The glorious Hollywood institution of the romantic comedy gets raked over the coals in this broad parody of any number of boy-meets-girl flicks. Julia Jones (Alyson Hannigan) is a young woman who wants nothing more than to find the man of her dreams and settle down. However, Julia has a rather serious weight problem that prevents her from making a positive impression on people. Determined to find love at all costs, Julia somehow drops the weight and meets Grant Fonckyerdoder (Adam Campbell), a handsome and charming Englishman who falls head over heels for her. Julia and Grant waste no time in setting the date, but until they make their way to the altar they have to deal with meddling parents, flaky wedding planners, fights over the right wedding dress, vertically challenged romantic advisors, and Andy (Sophie Monk), a longtime friend of Grant, who isn't so happy to hear he's getting hitched. Also featuring Fred Willard, Jennifer Coolidge, Eddie Griffin, and Tony Cox, Date Movie was written and directed by Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer, proudly billed as "two of the six writers of Scary Movie." ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

After surviving a robbery and physical assault, an interracial couple (Raviv Ullman, Jurnee Smollett) begins suffering from severe abdominal pains. House (Hugh Laurie) suspects that the similarity of symptoms has a special significance, hidden deeply within the couple's complicated past. Elsewhere, House gets sore when Wilson (Robert Sean Leonard) begins spending his spare time with a new nurse (Kimberly Quinn). Back from searching for a missing Rambaldi artifact at Oxford University, Sydney (Jennifer Garner) is forced to take a polygraph test by Sloane (Ron Rifkin), who is determined to expose the mole working for SD-6. A later counterespionage assignment takes Sydney and her reluctant partner, Dixon (Carl Lumbly), to Mexico, this time to locate an ancient timekeeping device that may prove to be another piece in the Rambaldi puzzle. When Merl the Parasite Demon (Matthew James) -- Angel's frequent, if unwilling, informant on the supernatural underworld -- turns up dead, it's just one of a string of puzzling demon murders. Wesley (Alexis Denisof), Angel (David Boreanaz) and the gang follow the killer's trail, hoping to learn why somebody is murdering harmless demons along with evil ones. Gunn (J. August Richards) figures it out first, though; it's the work of his old gang of street fighters, who view all demons as inhuman beasts fit only to be hunted for sport. As the confused and conflicted Gunn arrives at Caritas, his old crew shows up and starts shooting the assembled demons. Because they're human, they aren't bound by the enchantments that prevent demon violence in The Host's nightclub. The poor demons, however, are helpless to fight back. That puts a real damper on Cordy and Fred's evening; Cordelia (Charisma Carpenter) has only just convinced Fred (Amy Acker) to overcome her agoraphobia and visit Caritas, but girls' night out turns into a hostage situation. As the standoff continues, Gunn tries to justify his allegiance to Angel to his old friends. He admits, however, that he's wary of growing too close to his vampire boss. With the help of Angel's friends the Furies, Cordy breaks the spell that's keeping Angel from kicking serious butt. Gunn's gang is vanquished, but the former street fighter's relationships with Angel and Wesley have been seriously compromised. Former video director Michael Bay had his first big hit with this action comedy, which also returned producers Jerry Bruckheimer and Don Simpson to the big-budget, high-violence movies that they successfully churned out in the '80s. Mike Lowrey (Will Smith) and Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence) are two Miami cops who watch as 100 million dollars in heroin, from the biggest drug bust of their careers, is stolen out of the basement of police headquarters. This puts them hot on the trail of French drug lord Fouchet (Tchéky Karyo), who leaves a trail of bodies in his wake and only one witness, Julie Mott (Téa Leoni), who quickly teams up with our heroes. Comic hijinks ensue when plot complications force Mike to impersonate the married Marcus, to the point of moving in with his wife and children, while Marcus takes over Mike's bachelor pad and lifestyle. Car chases, snappy one-liners, and nonstop pacing fuel this umpteenth variation on the cop "buddy" formula. ~ Don Kaye, All Movie Guide

Bill Murray co-directed (along with Howard Franklin) this mixture of The Out-of-Towners and After Hours, concerning Grimm (Bill Murray), a frustrated city planner who is fed up with the corruption and venality of New York City. Getting together a couple of accomplices -- Phyllis (Geena Davis), who admires Grimm for his audacity, and Loomis (Randy Quaid), a follower to Grimm's leader since grade school -- Grimm decides to rob a bank, pocket the money, get out of town and take off to tropical splendor. Dressing in a clown suit, Grimm devises a unique way to rob a bank -- taking a group of hostages at the bank and inviting the police to surround the bank. Amazingly, although pursued by a police chief (Jason Robards), the trio manage to pull off the robbery. However, the problems really start when they try to get from the bank to the airport -- which proves to be more difficult than the robbery. ~ Paul Brenner, All Movie Guide
