As time starts spinning faster and a series of natural disasters send the world plunging into chaos, the disillusioned, self-absorbed suburbanites nestled comfortably in the hills of Northern California find their lives unraveling at an alarming rate. Global cataclysms are on the rise, and the air quality around the world is at an all-time low, and as the pressure begins to build up in the mind of suburban single mother Saura Wu, a sinister charmer appears and disrupts her efforts to rebuild her family. Now, as a series of disastrous supernormal continue to unfold, Saura's son Timothy realizes that he has been gifted with paranormal powers, which he quickly learns how to develop and hone. By drawing on his unique powers, Timothy is somehow able to alter everyone's reality - but what good can this do in a world overcome by misery and catastrophe? The giddy highs and crushing lows of Ecstasy use are felt by a group of people looking to escape their troubles in this independent drama. It's Friday night in Los Angeles, and a handful of young hipsters are on their way to a massive rave party at a Los Angeles warehouse. Twentyish Summer (Rachel Hardisty) is looking for an evening of casual fun after breaking up with Josh (Joshua Harper), a high school kid who was taking things to seriously for her taste. Matt (Brian William Toth) is happy to have ended a bad relationship with his latest boyfriend, and is looking forward to blowing off some steam with his friend Samantha (Christine Cowden), a self-centered would-be actress. Dan (Albert Rothman) devotes his days to burning through his trust fund, and is looking for any excitement the night has to offer. Sarah (Angie Greenup) is a high school teacher who just wants to forget her work for a few hours. And Dustin (Garrett Brawith) is a drug dealer who is on shaky emotion ground after his girlfriend Rain (Sanoe Lake) walked out on him; what he doesn't know is she was pregnant with his child but had an abortion and is now wary of him. Nearly everyone at the party is looking for romance and hungry for Ecstasy, the club drug that's become de rigueur among ravers, and Dustin is more than happy to supply their demand. But a batch of tainted Ecstasy has been making the rounds; it's already claimed the lives of three users, and there's no telling where the deadly drugs will pop up next. Move over, Gidget -- a new breed of female surfers with style, guts and attitude hit the screen in this feature, which combines romance with a sports drama. Anne Marie (Kate Bosworth) is a young woman living in Hawaii who has been surfing since she was a little girl, and over the past year has been training for the prestigious Pipe Masters surfing competition. But Anne Marie is still dealing with emotional baggage that's holding her back -- her mother abandoned her years ago, leaving her to raise her younger sister Penny (Mika Boorem) while having to guide herself through adolescence, and Anne Marie nearly drowned while trying to surf the famous Maui Pipeline three years ago, and has yet to shake the anxieties of this traumatic event. Anne Marie and Penny share a house with Anne Marie's friends Lena (Sanoe Lake) and Eden (Michelle Rodriguez), both fellow surf enthusiasts, and the three friends work as maids at a hotel, a job which offers them flexible hours for riding the waves. When a pro football team checks into the hotel, Anne Marie meets Matt (Matthew Davis), a promising quarterback who has his eye on her. Anne Marie is just as attracted to Matt as he is to her, but will Anne Marie have to choose between the man of her dreams and the recognition as a surfer she's worked for years to receive? Kate Bosworth, Michelle Rodriguez, and Sanoe Lake did all their own surfing in Blue Crush; Bosworth and Rodriguez went into training to learn the sport before shooting began, while Lake, a native Hawaiian, was already a confirmed surf enthusiast. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide
