Freestyle motocross is a competition in which motorcyclists launch themselves and their bikes nearly 50 feet into the air and then perform tricks that were traditionally used in BMX freestyle competitions. The sport originated in traditional motocross races when racers who were far ahead or behind would play to the crowd with leg kicks, twists and no-hands tricks after a high jump. Filled with slow motion shots and modern rock, this video highlights many of the more memorable moments of the freestyle motocross competition at the Gravity Games, an Olympic-style competition held for the first time in 1999 in Providence, Rhode Island. Those unfamiliar with this "extreme sport" may find themselves in awe of some of the tricks these men pull off and will definitely cringe when they do not land quite right. Carey Hart, one of the sport's most famous participants, at one point launches himself and his motorcycle into the air and completes a back flip. Though the editing style and the accompanying music is geared toward the Gen-X/MTV crowd, it retains the original production styles of NBC Sports, which originally sponsored and broadcast the competition; though targeting a certain demographic, there is an attempt to appeal to everyone. And for those that can't find a thrill in watching these maniacs do things that should never be tried at home, check to make sure there is still a pulse! ~ Ed Atkinson, Rovi
