Cole Sprouse Movies

It would be difficult to land a more preternatural start to acting than American Cole Sprouse. An identical twin, the fair-haired Cole reportedly commenced television appearances as early as six months old, when he and brother Dylan were jointly cast as Patrick Kelly, the eight-month-old son of acid-mouthed oil-refinery worker Grace Kelly (Brett Butler) in the popular ABC sitcom Grace Under Fire. After that program's cancellation in 1998, the Sprouses signed to appear opposite funnyman Adam Sandler in his 1999 comedy Big Daddy, directed by Dennis Dugan. In that vehicle, the then-five-year-old twins play Julian, a little boy adopted by misfit and loser Sonny Koufax (Sandler), who hopes to prove to his estranged girlfriend that he's capable of juggling "adult" responsibilities.

As they aged, the twins branched out into separate roles and careers. The divergence began around 2000, when Cole Sprouse signed (sans his other half) to play Ben, the school-age son of Ross Geller (David Schwimmer), in several episodes of the blockbuster sitcom Friends. In 2001, the Sprouses reunited onscreen (and re-teamed with Adam Sandler) to voice the K-B Toys Soldiers in Sandler's animated holiday comedy Adam Sandler's Eight Crazy Nights. From this point on, the Sprouses typically appeared together (as -- surprise -- brothers!) in lieu of playing the same role interchangeably. For example, they portrayed soccer-playing twins in the family-friendly 2003 comedy Just 4 Kicks, directed by Farrelly Brothers collaborator Sidney Bartholomew Jr. The brothers hit a zenith of sorts with their 2005 sitcom The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, in which they play a couple of wiseacre twins who reside in a Beantown hotel and wreak all sorts of havoc there. Bit roles in Hannah Montana, Wizards of Waverly Place, and Wizards on Deck with Hannah Montana followed after The Suite Life with Zack and Cody went off the air in 2008, and after reteaming with Dylan for The Suite Life on Deck that same year, the siblings stuck together for The Suite Life Movie in 2011. ~ Nathan Southern, Rovi

A poor boy who spends most his spare time playing stickball in the streets suddenly finds himself returning volleys to his butler in this contemporary take on the classic Mark Twain tale starring Cole and Dylan Sprouse. Running away to the east side in his chauffer-driven limousine, thirteen year old Matthew hatches an ingenious identity-switch scheme after running into his spitting image - a fun-loving inner city youth named Jeff. Intent on making his mother pay for a series of minor infractions he may have been responsible for while studying at an ultra-posh boy's academy, Matthew sends Jeff to live with his self-made millionaire mother as he prepares to spend Spring Break with his new stepfather and two stepsisters. While Jeff is dumbfounded to discover that stores actually sell clothes that have never been worn before, Matthew is thrilled to take the field for his first rain-soaked baseball game. Yet despite the fun these two kids have on the opposite side of the social spectrum, they quickly learn that life just isn't the same when you can't go home to your true loved ones. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Actress and filmmaker Asia Argento directed this faithful screen adaptation of the fictional J.T. Leroy's fictional memoir, which documents a boy's truly harrowing road to adulthood. Jeremiah (Jimmy Bennett) is the seven-year-old son of Sarah (Asia Argento), an unstable and unwed mother who abandoned her son and left him to be raised by foster parents. Jeremiah has come to love his guardians, and is devastated when Sarah arrives at their doorstep, demanding her child back. Threatening Jeremiah with torture if he tries to run away, Sarah introduces her young son to drugs and encourages her one-night-stand paramours to help "discipline" her son when she feels his behavior is inappropriate. Sarah marries a man named Emerson (Jeremy Renner), but abandons him shortly afterward; Emerson responds by molesting Jeremiah, and soon the child is left in the care of his grandparents (Peter Fonda and Ornella Muti), members of a fundamentalist Christian sect which emphasizes child discipline that's strict to the point of abuse. After three years, Sarah returns with a new husband, Kenny (Matt Schulze), and takes Jeremiah (now played by Dylan Sprouse and Cole Sprouse) with her; Kenny spends most of his time on the road as a trucker, and Sarah supports the family at home as a stripper and a prostitute. Sarah also begins dressing her son is girl's clothing, which excites the perverse appetites of Sarah's latest boyfriend, Jackson (Marilyn Manson); she soon leaves Jackson and pairs off with Chester (Jeremy Sisto), a biker with a dangerous way of making a living. The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Things premiered at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival, where it was screened as part of the "Directors Fortnight" series. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

