Reported killed in an hot air balloon accident, reclusive millionaire Derek Bronson (Stephen Bogardus) seemingly returns from the dead to hire Monk (Tony Shalhoub) for a special assignment. The fact that Bronson is suffering from leprosy would normally be enough to send Monk scurrying in the opposite direction, but he is shamed into taking the job by his more tolerant caregiver Natalie (Taylor Howard). Here's the deal: Bronson had initially been willing to remain "dead", but now he wants Monk to deliver proof that he's still alive so that Mrs. Bronson (Sarah Brown) will not be cheated out of her husband's estate by some scheming relatives. Well, it's a good story, but it's not quite true--and without revealing any more of the plot, it can be noted that a pivotal scene articulates the old vaudeville catchphrase "Don't shoot--I'm only the piano player." ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
An unremarkable parking-enforcement officer living a low-key existence of solitary lunches in the park, lonely dinners at home, and superhero comics that at least afford him the quiet release of fantasy enrolls into a clinical trial for antidepressant pills, only to find that it has some decidedly unexpected side effects, in directors Hal Haberman and Jeremy Passmore's quirky comic-book superhero comedy. Les Franken (Michael Rappaport) leads an unassuming life that rarely deviates from a strict regiment of working, eating, sleeping, and comic book reading. His only two friends are a pair of stoners who own a local comic shop, so Les determines to shake things up a bit by volunteering as a test subject for an experimental drug designed to curb depression. When the drug appears to give Les special powers, the doctor in charge of the clinical controlled test insists that Les is simply experiencing an unanticipated psychological reaction to the medication. But Les is convinced that his powers are genuine, and as he ditches his work uniform in favor of more superhero-appropriate threads, he is about to find out once and for all whether he truly is able to leap tall buildings in a single bound, or his depression, combined with the strange side-effects of the drug, has somehow propelled his superhero fantasies to the forefront of his damaged psyche. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

Michelle (Reiko Aylesworth) has captured Alvers (Lothaire Bluteau), but despite Gael's (Jesse Borrego) best efforts, the virus has been dispersed in the Chandler Plaza Hotel. Michelle calls Tony (Carlos Bernard) to tell him the bad news, and he's horrified to realize that she's calling from inside the hotel. He tells her to leave immediately, but she refuses, understanding that she might already be infected. Chappelle (Paul Schulze) tells Michelle that she's to shoot to kill if anyone tries to leave. She gets the hotel security chief, Phillips (Doug Savant), to help her keep everyone inside and maintain order. Alvers, knowing he's going to die, tells Michelle he'll tell her everything he knows if she promises to kill him once he starts showing symptoms of the virus. There are 11 other vials in play, and the virus has been modified, as they soon discover when Gael starts showing symptoms within an hour of being exposed. One hotel employee, Margolis (J.D. Cullum), overhears Michelle and Gael talking, and tries to escape. When that fails, he sets off the fire alarm, bringing a crowd of hotel guests down to the lobby. The guests demand to know why they can't leave, and Michelle tells them there's a toxic substance in the air outside the building. This story falls apart when a few people in the lobby start to get nosebleeds, and a full-scale panic breaks out. Meanwhile, Palmer (Dennis Haysbert) reluctantly lies to the police to back up Sherry's (Penny Johnson Jerald) alibi. Jack (Kiefer Sutherland) and Chase (James Badge Dale) allow Amador (Greg Ellis) to escape, hoping he'll lead him to the mastermind behind the virus plot, but their plans backfire, and Jack gets a call from an old friend. ~ Josh Ralske, All Movie Guide

Nina's dead, and some are questioning the necessity of Jack (Kiefer Sutherland) shooting her. Chappelle (Paul Schulze), in particular, is worried about covering himself, as she was their only lead, but then Chloe (Mary Lynn Rajskub) catches a financial transaction that eventually enables CTU to get a location for Amador (Greg Ellis). When an undercover officer on the scene is shot, Jack and Chase (James Badge Dale) barge into the club and capture Amador. Amador is too afraid of his client to talk, but he does mention that the man seems to know Jack. While Tony (Carlos Bernard) does some cross-referencing to come up with potential suspects, the team finds blueprints for the Chandler Plaza Hotel on Amador's laptop. Against Tony's wishes, Chappelle assigns Michelle (Reiko Aylesworth) to lead a squad, including Gael (Jesse Borrego), to the hotel. While hotel security attempts to lock things down, Tony orders Michelle to wait outside until the HAZMAT suits arrive, but when she discovers that Alvers (Lothaire Bluteau) is inside, she goes in after him, and her team follows. Meanwhile, Palmer (Dennis Haysbert) deals with the aftermath of Milliken's death. The police don't buy Julia's (Gina Torres) cover story, and they don't believe Sherry (Penny Johnson Jerald) either, when she claims she was never at Milliken's house. ~ Josh Ralske, All Movie Guide

The title of the CBS doctor drama referred to the fictional Presidio Medical Group of San Francisco. Distinguishing this effort from all other forcep-and-scalpel weeklies was the fact that the staff of Presidio Med was virtually all-female, save for a brace of "token" handsome hunks. Still, in standard TV fashion, the doctors became emotionally (and sometimes intimately) involved in the welfare of their patients. The main characters included OB-GYN specialist Harriet Lanning (Blythe Danner), oncologist Rae Brennan (Dana Delany), cardiologist Letty Jordan (Anna Deavere Smith), plastic surgeon Jackie Collette (Sasha Alexander), pediatrician Jules Keating (Julianne Nicholson), and, from the male contingent, internist Matt Slingerland (Paul Blackthorne) and Greek-born surgeon Nicholas Kokoris (Oded Fehr). One of the most expensive films ever to come out of Bollywood, Lagaan tells the tale of the Indian village Champaner, beset by drought and British colonialism in the year 1893. Without a drop of rain in months, the worried villagers of Champaner decide to ask the local authorities for a temporary repeal of their taxes -- the hated lagaan. Led by the heroic Bhuvan (Indian superstar Aamir Khan) they bring their plight to the military governor, Captain Russell (Paul Blackthorne). But the sadistic Russell threatens to raise the lagaan threefold, unless the villagers can beat his men at a game of cricket, in which case he'll lift taxes on the entire province for a period of three years. Bhuvan accepts the challenge, but there's a problem -- no one in Champaner knows how to play cricket. A band of misfits come to the rescue, coached by Russell's soft-hearted sister Elizabeth (Rachel Shelley), and the race is on to be ready in three months' time. A British chamber drama exploring three young couples in various states of conversation during an extended dinner party, this is the second film from writer/director Simon Rumley in a planned trilogy on young Londoners, which began with his pop mockumentary Strong Language. A married couple, Eddy and Lilly (Stuart Laing and Selina Giles), currently house-sitting, invite over four other individuals to partake in an evening of truth-telling and dissing. The guests include flashy Dan (Paul Blackthorne and edgy Charlotte (Tania Emery, closely followed by shy social worker Alan (Thomas Fisher) and sweet but dim Alex (Jennifer White). Everyone carries certain baggage; Dan, for one, is still smitten with Lilly while being constantly aggravated by Charlotte's excessive nagging, and Eddy continues, unwillingly, to provide Dan drugs. A late-breaking game of "truth" breaks through their facades to reveal their innermost thoughts. ~ Jason Clark, All Movie Guide

Stephen Lennhoff directs this low-budget comedic thriller set in London's seedy gay male escort scene. John (Paul Blackthorne) leads a lonely existence until he is picked up by a Scottish skinhead junkie (Ian Henderson) and introduced to the Boys Galore escort agency, run by the ever-mincing Mitzi (Gary Fairhall) and middle-aged Bethsheba (Sue Tilling). John is promptly hired out by sleazy American millionaire Bad Daddy (Angus McIness), who lives in a palatial estate.
