Richard Hatch Movies
A graduate of the ABC daytime drama All My Children, Richard Hatch managed to get off on the wrong foot with critics and audiences alike with his first starring prime-time TV role. In 1976, Hatch replaced Michael Douglas on the long-running cop series The Streets of San Francisco. Before the ink was dry on the contract, Hatch was issuing public complaints about the shortcomings of his character, inspector Dan Robbins. This might have been excused as the youthful hubris, but then Hatch took his beloved co-star Karl Malden to task for giving him acting advice on the set. Not altogether surprisingly, Hatch was the subject of fewer and fewer interviews and articles after Streets was cancelled in 1977. He tried to attain film stardom, but things like Charlie Chan and the Curse of the Dragon Queen (1980) were enough to scuttle anyone's career. Luckily, Richard Hatch was able to garner a fan following with his role as Apollo on the 1979 sci-fi series Battlestar Gallactica; he also delivered a superb performance as Jan of Jan and Dean in the 1978 TV biopic Dead Man's Curve. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide- 2006

A rivalry between two career criminals leads to a chase across two continents in this action thriller. A scientist discovers what you can't see really can hurt you in this horror story. Dr. Peter Jensen (Richard Hatch) is a professor of archeology who is leading a group of students on a research assignment, in which they hope to explore an ancient Native American burial site. Or at least that's what Jensen has told most of his students; it turns out that Jensen and a few of his underlings actually have a plan to raid the site and bring home as many Indian artifacts as they can find, which will fetch them a fortune on the black market. Not all of the students think this is a good idea, and the Indian hieroglyphics in the cave where the burial site is located warns of a evil force which will take revenge on those who tamper with the site. While Jensen and his partners scoff at this, they discover that this is no legend -- and worst of all, the beast that is determined to do them in is not only powerful and deadly, but invisible. In the first hour-long episode of Murder She Wrote (the debut episode had run two hours), mystery writer Jessica Fletcher (Angela Lansbury) is back in her home town of Cabot Cove, Maine, where she makes the acquaintance of a seedy-looking gentleman named Ralph (Howard Duff), who has shown up in her backyard looking for work. At the same time, the authorities are investigating the reported death of multimillionaire Stephen Earl, who was swept off his yacht during a hurricane--or at least that's the story given by Earl's four rather predatory daughters. This low-budget film is about a scientist (Kenneth Hendel) and two other people (Kay Lenz and Richard Hatch), in the wrong place at the wrong time, who are transported to another world in another dimension when an earthquake occurs just as the scientist is experimenting with his "matter" transmitter. As the transmitter beeps and flashes, the trio end up in the strange world of Vonya (which looks very much like the African plains where this film was shot, and where everyone speaks English). The hustler in Hustler of Muscle Beach is fast-talking New York promoter Nick Demec (Richard Hatch). Hoping to cash in on the bodybuilding craze, Demec stages a muscleman -- and musclewoman -- contest in Venice, CA (where the film was shot). The hero's get-rich-quick scheme gets him into hot water when he selects a most unusual candidate for his protégé. Several real-life male bodybuilders appear onscreen, including Franco Columbu and Frank Zane, but the film's ad campaign focused on the bikini-clad female contestants. This exploitation flick chronicles the rise and fall of a country-rock superstar who bears a striking resemblance to the fallen King of Rock and Roll--despite the film's disclaimer that the flashy, pill-poppin performer decked out in his bejeweled polyester jump suits does not represent Elvis. In the conclusion of "Greetings from Earth", six Terrans from the 13th Colony (formerly known as Earth) are released from suspended animation when their drifting space station is discovered. Upon awakening, the six become obsessed with the notion that the Galactica is part of the hated Eastern Alliance, which brought about the destruction of Earth several centuries before. Adama (Lorne Greene) begins to wonder if the newly revived travellers are whom they claim to be when they demand to be taken to the planet Paradeen--lest they all perish. Experiment in Terra is a 60-minute episode of the TV sci-fi series Battlestar Gallactica. Joining regulars Lorne Greene, Richard Hatch and Dirk Benedict is guest villain John Calicos as the outer space "quisling" Baltar. In plotting his escape from Battlestar Galactica, Baltar also plans to free the imprisoned rebels of the planet Terra. You might get some fun guessing what planet Terra is really supposed to be and spotting how many plot elements are "borrowed" from Star Wars.
