ongoing trauma over being sexually assaulted. Danny (Catherine Dent) and Julien (Michael Jace) pick up a graffiti artist (Vanetta Smith) who might be involved in fomenting a gang war. ADA Encardi (Anna Maria Horsford) tells Dutch (Jay Karnes) that the DA's office wants a "favor" in exchange for getting him and Claudette (CCH Pounder) back in their good graces. They're told to bust a drug dealer (Mel Winkler), who turns out to be very small-time, arousing Claudette's suspicions. A rapist escapes from the county courthouse and attacks another victim. Vic turns to Suvuto (Noel Guglielmi), a gang leader, for help in capturing the rapist, with decidedly mixed results. Shane (Walton Goggins) and Army (Michael Pena) make a power play, beating up on Antwon's (Anthony Anderson) lieutenant Halpern (Laurence Mason) when the man himself fails to show up at a meeting. Vic continues to go after Antwon, this time busting one of his many illegitimate children, Donald III (Edward Hendershott), on a minor charge. Vic also feeds Shane some information about one of Antwon's operations to see if the information will get back to Antwon. Shane (Walton Goggins) has told Vic (Michael Chiklis) everything about his dealings with Antwon (Anthony Anderson), but Lem (Kenny Johnson) still doesn't trust Shane or Army (Michael Pena). Vic decides to help Shane retrieve Angie's body, so Antwon won't have power over him, but when they look where Halpern (Laurence Mason) told them to, the body isn't there. Two patrolmen, Scooby (Robert Wu) and Carl (Jarvis W. George), go missing after responding to a domestic dispute call. Monica (Glenn Close) makes Dutch (Jay Karnes) and Claudette (CCH Pounder) the primaries on the case, but their only witness is Roger (Joel Stoffer), a mentally unstable homeless man. Aceveda (Benito Martinez) asks to take an active role in the case, and goes out on patrol with Danny (Catherine Dent), putting himself in harm's way. The bodies of the two officers are left in a house that the department has seized for the cops to find. Dutch is eventually able to locate the crime scene and a piece of jewelry apparently left behind by one of the killers. Vic's investigation into Antwon's involvement leads to nothing about the murdered cops, but he does get new information about the location of Angie's body. Lem finds out that Antwon is flying back to L.A. from Las Vegas, and Vic makes plans to intercept him before Monica can have him picked up for questioning. ~ Josh Ralske, Rovi

Tommy (Matt Gerald), Julien's (Michael Jace) old partner, gets word that his ex-wife and son have been found murdered in their home. A detective from Wilshire division, where the crime was committed, is questioning Tommy as though he were a suspect. This enrages Vic (Michael Chiklis), who sees it as a territorial pissing match between the Wilshire captain and Aceveda (Benito Martinez), so Vic gets Julien and Danny (Catherine Dent) to join him in going "off the grid" to find the killer. This leads to some complications, as they find out that Tommy may actually have been involved in the deaths. Danny threatens to report them to Aceveda when Vic's tactics go too far. Vic also learns that Corrine (Cathy Cahlin Ryan) has more than a professional relationship with Matthew's (Joel Rosenthal) therapist, Owen (Vincent Angell). Aceveda orders Dutch (Jay Karnes) to give a press conference about the serial rapists, despite his protestations. Forced to talk to the press without having made much headway in the case, Dutch decides to bait the rapist by questioning his virility. It seems to work, as the criminal contacts a reporter, offering to talk with Dutch face to face, on camera. Aceveda gets an unhappy visit from his wife, Aurora (Camilia Sanes), who, unaware that he's recently been sexually assaulted, wonders why he hasn't come home for a few days. The Strike Team and the Decoy Squad team up again, this time to catch local thugs who have been assaulting gay hustlers. When Shane (Walton Goggins) asks why he's been singled out to go undercover as a decoy, Trish (Nicki Micheaux) tells him that none of the other cops "look gay enough." ~ Josh Ralske, Rovi

After his car accident, precipitated by his violent altercation with Shane (Walton Goggins) and Mara (Michele Hicks), Tavon (Brian J. White) is in the hospital with possible traumatic brain damage. Vic (Michael Chiklis) visits Shane at home to find out where he was last night, and sees through the couple's shaky cover story. Claudette (CCH Pounder) and Vic clash over his team's latest assignment, but it leads him to a bigger case involving a Byz Latz member sneaking contraband into Chino. Vic finds out that Aceveda (Benito Martinez) and a federal agent are interrogating his smuggling suspect, Aranis (Manuel G. Jimenez), about some marked bills in the money collected in the bust, and realizes that some of the cash from the "Money Train" robbery is marked. So while Aceveda and the fed try to track down the rest of the Byz Latz money, Vic is racing against them to make sure they don't find it. Vic's moves inadvertently lead to Aceveda having an ugly run-in with a couple of gang members. Julien (Michael Jace) and Danny (Catherine Dent) try to protect a woman who's being stalked by her ex-boyfriend. The president's in town, so The Barn is operating with a skeleton crew, which gives Vic (Michael Chiklis) and the Strike Team a window of opportunity. They somehow have to get the documents denoting the marked bills from the "Money Train" heist, which Aceveda (Benito Martinez) got from the treasury department, out of Aceveda's safe. Vic also has to deal with the mother of a teenaged girl who disappeared. The mom says a local street singer has written a narcocorrido detailing the girl's murder and burial. When Vic goes to search for the girl's body, he finds eight other corpses, all young illegals who died from exposure to methane. Vic also arranges an assignation with Lauren (Natalie Zea) of the canine unit, despite the fact that she's involved in a relationship. Aceveda gets rough with a suspect, and confides in a friend about his traumatic recent encounter with the two gang members. ~ Josh Ralske, Rovi

Unaware that some of the "Money Train" cash has been marked by the feds, Vic (Michael Chiklis) decides to use some of it for a sting operation to track down the stolen military weaponry. Vic and Shane (Walton Goggins) pose as white supremacists to buy the guns, but things go wrong when Garza (Guillermo Diaz) the Byz Latz gang leader who's supposed to sell them the guns, double-crosses and outflanks them, making off with their cash. The Strike Team has to scramble to get the cash back and find the weapons in order to avert a gang war, all without letting team member Tavon (Brian J. White), who wasn't in on the "Money Train" heist, find out what they're up to. Garza is also apparently involved in a murder case that Dutch (Jay Karnes) and Claudette (CCH Pounder) are investigating. It's an apparent gang hit, but the only witness, Esteban (Jeremy Ray Valdez), is a bookish young man, a friend of the victim who claims he didn't see anything. Vic tries to use Diagur (Frankie Rodriguez), Garza's number two man, to take down Garza. Claudette goes over Aceveda's (Benito Martinez) head in an effort to get her promotion. Julien (Michael Jace) and his partner, Tommy (Matt Gerald), face a charge of excessive force, and Danny (Catherine Dent) returns to work. ~ Josh Ralske, Rovi

Two men are found executed with their feet cut off, and it's soon determined that they're members of the Armenian mob. While Dutch (Jay Karnes) investigates the case, Vic (Michael Chiklis) and his Strike Team realize that the Armenians think the "Money Train" robbery (from season two) was an inside job. A routine drug bust leads to a cache of ammo, which Vic discovers intended for a large number of MP-5 weapons that were stolen from the military. Vic works his contacts in the Byz Latz and the One-Niners in an effort to track down the guns before they are used in a potential gang war. Claudette (CCH Pounder) clashes with Aceveda (Benito Martinez) when he delays turning control of The Barn over to her. Corrine (Cathy Cahlin Ryan) hires Owen (Vincent Angell) to tutor Matthew (Joel Rosenthal) and informs Vic that she is going back to work to help pay for it. Vic also argues with Shane (Walton Goggins), who wants to buy a car for his new girlfriend, Mara (Michele Hicks). Danny (Catherine Dent), working as a school security guard while she appeals her firing, learns that Aceveda can get her back on the force if she'll agree to keep an eye on her fellow officers for him. White) wants to transfer out of the Strike Team, but at Vic's behest, he agrees to try to make peace with Shane. Danny (Catherine Dent) gets a domestic disturbance call that brings her to Julien's (Michael Jace) house. Dutch (Jay Karnes) tries a new interrogation tactic on an attempted murder suspect. When it backfires, he's forced to call upon the harried Claudette (CCH Pounder) for help. Aceveda (Benito Martinez) forces Danny and Julien to partner up again. Claudette assigns both the Strike Team and the Decoy Squad to a high-profile robbery/carjacking case in which a prominent homeless advocate was killed. Vic and Waylon (Gareth Williams), the leader of the Decoy Squad, decide to compete to solve the case, and make a friendly wager. Aceveda (Benito Martinez) uses his political clout to bring in the Decoy Squad, an elite unit from another division. To placate the disgruntled Claudette (CCH Pounder), he puts her in charge of both the Decoy Squad and the Strike Team. Vic (Michael Chiklis) is none too happy about sharing his space with another group, particularly while the Strike Team is trying to figure out what to do about the marked money they stole. The two groups team up in a prostitution sting, which nets a local politician, causing some political friction for Aceveda (Benito Martinez). Farrah (Mageina Tovah), a prostitute, recognizes Vic from his work with his murdered C.I., Connie, and offers to help him bring down her pimp, Smooth (Faruq Tuaheed), who recently kicked her to the curb. Vic wants nothing to do with her, but Claudette orders him to work the case. Dutch (Jay Karnes) is called in on a rape case in which the victim was an elderly woman. He brings in Paul Fets (Brent Sexton), a local registered sex offender, for an interrogation. Matthew (Joel Rosenthal) sets fire to the Mackeys' kitchen, forcing the family to move in with Vic (Michael Chiklis), and making Corrine (Cathy Cahlin Ryan) consider the possibility of putting her son in some type of home. Danny (Catherine Dent) and Julien (Michael Jace) turn again to Taylor (RonReaco Lee) for help in tracking down some stolen booze. Tavon (Brian J. White) regains consciousness, and remembers getting into a fight with Shane (Walton Goggins). O'Brien (Jim Budig) disappears after being targeted by the Armenians, as a few more footless bodies turn up. Aceveda (Benito Martinez) learns that a mole within the treasury department has been feeding information to the Armenians, as they next target the Byz Latz, getting that much closer to Vic and his crew. Vic's slip of the tongue arouses Dutch's (Jay Karnes) suspicion that the Strike Team has some nefarious connection to the missing Armenian loot. The AGC surveillance uncovers a connection between a local gang, the Spook Street Souljahs, and the notorious Horde. Claudette (CCH Pounder) joins the Decoy Squad in an undercover operation to bust a kiddie porn purveyor and learn more about the gangs' planned collaboration. ~ Josh Ralske, Rovi

