Not to be confused with Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D, the Brendan Fraser adventure that was released into theaters the same year, this made-for-cable take on Jules Verne's classic tale stars Golden Globe winner Rick Schroder as the leader of a treacherous mission miles below the Earth's surface. Famed anthropologist Jonathan Brock (Schroder) has just accepted the most dangerous -- and exciting -- assignment of his entire career. Four years ago, Edward Dennison (Peter Fonda) -- husband of wealthy Martha Dennison (Victoria Pratt) -- mysteriously vanished while embarking on an expedition to the planet's core. Martha has never gotten over her husband's disappearance, and she's willing to pay Jonathan whatever it takes to locate the missing Edward. Now, in order to retrace Edward's footsteps and find the answer to Martha's biggest question, Jonathan enlists the aid of his nephew Abel (Steve Grayhm) and Edward's former partner Sergei (Mike Dopud) and sets off to Alaska in hopes of locating the secret gateway to the center of the Earth.
With Martha in tow, Jonathan, Abel, and Sergei make their way into the great unknown and discover something truly spectacular. Miles beneath the Earth's surface is a world teeming with undiscovered life, a place where prehistoric birds soar overhead and man-eating megalodons rule the underworld oceans. The most surprising discovery of all, however, is a primitive race of warriors who have never seen the sun. Edward has become the leader of these men, the God-like ruler of a secret kingdom. But while Edward is indeed considered a god among the people, there is a devil in this world as well. This fantasy TV series from Canada follows the bizarre adventures of Dr. Helen Magnus, a British doctor whose area of expertise lies in cryptobiology -- which is to say, monsters. Constantly seeking out the strange and secret creatures seldom seen by others, Dr. Magnus is sometimes confronted with life forms too dangerous to unleash on the public. On the eve of his wedding, medieval Prince John (Sean Maguire), known as "Prince Charming" to his friends, is caught in a compromising situation with an alleged damsel in distress. As punishment for his indiscretion, John and his lackey Rodney (Martin Short), a wannabe wizard, are subjected to a "frogging" -- that is, they are transformed into frogs, and doomed to remain that way forever unless John can persuade a beautiful maiden to give him a kiss. Through a wrinkle in time, the amphibious John and Rodney find themselves in 21st century Manhattan, where, miraculously, our heroes are restored to their human selves when John is kissed by a flamboyant actress named Margo (Bernadette Peters). But there's still one more proviso to the frogging curse: In order to remain a human, John must get Margo to marry him. Alas, John isn't in love with Margo, but instead is enamored of a young lady named Kate (Christina Applegate) -- the living image of the Prince's long-ago sweetheart Princess Gwendolyn (also Christina Applegate). Meanwhile, Rodney has issues with his own lady love, Margo's wardrobe mistress Serena (Andrea Martin). Filmed in 2001 and subsequently released overseas, Prince Charming finally made its American TV debut on July 13, 2003, via the TNT cable network. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

The Showtime cable series Jeremiah was set in a bleak, post-apocalyptic future, 15 years after a mysterious virus had killed off everyone past puberty. The only survivors of the holocaust were teenagers and twentysomethings, with the eponymous Jeremiah (Luke Perry) falling into the latter category. Following fragmentary clues left by his father, Jeremiah navigated the dismal, ravaged countryside in search of the "Valhalla Sector," an idyllic locale which may or may not have held the key to a brighter future. He was joined in his quest by the glib, supremely untrustowrthy Kurdy (Malcolm-Jamal Warner), and, on occasion, by other youthful remnants of the human race, both friendly and antagonistic. Co-executive produced by horror film specialist Joe Dante and Babylon 5 maven J. Michael Straczynski, the weekly, 60-minute Jeremiah was launched with a 100-minute pilot episode on March 30, 2002. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

The wealthy designer of the world's first fully computer-automated jetliner summarily fires one of his engineers, a disgruntled computer hacker. In retaliation, the engineer "kidnaps" the high tech jetliner from a hidden location on the ground, and threatens to destroy the plane during its maiden flight. The lives of the passengers, which include a prominent politician and his daughter, rests in the hands of a troubled ex-war hero.
