The Dalai Lama is a spiritual leader to millions of Buddhists around the world, but he's also a crucially important figure to the people of Tibet; Tibet has been under the control of the People's Republic of China since 1950, and the Dalai Lama has been recognized as the leader of the exiled independent Tibetan government since he fled the country in 1959. Though the Dalai Lama has long been considered a champion for the rights of the people of Tibet and received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989 for his work, some have argued that his religious principles have stood in the way of the direct action needed to confront China's political and economic strength, while in China the Dalai Lama is regarded as a politician dedicated to sowing discord in a Tibet that is officially regarded as "free." Filmmaker Joshua Dugdale spent three years filming the Dalai Lama as he's worked both publicly and privately to pressure China into leaving Tibet and granting the small nation its autonomy, and The Unwinking Gaze is a documentary which explores the Dalai Lama's role in Tibet's struggle for independence and both the political and spiritual sides of his battle with the Chinese government. The Unwinking Gaze was an official selection at the 2008 London International Documentary Film Festival. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

Explore the life and career of a musical artist who penned some of the biggest hits of the 1960s before turning his back on fame and completely reinventing himself as a reclusive outsider artist. In the mid-'60s, few bands rose higher up the British pop charts than the Walker Brothers, and as the front man of the group, Scott Walker was constantly in the spotlight. In the years that followed, the American-born Walker would split from the group to establish himself as a successful solo artist while inspiring such popular musicians as David Bowie and Bono. Now, as the release of Walker's 2006 solo album, The Drift, draws near, the existential crooner notorious for not granting interviews allows filmmaker Stephen Kijak to follow along for tantalizing glimpse at one of the world's most enigmatic musicians. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Filmmaker Drew Thomas brings California's popular Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival to the screen with a different kind of musical documentary that not only showcases performances by some of the hottest acts to take the stage, but offers interviews with such musical icons as Beck, Joshua Homme, Mos Def, and Perry Farrell as well. From English icon Morrissey's performance at the inaugural Coachella Festival back in 1999 to Canadian indie rockers the Arcade Fire's electric 2005 set, the musical acts featured here run the gamut from hip-hop to alternative and virtually everything in between. Other artists featured include the Pixies, the Flaming Lips, Kool Keith, Radiohead, Saul Williams, and Squarepusher. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi
In 1970, a music aficionado and entrepreneur named Michael Eavis staged a "pop, folk, and blues" festival on a dairy farm in the English community of Glastonbury, not far from Stonehenge. 1,500 attended the "Glastonbury Fayre," and a second festival followed in 1971. By 2005, The Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts had grown into the biggest pop music festival in the world, playing host to the biggest names in rock, reggae, electronic, blues, and world music for a crowd of up to 150,000 people over the course of a three-day weekend in June. Filmmaker Julien Temple offers a backstage look at the history of this event, as well as a cross section of the memorable performances which have taken place on the festival's stage in the documentary Glastonbury. Performers featured in archival footage include R.E.M., David Bowie, New Order, Radiohead, Coldplay, the Velvet Underground, Nick Cave, Oasis, Blur, Björk, and many more. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

Over the course of several albums, Britain's Radiohead have grown to become one of the most popular and critically acclaimed rock outfits in the world. Attempting to offer fans a glimpse into what makes the band tick, Radiohead: Homework - Unauthorized compiles interviews with and archive footage of the reclusive musicians. The documentary also includes clips of local record store owners from the band's hometown as they recount their memories of the group originally known as On a Friday. ~ Matthew Tobey, Rovi
This episode of South Park involves an irreverent, slightly disturbing tale of revenge. After high-schooler Scott Tenorman repeatedly humiliates Cartman (usually in ways that involve pubic hair), Eric hatches an elaborate plan, involving chili, to humiliate Scott in front of his favorite rock band Radiohead (who, in the tradition of Korn, actually perform their own voice work in the episode). Not for the easily disgusted, "Scott Tenorman Must Die" first aired July 11, 2001. Although it was the fourth episode to air during the show's fifth season, it was actually the first to be produced. ~ Perry Seibert, Rovi

Combining a broad and deeply sonic approach with an intelligent but introspective lyrical perspective, Radiohead was perhaps Britain's biggest alternative rock success story of the 1990s, earning critical respect and a surprisingly large international following. Radiohead: 7 Television Commercials is a collection of seven music videos created for songs from the albums The Bends and OK Computer. Songs include "Paranoid Android," "Fake Plastic Trees," "Just," "Karma Police," "No Surprises," "Street Spirit," and the American version of "High and Dry." ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

The British rock band Radiohead are an unusually introspective and downbeat group of musicians, which would make them unlikely candidates for international pop stardom. But against all odds, that's what happened to them in the wake of a hit single, "Creep," and press notices that have made them one of the most talked about English groups of the 1990s. In Meeting People Is Easy, director Grant Gee watches the band as they record their third album, the highly acclaimed OK Computer, then head out for an international tour, playing concerts and promoting the record in Europe, Japan, and the United States. Anyone expecting high-spirited hijinks in the manner of This Is Spinal Tap will be quickly disappointed (though anyone expecting high spirits from Radiohead has probably never heard their music). Meeting People Is Easy focuses on the downside of life on the road, as the band is booked into a long series of non-descript arenas, invited to perform on award shows where they clearly feel out of place, and repeatedly answer the same questions from an endless parade of journalists, with lead singer Thom Yorke often seeming to buckle under the strain. Meeting People Is Easy received a brief theatrical release in the United States prior to its bow on home video through the band's American record label, Capitol. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi
In this 1994 concert performance from English alternative rock superstars Radiohead, the band plays a seventeen-song set that includes such hits as "Creep", "Fake Plastic Trees", and "Pop is Dead" before a live audience at London's famed Astoria. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi
