Two competing works of fiction begin to take on lives of their own in this dark comic fantasy from director Wai Ka-fai. A lawyer (Lau Ching-wan) is driving with his wife (Kelly Lin), daughter (Mia Yam) and son (Chung Ying-kit) when the car is involved in a serious accident that leaves the father dead and the daughter blind. Mother is wracked with grief, and the young daughter tries to lift her spirits by writing a book in which an auto wreck claims the lives of the rest of the family but father miraculously survives. However, within the daughter's book, the fictional father senses that this alternate scenario isn't making anyone feel better, so be begins writing a book of his own, in which his life is taken by an accident as his wife and kids live on. Soon the father and daughter are writing competing versions of life after the auto accident, and their common characters begin bumping into one another as they exist within two fictional planes of existence at once. Three maestro Chinese action directors - Ringo Lam, Tsui Hark and Johnny To - co-helm the adventure saga Triangle. The film actually constitutes a film serial, divided into thirds, with each filmmaker responsible for one episode. Three drinking buddies, Fai, Sam and Mok are visited one dark and stormy night by a strange old man who dazzles them with the tale of an ancient treasure. The artifact in question - worth untold amounts of money - lies buried beneath an almost impenetrable government facility. The retrieval mission is theirs, if they wish to accept it, and if they can claim the treasure, they get to keep it. Indeed, the "loot" - a magnificent robe of interwoven golden strands, its monetary value inestimable - outstrips everyone's expectations. In May 1946, a panel of judges and prosecutors from eleven different nations gathered in Tokyo, Japan to preside over the International Military Tribunal of the Far East, a series of trials held to determine the guilt or innocence of Japanese leaders and military personnel accused of war crimes during World War II. China was represented at the Tribunal, and sixty years later the Chinese film industry offers their perspective on this event in this historical drama. Xiao Nan (Chu Hsiao-tien) is a Chinese journalist who has been sent to Tokyo to cover the tribunal for leftist news outlet Da Gong. Xiao places special emphasis in his coverage on Dr. Mei Ru'ao (Damian Lau), the well-respected Chinese judge who has been sent to represent his nation at the tribunal. It soon becomes clear to many observers that American judge William Webb (Daniel Ziskie) will dominate the proceedings, which is seen as an insult by Mei, especially since China joined the United States in preparing and signing the official documents of surrender. As Mei, Webb and their colleagues weigh the evidence against the men who led the Japanese forces and the troops who slaughtered their enemies in the fields and served as guards in their military prisons, Xiao learns about a possible scandal in the making -- a plot to assassinate Mei and bring the tribunal to a halt. A low-key supernatural chiller from Bio-Cops director Steve Cheng, Sleeping With the Dead finds depressed hospital surgeon David (Jordan Chan) drifting into contact with a malevolant ghost following the death of his mother and the discovery that his wife has been unfaithful. Having gained the ability to see ghosts following an incident in which he momentarily flatlined as a child, David's unique ability results in a withdrawn man pushed even further towards the edge following his wife's affair. Soon embarking on an affair of his own, David is subsequently troubled to learn that several members of his childhood group of friends have fallen victim to an otherworldly killer, each killed on their birthdays and having had their left eyeballs removed. Teaming with surviving friend, and cop, Iron Cheung (Simon Lui) to uncover the mystery of the killing before Cheung's rapidly approaching birthday, it seems that time may be running out for the hapless duo. Directed by Tsui Hark, The Legend of Zu is an adaptation of the 64-volume epic novel of the same name, and follows several warriors training in the mysterious Zu mountains. Somehow, the powers of the mountain are absorbed by the warriors and subsequently used to help combat the evil forces threatening the world's safety. When the mountains are invaded by a creature known only as the Blood Demon, the warriors must pool their skills in order to preserve humankind.
