The inner-workings of a corrupt Las Vegas casino are exposed in Martin Scorsese's story of crime and punishment. The film chronicles the lives and times of three characters: "Ace" Rothstein (Robert De Niro), a bookmaking wizard; Nicky Santoro (Joe Pesci), a Mafia underboss and longtime best friend to Ace; and Ginger McKenna (Sharon Stone, in a role she was born to play), a leggy ex-prostitute with a fondness for jewelry and a penchant for playing the field. Ace plays by the rules (albeit Vegas rules, which, as he reminds the audience in voiceover, would make him a criminal in any other state), while Nicky and Ginger lie, cheat, and steal their respective ways to the top. The film's first hour and a half details their rise to power, while the second half follows their downfall as the FBI, corrupt government officials, and angry mob bosses pick apart their Camelot piece by piece. ~ Jeremy Beday, All Movie Guide

Director Andrei Konchalovsky comes a cropper with this mawkish road movie starring Whoopi Goldberg and James Belushi. Goldberg plays Edwina, an escaped mental patient with a brain tumor and only a month to live. Belushi is Homer, a retarded man abandoned by his parents when he was a child after a smack with a baseball bat rendered him an idiot. The two team-up when Homer takes off to Oregon to visit his parents and catch up on old times. Edwina agrees to drive him there to recover the $87 that Homer has stolen from her. As they drive down the American roadways, they bond, and Edwina is granted the shining love of Homer as she lapses into a coma. ~ Paul Brenner, All Movie Guide

Tom Willis (Franklin Cover) is jealous when his wife, Helen (Roxie Roker), agrees to go to lunch with her old boyfriend Darryl. Daydreaming, Tom imagines that he has been transported to the Old West, doing battle against "Pecos Darryl" over Helen's honor. An angry John Cooper (Bo Hopkins) decides to take the law in his own hands when his pal Jim (James Garner) is beaten and his sister Gail (Laurie Jefferson) is raped by members of the Rattlers motorcycle gang. Harking back to his own leather-jacket days as a member of the Vincent Black Shadow gang, Coop takes his cycle out of mothballs and goes undercover to exact vengeance against Rattlers leader Willie Green (Paul Koslo).