Corrine (Cathy Cahlin Ryan) is attacked at the hospital by an Asian man (Xuyen Tu Valdivia) she's trying to patch up. Vic (Michael Chiklis) argues with Owen (Vincent Angell) over whether or not she should go to the station and file a report. Vic plans to hunt down the perp regardless. Called away on other police business, he asks Julien (Michael Jace) to alert him when they catch the guy. Vic learns that the feds have traced some of the marked bills from the "Money Train" job to a bank in Indio. A talented young black graffiti artist is found lynched, and despite the fact that the victim had no gang affiliation, gang involvement is suspected. When a local Hispanic priest affiliated with Los Profetas is stabbed to death soon afterward, with the signature of the One-Niners, Aceveda (Benito Martinez) fears, rightly, that a gang war could erupt at any moment, and puts all of his available manpower on the case. Claudette (CCH Pounder) comes into conflict with Waylon (Gareth Williams) again over an assignment, and Vic continues to play both sides against the middle, offering to help Waylon get his Decoy Squad transferred out of the division, while appearing to support Claudette. When Vic puts his trust in the wrong gang leader, he tells Aceveda that it's because he's no longer in touch with the streets, and he needs to have the Strike Team turned loose again. Aceveda finally tells Aurora (Camilia Sanes) that he was sexually assaulted, and she is not as understanding as one might hope. Shane (Walton Goggins) now knows that Mara (Michele Hicks) stole the 7,000 dollars from the "Money Train" stash to send to her mother, Stella (DeLane Matthews), in Indio. At first, he tries to keep the information under wraps, and he and Mara come up with a cover story in hopes of keeping Stella quiet, but when Stella starts demanding more money, and gets a message to contact the Treasury Department, he tells the rest of the Strike Team. Lem (Kenny Johnson) points out that Mara would rat out the rest of the team to save Shane. Vic (Michael Chiklis) tries to keep everyone working together. The team finds a patsy (Jim Budig) to take the rest of the marked money. Aceveda (Benito Martinez) has been tracking Juan (Kurt Caceres), the Byz Latz gang member who assaulted him, and when Juan commits a convenience-store robbery, Aceveda is there to stop it, shooting one of his accomplices, while Juan escapes. The local media hail the captain as a hero. He assigns the Strike Team to help him find Juan. Vic realizes that Aceveda had been following Juan, and suspecting that it might have something to do with the stolen loot, he warns Byz Latz leader Diagur (Frankie Rodriguez) to get Juan out of the country. Dutch (Jay Karnes) and Claudette (CCH Pounder) use parking tickets to find a suspect in the "cuddler rapist" case, and interrogate the man's wife (Rebecca Pidgeon), leading to a huge break in the case. ~ Josh Ralske, Rovi

The Strike Team has been turned loose again, and immediately pays dividends. Shane (Walton Goggins) gets shot at while the team tries to bust a gang member, but it leads them to a massive money-laundering operation. Vic (Michael Chiklis) convinces Aceveda (Benito Martinez) to let Danny (Catherine Dent) go undercover to help the team nab Louis (Dominic Hoffman), the head of the operation. Shane continues to defend Mara (Michele Hicks) despite all the trouble her theft has caused. Vic tells him, "She's gonna be gone in a couple of months." Vic has another tryst with Lauren (Natalie Zea), but she refuses to leave her boyfriend, because he has threatened to commit suicide in the past. Vic and Corrine (Cathy Cahlin Ryan) begin to suspect that their youngest daughter is also autistic. Dutch (Jay Karnes) is granted a lengthy interview by the "cuddler rapist" suspect, William Faulkes (Clark Gregg), who confesses to his crimes. He and Dutch have a philosophical discussion about why he raped and murdered those elderly women, which turns out to be frustrating for both of them. This made-for-TV biographical drama was adapted from William Gibson's sequel to his own play The Miracle Worker. Moira Kelly and Roma Downey are respectively starred as the teenaged Helen Keller and her teacher and closest friend Annie Sullivan. Despite her inability to see or hear, Helen has made such spectacular progress under Sullivan's tutelage that she is able to attend Radcliffe College. Accompanying Helen to the campus, Annie meets handsome journalism professor John Macy (Bill Campbell) and quickly falls in love. Having had her own crush on Macy, and fearing the loss of Annie's friendship, Helen reverts to the anger and jealousy that characterized her childhood years--but soon finds comfort in a romantic relationship of her own.
