Jack Osbourne Movies
Jack Osbourne -- the son of heavy metal rocker Ozzy Osbourne and his music manager-turned-talk show hostess wife, Sharon -- emerged as a star on his family's MTV reality series, The Osbournes (2002-2006). That program took a darkly comic look at familial dysfunction among the wealthy and privileged -- and netted the highest ratings of any single series in MTV history. By the time it wrapped, Jack in particular began to clean himself up; he dropped his alleged excessive drinking, lost over 50 pounds, and emerged triumphant. MTV rejected his pitch for a reality series of his own (reportedly arguing that he couldn't carry it); he instead starred in Jack Osbourne: Adrenaline Junkie -- a U.K.reality program that found Jack and cast mates traveling the globe to participate in "exotic" sports such as running with the bulls in Pamplona and engaging in Thai boxing. In early 2007, Osbourne also participated in the short-lived reality series Armed & Famous, in which he and other celebrities (including Erik Estrada and LaToya Jackson) spent time as officers with the Muncie, IN, police department. ~ Nathan Southern, RoviIn 1967, John Michael Osbourne, a laborer from Birmingham, England, teamed up with his friend Terence Butler to form a rock group called Rare Breed. The band didn't last long, but a couple years later the two joined forces with Tony Iommi and Bill Ward and launched a new act that would come to be known as Black Sabbath. Taking the stage name Ozzy Osbourne, the group's lead singer became an international icon of hard rock, and after leaving the band in 1979, he went on to a wildly successful solo career. Osbourne also became known for such offstage antics as snorting ants, biting the heads off birds and urinating on the Alamo, and he spent most of his years in the limelight deeply addicted to alcohol and drugs, even as he became a reality TV star with the debut of The Osbournes in 2002. Filmmakers Mike Fleiss and Mike Piscitelli give Ozzy a chance to speak for himself in the documentary God Bless Ozzy Osbourne, in which the heavy metal pioneer discusses his life, career, family and struggle with addiction; the film also includes interviews with fans and friends Paul McCartney, Tommy Lee, Henry Rollins, John Frusciante, Robert Trujillo and many more. The film was produced by Ozzy's son Jack Osbourne, with Ozzy's longtime wife and manager Sharon Osbourne serving as executive producer. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi
Designed as a brief replacement for the on-hiatus Jericho, the CBS reality series Armed & Famous has been described as a combination of Cops and The Surreal Life. Five celebrities were chosen to train and perform as patrol officers in the Muncie, Indiana police department. The lucky "rookies" included former ChiPs star Erik Estrada, singer LaToya Jackson, wrestler Trish Stratus, Jackass fall guy Jason "Wee-Man" Acuna, and, perhaps inevitably, a member of the famously dysfunctional Osbourne clan, in this case Jack Osbourne. The quintet underwent the standard rigorous training before being partnered with genuine officers and sent out for street duty. Along the way, the stars made arrests, handed out tickets, and even went undercover (in one episode, the female celebs posed as hookers). Much of the series' fun derived from the sporadic temperamental outbursts by Estrada, and the dithery starstruck behavior of the "perps" when they realized who was arresting them! Armed & Famous ran from January 9 through 24, 2007. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Marking their first theatrical-release feature since 1995's It Takes Two, the Olsen twins bring their adventures back to the big screen with New York Minute. Billed as a sort of Ferris Bueller's Day Off for tweens, the plot involves the escapades of two enterprising Long Island girls, Roxy (Mary-Kate Olsen) and Jane (Ashley Olsen), as they decide to dupe their parents and spend a day on the island of Manhattan. It seems the high-minded Jane has a speech to give to a scholarship committee, while the punky Roxy wants to meet her favorite rock band. When Jane's planner gets swiped, however, the girls find themselves embroiled in a political scandal involving a high-powered senator (Andrea Martin), as their high school's truant officer (Eugene Levy) doggedly pursues them. ~ Michael Hastings, Rovi

Fans of The Osbournes were well aware of some significant changes since the end of the first season, and the anticipation leading into season two of the hit MTV series was nearly searing hot by its debut in November 2002. It was no secret that having their lives displayed for the masses had taken its toll on the exhausted family, and for a while it looked as if the series might have run its course. With the July 2002 announcement that Sharon had been diagnosed with colon cancer, all signs pointed to the family foregoing their reality sitcom existence for a more private and personal period. This coupled with a visibly shaken Ozzy announcing that no one would be interested in seeing the family through such dark times made it appear as if the decision had been all but made to pull the plug on The Osbournes. Regardless of the trials that lay ahead, however, the premier family of reality television did indeed return for a second season in late 2002. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

A fascinating and rarely glimpsed peek into the lives of a celebrity family, the first season of MTV's wildly successful reality sitcom The Osbournes would quickly become one of the most successful programs the long-running cable music channel had ever produced. Though his legions of fans knew him well as the self-proclaimed "Crown Prince of F**king Darkness," the first season of The Osbournes proved that Osbourne's off-stage persona was at the very least as colorful as that which he portrayed on stage. While the desire to sneak a peek into a celebrity's personal life was nothing new at the dawn of the new millennium, The Osbournes proved the first program to combine this curiosity with the contemporary trend of "reality television," with sometimes endearing, and often hilarious, results. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi
