This political thriller/fantasy takes place in Venezuela in 1960. In the story, an unlikely crew of leftist conspirators had decided that the only way to get the kind of government they want to see their country have is to assassinate the politically moderate President Romulo Betancourt (1908-1981), who has just returned to office after a long period during which the country was under a military dictatorship. ~ Clarke Fountain, Rovi

Alejandro Saderman directed this Venezuelan-German-U.S. thriller, set during a nationwide financial scandal, about four stressed-out, middle-class guys in desperate financial straits. Their solution is a robbery of the state-run Pan-American Bank. Arriving shortly after the New Year, adman Horacio (Orlando Urdaneta) and childhood pals Valmore (Daniel Lugo), Rogelio (Aroldo Betacourt), and Vicente (Mariano Alvarez) quickly discover that the bank has been victimized in a fake robbery by its own president. Further, accountant Pujol (Armando Gota) managed to beat them to the bank. After the gang mistakes the filming of a TV commercial for TV news cameras, the determined policeman Gomez Lira (Manuel Salazar) and other cops surround the building. Despite the police presence, Horacio successfully cracks the computer code, adds hostages to the heist happening, and finds time for some romance -- as a party atmosphere begins to pervade the stand-off. Shown at the 1998 Toronto Film Festival. ~ Bhob Stewart, Rovi

Antonio Campos (Flavio Caballero) has a relatively straightforward job in Venezuela's oil industry. He certainly isn't living in the fast lane. He's just a production chief. That is, not until he makes an eye-catching commercial promoting the country's oil business. Then the high-living publicist Aroldo Benavides (Daniel Lopez) takes him under his wing, and suddenly he is flying with Aroldo in helicopters to other countries on the spur of the moment just for a lobster party. When he finally has a moment to reflect, he discovers that his life has not been improved by his sudden involvement with the party-crowd. ~ Clarke Fountain, Rovi
