The half-hour animated series Growing Up Creepie chronicled the adventures of a human girl child who'd been abandoned on the doorstep of Dweezworld mansion. Raised by a friendly family of bugs, little Creepie was content with her lot until time came for her to attend school with other humans -- or, as she disdainfully described them, "oversized, clod-footed bipeds." Middlington Middle School proved to be a strange, eye-opening experience for Creepie, but she managed to retain her own personality, neither succumbing to the temptation of being a "normal" kid nor reverting to 100 percent insecthood. Of course, now that she was part of the "outside" world, it behooved her to keep the existence of her Dweezworld family a secret so that they wouldn't end up fumigated. Others in the cast included Creepie's adoptive parents Caroleena, a praying mantis; Vinnie, a Dracula-esque mosquito; her step-siblings Gnat, a zany wolf bug; and Pauly, a voracious pillbug; her best human friends Budge (aka Beauregard Bently II) and Chris-Alice Hollyruller (whose dad happened to be the local exterminator!); her schoolroom nemeses Carla and Melanie; Harry Helby, most popular boy in school, who came equipped with a radar to detect likely dates; rule-bound math teacher Ms. Monsterrate; and nice but dull science teacher Dr. Pappas. Produced for the Discovery Kids cable network, Growing Up Creepie debuted September 9, 2006. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

While on the job at an abandoned Chicago office building, four electrical workers -- Dean (Richard Grieco), Ray (Richard Yearwood), Junior (Jason Jones), and Sheldon (Jeff Douglas) -- stumble upon a time portal. Instantly, Dean and Junior disappear, rematerializing in a modernistic alternate Chicago. Soon after, Ray and Sheldon follow their buddies -- a bad mistake, inasmuch as this parallel world is ruled by cannibalistic, spider-like humanoids. The four heroes link up with a group of survivors of the spider invasion, led by Dr. Morelli (Colin Fox), Elena (Kate Greenhouse), and Crane (David Newman). Will they be able to escape the rampaging arachnids and return to their own world, or will they be betrayed by a spy in their midst and delivered up to the omnivorous Spider Queen? Bearing more than a passing resemblance to the TV series Sliders, the made-for-cable Webs debuted June 28, 2003, on the Sci-Fi channel. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Typical of its source network, this Home & Garden Television spin on Blind Date and The Bachelor toned down mercenary sensationalism in favor of intelligent design sense. Each episode featured a bachelor or bachelorette who selected a potential date on the basis of how his or her home was decorated. Should the "candidate" appeal to the would-be suitor despite decoration deficiencies, design expert Dee Dee Taylor Hannah would try to bring the couple closer together by creating a mutually compatible home makeover. Love by Design first aired on September 30, 2002. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

This pilot film for the TV detective series Cagney and Lacey stars Loretta Swit as Chris Cagney and Tyne Daly as Mary Beth Lacey. C and L are NYPD undercover officers, spending their first week on the job disguised as hookers. It's all part of a plan to flush out the person who's been going around beating up prostitutes. The storyline, which also includes the murder of a diamond merchant, shifts from Cagney and Lacey's street duty to their constant struggle against sexism at precinct headquarters and at home. Executive producer Barney Rosenzweig claimed that he'd come up with the idea of Cagney and Lacey after reading a Molly Haskell piece concerning the patronizing treatment of women in films. First telecast on October 8, 1981, the pilot film for Cagney and Lacey held its own opposite the season premiere of Taxi, leading to a weekly series which lasted from 1982 to 1988. But when the series proper went into production, Loretta Swit was replaced by Meg Foster, who in turn was replaced by Sharon Gless (later the wife of executive producer Rosenzweig). ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
