From the makers of Thug Immortal comes this "Rapumentary" chronicling the rise and fall of Death Row records. The brain-child of Suge Knight, Death Row blasted onto the music scene, virtually out of nowhere, offering up Compton-based gangsta rap from a stable of artists that included Tupac Shakur, Snoop Doggy Dogg, and Dr. Dre. Using interviews with artists, critics, and Knight himself, Welcome to Death Row attempts to sort out the story behind the controversial company, addressing rumors of violent business tactics, criticism from political groups, and alleged involvement in the drug trade. Released in 2001, the presentation runs 104 minutes. ~ Matthew Tobey, All Movie Guide
Hip hop stars Ice T, Snoop Dogg, and Ja Rule appear in this gritty drama about two young men working on the lowest rungs of a criminal syndicate. When the two are approached by the leader of another crime syndicate to perform a high-level assassination, they agree, but they soon bring chaos to their neighborhood and a world of danger upon themselves. Crime Partners was the debut feature from director J. Jesses Smith; the film was based on a novel by Al C. Clark, a pen name for the controversial African-American author Donald Goines. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

Music video director Hype Williams made his feature film debut with this visually inventive urban drama. Tommy Brown (DMX) and his friend Sincere (Nas) are gangsters who have learned how to make a good living by dealing drugs and pulling armed robberies. Tommy and Sincere have been able to move out of the ghetto in Queens where they were raised and relocate to an upscale section of Manhattan; they would seem to have it made, but both realize that their lives are headed toward a dead end. Sincere begins getting in touch with his African roots and tries to convince his girlfriend Tionne (Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins) that they should emigrate to the Motherland, while Tommy has a religious awakening and joins the Nation of Islam. Along with top-selling rappers DMX and Nas, hip-hop artist Method Man and R&B singer Taral Hicks also appear. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide
The citizens of Cabot Cove are terrified by the arrival of young Irene Terhune (Julian Donald), an apparent practitioner of black magic. Rumors are rife that Irene is actually the ghost of Annie Gorman, a local witch who had supposedly died centuries ago. Inevitably, murder rears it ugly head and Irene (or Annie) is held responsible, but Jessica (Angela Lansbury) refuses to hum along with the old song "It's Witchcraft." And yes, that's future political satirist Bill Maher in the role of Rick Rivers. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
