The toughest man in the American military faces a new kind of challenge -- looking after four kids in soccer-mom suburbia -- in this family-friendly comedy from Walt Disney Pictures. Shane Wolf (Vin Diesel) is a former Navy SEAL who was assigned to protect a scientist working on a top-secret defense project for the government. Despite Wolf's efforts, however, an assassin slipped past him and murdered the man he was guarding. The inventor's project is still being stored in his home, so Wolf has now been assigned to protect Julie (Faith Ford), the scientist's widow, as well as her four children, Zoe (Brittany Snow), Seth (Max Thieriot), Lulu (Morgan York), and baby Peter (Kegan Hoover and Logan Hoover). Wolf has had years of military experience in some of the most dangerous places on Earth, but he doesn't know much about raising kids, and he soon discovers his new job demands he be a nanny as much as a bodyguard. The Pacifier also co-stars Brad Garrett, Lauren Graham, and Carol Kane. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

Based on a best-seller by Elizabeth Berg, this made-for-TV movie stars Christine Lahti as Samantha Morrow, a middle-class mom deserted by her shallow husband, David (Chris Potter). In order to keep a roof over her head -- not to mention the head of her son, Travis (Mark Rendall) -- Samantha decides to take in boarders. Among these is a runaway teenager named Lavender Blue (Grace Lynn Kung) and a chubby working stiff named King (Daniel Baldwin). Without giving the game away, it can be noted that one of these boarders will enable Samantha to realize her full value as a woman and human being by film's end. Also on hand are Samantha's down-to-earth mom (Eva Marie Saint) and cable-TV home-design expert Colin Cowie (as himself). Open House made its initial CBS appearance on February 16, 2003. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

A plucky pilot searching for a missing relative gets bugged by a island controlled by giant spiders in this horror opus. Mercer (Alex Reid) is a pretty but all-business female pilot whose brother is a novice flyer. When a small plane he's flying crashes on a small island in the South Pacific, Mercer immediately assembles a crew and sets out on a rescue mission to find her brother. Joining Mercer in the search for her brother are Valentine (Chris Potter), a mercenary handy with a gun; Dr. Leon (Pepe Sancho), a tough-talking physician; Capri (Ravil Isyanov), a scientist investigating a strange disease that's been traced back to the island; and Susana (Neus Asensi), a good friend who is bright and resourceful. When Mercer and her associates arrive on the island, they believe they're ready for anything, but they're not prepared for what they find -- a breed of huge and deadly spiders, who are ready and willing to defend their territory and begin picking off Mercer's crew one by one. While shot in Mexico by a Spanish production company, Arachnid was co-produced by American producer Brian Yunza (through his multi-national Fantastic Factory production house), and helmed by American director Jack Shoulder. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

The eighth and final season of the slick and sophisticated cop drama Silk Stalkings finds undercover detectives (and former husband and wife) Tom Ryan (Chris Potter) and Cassy St. John (Janet Gunn) continuing to solve perplexing crimes on behalf of their superior officer, Captain Harry Lipschitz (Charlie Brill), at a Palm Beach, FL police department. Highlights this season include the episode "Forever," a virtual replay of the series' third season finale, with Cassy relentlessly hunting down the lowlife who shot and nearly killed Tom (In a novel twist, Tom assists in the investigation, albeit as a part of an "out of body" experience!); and "A Clockwork Florida Orange," a perverse spin on Stanley Kubrick's already perverse 1971 film of (almost) the same name. The series ends with the tense and curiously downbeat two-parter "Noir," in which Tom is framed for murder by his duplicitious fiancée; Cassy is suspended; and Lipschitz is forced to resign. The climax occurs at an island casino, with several plot strands deliberately left dangling...but with the promise of even more intrigue (sexual and otherwise) in the near future! ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Evidently, the chemistry between Silk Stalkings' new stars Chris Potter (as Det. Sgt. Tom Ryan) and Janet Gunn (as Det. Sgt. Cassandra "Cassy" St. John) registered quite well with fans during their first appearances in the series' sixth season. Thus, as season seven roles around, Tom Ryan and Cassy St. John continue to go undercover to solve "crimes of passion" amongst the wealthy elite of Palm Beach, FL, under the aegis of their dyspeptic superior officer, Captain Harry Lipschitz (Charlie Brill). The fact that Tom and Cassy used to be husband and wife serves to add a layer of sizzling sexual tension to the proceedings. Plus, both detectives periodically undergo personal crises involving their individual pasts, which can be charitably described as "checkered." Some interesting guest stars appear during this season's allotment of episodes, among them Morgan Brittany, Adam Carl, and Star Trek: The Next Generation's Michael Dorn (the latter is cast as a lawyer with whom Cassy has a brief fling). Season seven ends with the by now traditional cliffhanger, with Cassy being framed for murder...by a pscyhopathic computer! ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

As Silk Stalkings enters its sixth season, undercover cops Michael Price and Holly Rawlins, a team created in season five by Palm Beach, FL police captain Lipschitz (Charlie Brill) as replacements for detectives Chris Lorenzo (deceased) and Rita Lance (retired), are nowhere to be found -- and in fact their disappearances are never completely explained. Now handling the assignments formerly allotted to the Price-Rawlins and Lorenzo-Lance teams are detective sergeants Tom Ryan (Chris Potter) and Cassandra "Cassy" St. John (Janet Gunn). Lipschitz had previously teamed Tom and Cassy to solve crimes of passion amongst the wealthy elite of Palm Beach, and had been pleased with the results. But there's a catch: Tom and Cassy are not only former partners, but former husband and wife. The sexual tension between the two cops is so palpable as to be overwhelming in several of the season six episodes, even though both Tom and Cassy struggle valiantly to get over one another by dating other people. Tension of another sort arises in the form of D.A. Alexander (Kent McCord), a "rules are rules" type for whom Cassy has nothing but contempt -- and for good reason. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