Come celebrate the joy and togetherness of the Hanukkah season with Adam Sandler -- yeah, that Adam Sandler -- in this raucous animated comedy written and produced in collaboration with the noted funnyman. Davey Stone (voice of Adam Sandler) is a twentysomething man with a short temper and a reputation for causing trouble who lives in the small New England town of Dukesberry. Davey has a particularly bad attitude about the holiday season, and on the first night of Hanukkah, he goes on a tear that lands him in front of a judge (voice of Norm Crosby). The judge, who has dealt with Davey before, is prepared to send him to prison, but Whitey (also voiced by Sandler), an eccentric but kindly old man, persuades the judge to give him a chance to turn Davey into a more responsible citizen. Davey doesn't think much of Whitey's charitable nature, but when his trailer home burns down, he's forced to move in with Whitey and his perpetually nervous sister, Eleanore (also voiced by Sandler...spotting a trend here?). Between Whitey and Eleanore's nonstop kvetching and the reappearance of his old girlfriend Jennifer (voice of Jackie Titone), Davey is being driven to distraction by the Hanukkah season, but in time Whitey learns the truth about why Davey has such a problem with the Festival of Lights. Adam Sandler's Eight Crazy Nights also includes eight new songs co-written by Sandler; he duets with bluegrass star Alison Krauss on "Long Ago." ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

Overhearing his parents Stephanie and David Carver having a heated argument, young Justin Carver (Cole Sprouse) retreats to his bedroom. A few minutes later, Justin peeks downstairs, only to see his mother Stephanie (Connie Sellecca) locked in a warm, romantic embrace with none other than Santa Claus. Unaware that mom's hirsute "lover" is actually his own father, David (Corbin Bernsen), who has dressed up as Santa in hopes of getting back in Stephanie's good graces, Justin is convinced that his parents' marriage is on the rocks -- just like the recently shattered union of his best friend's parents. Further convinced that jolly old Saint Nick is the cause of all the marital disharmony, little Justin goes on a one-boy vendetta, physically assaulting every department-store and sidewalk Santa who crosses his path. Very loosely based on the 1949 hit song of the same name, the made-for-TV I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus first aired December 9, 2001, on the PAX network. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Prospective parents everywhere, meet the world's least likely paternal role model: Adam Sandler! In Big Daddy, Sandler plays 30-year-old bachelor Sonny Koufax, a carefree slob who has never much taken to adult responsibilities; he works one day a week as a tollbooth collector, and spends the remainder of his time living off of a $200,000 reward he collected from an auto accident. All told, the life suits him just fine. However, as his old buddies start getting married and drifting away, Sonny realizes that if he doesn't do something soon, he could end up all alone for the rest of his life. When his most recent girlfriend, Vanessa (Kristy Swanson), indicates that she needs some time off because she's sick of being with a man who can't act like a grown-up, he decides that it's time to take drastic action to win her back. Conveniently enough, a little boy named Julian (Cole Sprouse and Dylan Sprouse) turns up on his doorstep, claiming that he's the biological son of Sonny's roommate and friend from law school, Kevin (Jon Stewart). The kid tells Sonny that he's from Buffalo, New York; Kevin has never been to Buffalo, New York, but no matter - Sonny foresees, in Julian, an opportunity to convince Vanessa that he can face adult responsibilities. He thus takes charge of the little boy over a long Columbus Day weekend, pretending to be Kevin. However, the plan doesn't work as expected, and the authorities hone in on a discovery of Sonny's real identity. Meanwhile, Sonny finds himself genuinely drawn to the tyke. Also supporting Sandler in Big Daddy are Joey Lauren Adams, Josh Mostel and Rob Schneider. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi
