The gruff, adamantium-clawed Marvel superhero Wolverine strikes out on his own in this X-Men spin-off starring series regular Hugh Jackman. The story gets under way as the boy who will become Wolverine makes a shocking discovery about his family bloodline, and gains a brother in the process. Flash forward to find the mutant siblings battling side by side through two world wars and Vietnam -- where they are sentenced to death for killing a commanding officer -- and Logan (Hugh Jackman) and his brother, Victor Creed (aka Sabretooth, played by Liev Schreiber), have joined a top-secret government task force. When their targets begin to include innocent civilians, conscientious Logan escapes to the Canadian Rockies, where he builds a home with pretty schoolteacher Kayla Silverfox (Lynn Collins). Informed by his old commanding officer William Stryker (Danny Huston) that the members of his old team are being targeted for death, Logan is heartbroken when Victor finds and kills Kayla. Vowing revenge, Logan agrees to take part in a dangerous experiment that will fuse his bones with a powerful metal alloy called adamantium, which makes him virtually indestructible and gives him the strength needed to defeat his powerful brother. Subsequently betrayed by Stryker, Logan (now Wolverine) sets out to find his blood-lusting brother and stop the cycle of violence once and for all. Along the way, the temperamental hero is joined by fellow mutants John Wraith (Will.i.Am) and Remy LeBeau (aka Gambit, played by Taylor Kitsch). The childhood friendship between four lifelong friends is unexpectedly rekindled after one of them kills a notorious drug dealer and the rest of the group conspires to cover up the crime. Beer-guzzling widower Bobby Stork was locked into a downward spiral of depression when he ran across his old pal Mark Van Houten -- an unemployed doctor who now pays the bills by cooking up crystal meth. Upon relaying Mark's dilemma to their mutual friends, uptight Laith Rukkab and expectant father Hutto, the three pals agree that they need to snap their old friend back to reality before it's too late. In order to do so, Bobby, Laith, and Hutto agree to present Mark with the throwing stars that the four friends used to play with back when they were kids. Mark's best customer is a notorious drug dealer and animal porn producer named Reed, and when Laith and Bobby pass Reed's car on the way to deliver the throwing stars, they can't resist the opportunity to free the unwilling "actors" that are locked inside. But somehow, in the midst of the confusion, Laith drops one of the throwing stars in Reed's car.

Enraged by the break-in and infuriated by the fact that Mark hasn't finished cooking up his latest batch of meth, Reed notices a throwing star on Mark's table and assumes that he's found the person responsible for the break-in. In a fit of rage, Reed tries to murder Mark. But Mark is armed with a throwing star, and somehow manages to kill his attacker with a well-aimed throw. With precious little time to loose before the authorities catch on, Bobby, Laith, and Hutto go to work in helping get rid of the evidence and cook up a foolproof alibi. But these kind of cover-ups rarely go off without a hitch, and over the course of this eventful night these four friends will be forced to contend with an especially mischievous monkey as they each come to some startling realizations about the unexpected directions that their lives have taken as of late. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

The sheltered life of a Vermont orphan is suddenly thrown into chaos with the appearance of a beautiful and free-spirited New York artist in this coming of age drama from four-time Emmy nominee Lee Shallat Chemel. JP Barton was just an infant when he was found by the elderly owner of a rustic family resort in Vermont, and over the years he has hardly ever ventured off the grounds. A man fights to bring decency and the rule of law back to his hometown in this action drama. Chris Vaughn (The Rock) left his home in Washington State's timber country to join the Army, where he distinguished himself as a member of the Special Forces. When his hitch is over, Vaughn decides to return home to help run the family business, a sawmill, but he soon makes the unpleasant discovery that things aren't what they once were. Vaughn learns that the town's lumber industry has all but dried up, and an old high school buddy, Jay Hamilton (Neal McDonough), has turned the city into a den of vice, running a large gambling casino and strip club while selling drugs and women on the side. Angry at this turn of events, and frustrated by local law enforcement officials who are willing to ignore Hamilton's crimes in exchange for kickbacks, Vaughn decides to run for sheriff, and with the help of another old friend, Ray Templeton (Johnny Knoxville), he wins the election. But Hamilton doesn't take kindly to Vaughn's attempts to clean up the town, and Vaughn discovers Hamilton's henchmen are willing to target his friends, his family, and the woman he loves (Ashley Scott) in order to have their way. Walking Tall was based on Phil Karlson's 1973 action hit of the same name, which was in turn inspired by the true story of Buford Pusser, who was sheriff of Tennessee's McNairy County between 1964 and 1970 and gained fame for his tough tactics against the local criminal element. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

During an acute shortage of surgeons, Greene (Anthony Edwards) performs a delicate operation while receiving instructions via intercom hookup with Corday (Alex Kingston). In this comic drama about fame, sports, and small-town life, Mystery, Alaska is a small town in one of the least accessible parts of the coldest state in the union. It's a town where everyone knows each other and there isn't much to do. In places like this, small things tend to become very important, and in Mystery, the one thing that keeps everyone sane is hockey. Most of the men of Mystery are obsessive hockey fans, and a local hockey league has sprung up, with pools of neighborhood talent facing off on the ice every week. When a national sports magazine does a story on the hockey fans of Mystery, Alaska, someone at the National Hockey League gets an idea for a publicity stunt: send the New York Rangers to Mystery to play the local all-stars in a nationally televised game. Most of the locals are thrilled; the game will give the people of Mystery a chance to bask in the limelight and make their sleepy town a household word. On the other hand, in a small town where everyone knows everyone else's secrets, this event could cause everyone to start airing their dirty laundry in public, with the whole world watching. Mystery, Alaska was directed by Jay Roach, who enjoyed considerable success with the two Austin Powers films, and stars Russell Crowe as John Biebe, Mary McCormack as his wife Donna, Burt Reynolds as Judge Burns, and Lolita Davidovich as Mary Jane. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide
