A devoted scientist and family woman finds her life suddenly jumping off the rails after making a shocking discovery about her sister's disheveled apartment. Anges is a woman who thrives on order: Her career is going well, her marriage to husband Walter is a happy one, and her relationship with adoring daughter Leni is a picture of motherly love. Though her career and personal life don't leave her as much time to spend with sister Karola as she would like, the pair get along like old friends and rarely quarrel. One day, Karola announces that she is going away for a while, and requests that Agnes water her plants in her absence. Upon visiting the apartment, Agnes observes that it appeared to be abandoned in haste. Gradually, Agnes begins to feel mysteriously drawn to the apartment, visiting on a regular basis and eventually assuming an air of ownership over the place. Upon discovering that the apartment in fact belongs to a married couple, Agnes begins to investigate. Apparently, the wife had died on her way to a rendezvous with her lover, and in his grief husband Bruno had simply abandoned the flat and moved on with his life. After falling asleep in the apartment one day, Agnes awakens to the touch of a man lying in bed beside her. It's Bruno. While the two nary exchange a glance, much less their names, they instinctively make love. But things start to change for Agnes once she begins to visit Bruno on a regular basis, and she begins to feel as if she is simply drifting as Bruno struggles to repress his grief. Her home life falling apart in the wake of her secret affair, Agnes begins to live with Bruno like normal lovers despite the fact that both release the ultimate futility of their clandestine relationship. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

A man taking part in a scientific study finds the fine line between play-acting and reality has been blurred beyond recognition in this taut drama. Tarek Fahd (Moritz Bleibtreu) is a journalist who is temporarily making ends meet by driving a taxi when he sees an advertisement offering 4,000 marks to people willing to submit to a psychological experiment. Intrigued, Tarek offers to take part in the study and persuades one of his former editors to help him work up a story about his experiences. Recording the events using a special high-tech video camera hidden in his glasses, Tarek arrives for the two-week experiment to discover half of the volunteers will pose as prison guards and the other half will be their prisoners. Before long the behavior of the subjects suggests more than just make-believe; "inmate" Tarek, in particular, is unwilling to take abuse from the "guards" and makes no secret of his contempt, while Berus (Justus VonDohnanyi) begins playing a dangerous game of cat-and-mouse with Tarek. Tarek, meanwhile, begins escaping reality by fantasizing about Dora (Maren Eggert), a woman with whom he had a brief fling before taking part in the experiment. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

A middle-aged man looking for adventure find himself engaged in an extended game of "musical beds" in this comedy. Linus (Stefan Suske) runs a bookshop and has just left his wife (Karin Kienzer), who is into tarot cards, and son, who is sunk in teenage depression, to head to Switzerland, where he's fallen for a sociologist named Christa (Anne Weber). While en route to Switzerland, Linus finds time to have a fling with Ka (Delia Mayer) -- and Christa has also been using her spare time profitably, in an assignation with Andre (Andre Jung). Franz (Markus Wolff), Linus's partner in the bookstore, discovers that he's drawn the attention of Christa's roommate Sybil (Manuela Biedermann), while Linus and Christa try to work out their differences -- just as Ka pops by unexpectedly to pay Linus a visit. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

Luxembourg, along with Belgium and the Netherlands, is considered to be one of the so-called Low Countries. Like them, this tiny nation is among the first to be invaded whenever there is trouble between any of their bigger neighbors. Being so small, it is a rare event when a feature film is made there. This movie, told from the point of view of the youngsters, follows the experiences of a Luxembourg family as the World War II German occupation of their country is beginning. Before the invasion, life seems to be good -- even idyllic. Soon afterwards, their neighbors begin disappearing mysteriously, and tension and worry are the usual expressions on everyone's faces. ~ Clarke Fountain, All Movie Guide
