Although Highlander: The Raven was a spin-off of the long-running sci-fi adventure series Highlander, it actually bore scant resemblance to its "parent" show. Top-billed Elizabeth Gracen, a former Miss America, reprised her Highlander role as the beautiful Amanda Darieux, a reformed cat burglar, who like her ex-lover Duncan MacLeod (played in the original series by Adrian Paul), was an "Immortal" -- though she certainly didn't look like she was 1,200 years old! Foresworn to uphold Duncan's values and fight against evil and injustice throughout the world (provided she could avoid being beheaded, the only way that an Immortal could be permanently killed), Amanda was teamed with detective Nick Wolfe (Paul Johanssen), whom she had met after being "reborn" when Nick shot down his crooked partner. Quitting the force due to ethical disagreements with his superiors, Nick became a private detective, circumventing proper legal procedure whenever it suited his purposes. He also carried a torch for his partner Amanda, and shared the secret of her immortality, as did Amanda's middle-aged companion, a con artist named Lucy Becker (Patricia Gage). As often as possible, Nick and Amanda did leg work for ex-federal agent Bert Myers (Hannes Jaenecke), who ran a security organization. In the tradition of Highlander, Highlander: The Raven filmed the first half of its debut season in Canada, and its final episodes in Paris, where Amanda and Bert had relocated to set up a new private-eye agency, with Nick handling exclusively European cases. Added to the cast at this time was Robert Cavanah as Amanda's platonic roommate and confidante, Father Liam Riley. Debuting in American syndication on September 26, 1998, Highlander: The Raven lasted 22 hour-long episodes, the last of which was "open-ended" enough to warrant a revival somewhere down the line (Nick discovered that he himself was an Immortal, and was a bit uncomfortable about his new status!). ~ All Movie Guide

Jessica (Angela Lansbury) heads to the resort community of Aspen, Colorado, where dwells her old friend Laney Boswell (Leigh Taylor-Young). In time-honored Murder, She Wrote tradition, Laney's husband Grant turns up murdered, and a mountain of evidence points to the poor woman as the culprit. Rebecca (Nadia Cameron), the mentor of Immortal cat burglar Amanda (Elizabeth Gracen), is murdered by Luther (Emile Abossolo-M'bo), one of her students. Hoping to achieve invulnerability, Luther cuts a bloody swath in his search for the portions of an ancient crystal once owned by Rebecca. By virtue of his previous amorous relationship with Amanda, Duncan (Adrian Paul) is reluctantly drawn into the present intrigue. This military action drama stars Billy Wirth as Capt. Tom Waters, an Air Force pilot. Waters has been made part of a secret defense department project involving virtual reality technology, headed up by Col. Anderson (Steve Railsback) and Gen. Breslaw (Corbin Bernsen). However, Waters notices that the flight simulation equipment used for the experiments is behaving in an erratic manner, and two of the other men involved in the project have died while using it. When Anderson and Breslaw are slow to answer questions about what might be happening, Waters begins to wonder just how many secrets are being kept from the pilots involved in the project. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

Duncan's troublesome Immortal ex-girlfriend, Amanda (Elizabeth Gracen), comes back into his life. Amanda insists that she is no longer a thief, but Duncan (Adrian Paul) doubts her word when two FBI agents show up. It seems that Amanda is in possession of some counterfeit plates that she picked up during WW2 -- and since she plans to print her own money, that isn't really stealing, is it? Things go far beyond petty larceny when one of the FBI men murders the other and frames Duncan and Amanda for the crime. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Lower Level is a glossy, but uneven thriller in which a wealthy, unhappy woman becomes the obsession of a security guard who reads her secret journals and becomes obsessed with her sexual fantasies. Hilary (Elizabeth Gracen) is an architect who has a lover who will not commit to her and she pours out her frustrations into her diary where she begs for her dream lover to rescue her. Craig (Jeff Yager) reads the diaries and takes her fantasies literally as he decides to become the man of Hilary's dreams. Director Peterson gets bogged down by several plot cliches and a highly unsatisfactory ending. Despite these flaws, Lower Level has many interesting moments and is worth a view. ~ Linda Rasmussen, All Movie Guide

In Marked for Death, Steven Seagal is told to "try to find the gentle person inside yourself." But he doesn't spend too much time looking, preferring instead to crack the spines of his victims. Seagal plays John Hatcher, a burned-out narcotics agent who resigns from the Drug Enforcement Administration after his partner is killed. He returns to his hometown and finds the city in the thrall of a vicious Jamaican drug gang, led by the nasty Screwface (Basil Wallace). He meets an old friend, now a high school football coach, who tells John about losing his best player and his 13-year-old nephew to drug overdoses. Soon John's family is threatened and his prize Mustang stolen, so John joins forces with his buddy to take on Screwface and the drug gang themselves. ~ Paul Brenner, All Movie Guide

Director Anthony Hickox (Waxwork) crafted this entertaining bit of horror-western fusion about the vampiric residents of a remote, dusty desert town who have chosen to derive their sustenance from a plasma-manufacturing plant in an attempt to put aside their monstrous nature and peacefully co-exist with humans. When the plant begins malfunctioning, the town's leaders summon the designer, David Harrison (Jim Metzler), to look into the problem. Soon after Harrison and his wife Sarah (Morgan Brittany) arrive, however, they find themselves in the thick of an escalating rivalry between two vampire factions -- one led by peaceful Count Mardulak (David Carradine), who ordered the blood plant as part of his plan to integrate the dying vampire race into human society; and the old-school bloodsuckers, under the sinister Jefferson (John Ireland), who consider Mardulak and his followers traitors to their predatory heritage. While the Harrisons' fates hang in the balance, the scales are jostled further by the arrival of a man named Van Helsing (Evil Dead star Bruce Campbell, in a surprisingly low-key performance), descendant of the legendary vampire hunter, whose disorganized efforts at wiping out town's undead populace are impeded by his growing attraction to a pretty young vampire (Deborah Foreman). With tongue firmly in cheek, this semi-parody plays off audiences' familiarity with the conventions of the vampire genre, but it seldom sacrifices creepiness and suspense when needed. It marked a creative step forward for Hickox (who would later stumble with Hellraiser III), who clearly tailors his projects to seasoned horror buffs. ~ Cavett Binion, All Movie Guide

When Claire (Linda Kozlowski) learns her grandmother has been bilked out of $50,000 by the crooked televangelists Ray (Tim Curry) and Darla Porter (Annie Potts), she recruits her redneck boyfriend Jesse (Bill Paxton) to help recover the money. They travel to the Tower of Bethlehem deep in the Arkansas woods to break into the studio and hold the hosts of the show hostage. This timely comedy came in the wake of scandals involving real-life televangelists Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker and Jimmy "I Have Sinned" Swaggert. Elizabeth Gracen makes her first series appearance as Amanda, the troublesome Immortal ex-girlfriend of Duncan MacLeod (Adrian Paul). A circus performer who moonlights as a cat burglar, Amanda has run afoul of her partner in crime, Zachary Blaine (Jason Isaacs), who intends to remove both her head and Duncan's. Slyly, Amanda plays Duncan and Blaine against each other for her own ill-gotten gain. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
