Nora Ephron directed and co-wrote this updated adaptation of a classic situation comedy that also casts a satirical eye on the entertainment industry. Jack Wyatt (Will Ferrell) is a movie star whose career has been going into a slow and steady decline. Desperate for a project that will give his reputation a jump start, Jack agrees to star in a film version of the once-popular television series Bewitched as hapless hubby Darrin Stephens, under the condition that an unknown actress be cast as the female lead so he won't be upstaged. After auditioning dozens of women who fail to make the grade, Jack meets lovely and charming Isabel Bigelow (Nicole Kidman), and is immediately certain she's the perfect choice to play witch-turned-housewife Samantha. However, there's one thing neither Jack nor the producers of the film know -- Isabel really is a witch, and while she's been trying to get along without her powers to better fit in among mortals, she will use her special talents when need be. The film also stars Michael Caine as Isabel's father, Nigel, Shirley MacLaine as Iris Smythson (the actress hired to play Endora), and Jason Schwartzman as Jack's agent. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

Can it be that Monk's beloved wife Trudy, reportedly killed by a bomb blast in 1997, is still alive? That's what Valerie (Traylor Howard) thinks when she sees a woman (Melora Hardin) who not only looks like Trudy, but is also overheard admitting that she faked her own death to save her family from the vengeance of the extremist group which may have ordered the bombing. Naturally, Monk (Tony Shalhoub) is exultant over this news, but Valerie suspects that something is terribly, terribly wrong here--and her suspicions are apparently confirmed when "Trudy" is seen lingering around the body of a murdered man named Ellinghouse (Harve Presnell). ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
While trying to retrieve a stolen newspaper, paperboy Nestor Alverez (Enrique Almeida) is killed on Monk's doorstep. In his efforts to determine the motive behind the killing, Monk (Tony Shalhoub) manages to solve two unrelated murders--but still can't find out why anyone would want to bump off a nice kid like Nestor. It takes an additional murder, coupled with the keen analytical eye of Monk's nurse-assistant Sharona (Bitty Schram), to finally crack the case. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
Monk (Tony Shalhoub) is reunited with his former father-in-law Dwight Ellison (Bob Gunton), the producer of the popular TV game show "Treasure Chest." Convinced that the game's current champion Val Birch (Larry Brandenberg) is cheating, Ellison asks Monk to investigate. The solution to the mystery rests in the fact that "Treasure Chest" host Roddy Lankman (John Michael Higgins) has recently murdered his personal assistant--but Monk will only be able to crack the case if he becomes a contestant himself. This episode introduces Jarrad Paul as Monk's obnoxious upstairs neighbor Kevin Dorfman, and, in a flashback sequence, Melora Hardin as Monk's late wife Trudy (a role previously essayed by Stella Rusich). ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
Following memorable roles in the military action-adventures Pearl Harbor (2001) and Black Hawk Down (2001), young actor Josh Hartnett is propelled to romantic leading man status with this semi-autobiographical comedy from screenwriter Rob Perez. Hartnett stars as Matt Sullivan, a young man smarting over the bitter breakup of his most recent relationship. With Lent approaching, Matt decides to observe the 40-day tradition by abstaining from all sexual contact, including self-gratification. Once his odyssey of discipline has begun, he meets the girl of his dreams, while his ex begins campaigning to get him back. Co-starring Shannyn Sossamon, Maggie Gyllenhaal, and Vinessa Shaw, 40 Days and 40 Nights inspired another round of controversy between distributor Miramax and the Catholic League, which accused the film of being a "vulgar parody" of Lent. The League previously protested the company's releases of Priest (1994) and Dogma (1999). ~ Karl Williams, All Movie Guide

One of several government-espionage series unveiled during the 2001-2002 TV season, UC: Undercover detailed the exploits of the Special Operations Group, an elite five-person team answerable only to the Justice Department. Using up-to-date technology and advanced martial arts skills, the Group was dedicated to tracking down and capturing supercriminals and terrorists (though several episodes dealing with the latter were toned down in the wake of the World Trade Center tragedy). Described by several observers as the Wiseguy of the early 21st century, the series found its regulars adopting all manner of disguises and new identities in order to infiltrate the illicit organizations which they'd targeted for extinction. Originally cast as group leader John Keller, Grant Show was replaced in the second episode by new leader Frank Donovan (Oded Fehr); other regulars included Jon Seda as Jake, Vera Farmiga as Alex, Bruklin Harris as Monica, and Jarrad Paul as Cody. Executive produced by Steve Salerno (one of the writers of the movie hit Armageddon), UC: Undercover began its weekly, 60-minute NBC run on September 30, 2001. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

The plot thickens when Teal'c (Christopher Judge) becomes temporary cartetaker of the ubiquitous skull. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
Arriving on a dead planet, the SG-1 team finds an ancient artifact, which emits strange elecromagnetic signals. The team brings the artifact back to earth through Stargate, only to discover that they are transporting a self-destructive alien virus, one that grows more powerful and dangerous with each attempt on its life. In desperation, Carter (Amanda Tapping) suggests that O'Neill (Richard Dean Anderson) allow his body to be used as the alien's host so that the team can attempt to establish communications--but they'd better hurry before the entire earth is reduced to rubble. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Elsewhere, Elaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) can't get Puddy (Patrick Warburton) off her mind, or out of her bed. George (Jason Alexander) parlays his phony handicap into a one-year contract with his new employer (Gordon Jump). Ford soon reveals that he knows that Buffy is the Slayer. Angel, suspicious of Ford's intentions and equally jealous, teams up with Willow (Alyson Hannigan) to check him out. They discover that, instead of transferring schools, Ford is actually a member of a vampire-worshipping club.
