Emma's first birthday is the occasion for a big party, complete with a bunny-shaped cake. The trouble begins when Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) decides that the cake -- which is in a "shape" all right, but is nothing like a bunny -- would be more appropriate for a bachelorette party. As it happens, the party may never come off, since none of Rachel's friends have shown up, preoccupied as they are with either working or trying to avoid work. ~ Rovi
- Starring:
- Elliott Gould, Christina Pickles, (more)
Denise Richards guest stars as Cassie, the visiting cousin of Ross (David Schwimmer) and Monica (Courteney Cox). Cassie is a "looker," no question about, and those doing the most looking -- and longing -- are Ross' friends Joey (Matt LeBlanc) and Chandler (Matthew Perry)...not to mention Ross himself. Meanwhile, Monica's upcoming bridal shower necessitates an eleventh-hour brainstorming session by her pals Rachel (Lisa Kudrow) and Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow). And Joey may not have the right "equipment" for a nude scene in an upcoming movie. ~ Rovi

This miniseries details the complex real-life relationship between Thomas Jefferson (Sam Neill), author of the Declaration of Independence and his slave Sally Hemings (Carmen Ejogo). Fuelled by recent DNA evidence of the Hemings-Jefferson relationship, the miniseries sidesteps much of Jefferson's political life and instead focuses on the love story. Though she acquired her freedom at age 16 while traveling with Jefferson to France, she faithfully remained with her lover throughout his life in spite of emotional consequences to both her brother and her children -- who were doomed to be sold as slaves. ~ Jonathan Crow, Rovi
- Starring:
- Sam Neill, Carmen Ejogo, (more)
In the first of three Emmy-winning Friends guest appearances, Bruce Willis is cast as Paul, the father of Ross' college-student girlfriend, Elizabeth (Alexandra Holden). Not surprisingly, Paul admonishes Ross (David Schwimmer) for dating a girl that is much younger than himself. Also not surprisingly, given the usual plot twists and reversals seen on this series, Paul neglects to practice what he preaches when he falls for Rachel (Jennifer Aniston). And elsewhere, Joey (Matt LeBlanc) is poised to mess up his latest showbiz break, as star of the tacky sci-fi TV show "Mac and C.H.E.E.S.E." ~ Rovi
- Starring:
- Bruce Willis, Alexandra Holden, (more)
Having been "at liberty" for too long a period, Joey (David Schwimmer) loses his Screen Actors' Guild health insurance -- just as he injures himself during an audition. Ross' (David Schwimmer) opportunity to lecture at NYU proves to be more rewarding than he expected, but strange complications await him vis-à-vis his quickie Vegas marriage to Rachel (Jennifer Aniston). And Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow) is given a disturbing peek into the future by her psychic -- whose own future isn't in very good shape either. ~ Rovi
- Starring:
- June Gable, Ron Glass, (more)
On suspension from his job at the museum, Ross (David Schwimmer) turns to Joey (Matt LeBlanc) for advice on how to adjust to unemployment -- then suggests that Joey write an autobiographical movie script. Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow) is driven to the verge of nastiness by her experiences while working for the Salvation Army. And while on a date with Rachel's (Jennifer Aniston) latest heartthrob, Danny (George Newbern), Monica (Courteney Cox) makes a disturbing discovery regarding Danny's sister Krista (Julie Lauren). ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
Ross (David Schwimmer) is terrified by the behavior of Rachel's (Jennifer Aniston) date, Tommy (Ben Stiller), during the opening of Joey's play; trouble is, Ross is the only one who witnesses that behavior. As for Joey (Matt LeBlanc), his romance with co-star Kate (Dina Meyer) hits a professional snag. And Phoebe's (Lisa Kudrow) efforts to extend her phone warranty are literally put on hold. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) dates a guy named Russ who looks a lot like Ross (both played by David Schwimmer) -- at least he does to everyone except Rachel. Meanwhile Monica's (Courteney Cox) date with former beau Fun Bobby (Vincent Ventresca) has plenty of Bobby but no fun now that he doesn't drink. And Joey (Matt LeBlanc) may have to perform a special service to land an important role on Days of Our Lives. Five points to anyone who can figure out the final credits. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
Whatever Joey's (Matt LeBlanc) shortcomings as a roommate, he was a prince among men compared to Chandler's (Matthew Perry) bizarre new roomie, Eddie (Adam Goldberg). Ordered to leave, Eddie agrees, then claims he's forgotten all about the agreement. Elsewhere, Joey has to adjust to the fact that his soap opera stardom -- and the commensurate hefty salary -- is a thing of the past. And after reading the self-empowerment book "Be Your Own Windkeeper," the girls feel that a "goddess meeting" is in order. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
Ross' ex-wife, Carol (Jane Sibbett), goes into labor, leading to a heated "I'm more help to her!" confrontation between Ross (David Schwimmer) and Carol's girlfriend, Susan (Jessica Hecht). In her efforts to end the argument, Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow) performs a reverse procedure of sorts by dragging Susan back into the closet. Meanwhile, Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) learns more than she wants to about the OB-GYN (Jonathan Silverman) she likes, Joey (Matt LeBlanc) assists in another birth, and Monica (Courteney Cox) broods and broods. June Gable, normally cast as Joey's agent, Estelle, is here seen as a nurse. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
The new Al Pacino picture is in need of a "stunt butt," giving Joey (Matt LeBlanc) his first -- er -- crack at the big time. Monica (Courteney Cox) tries to prove that she is spontaneous and wacky, but her friends aren't buying. And Chandler's (Matthew Perry) problem involves his new lady friend, Aurora (Sofia Milos), a married woman with very kinky tastes. June Gable makes her first series appearance as Joey's agent, Estelle. The DVD version of this episode includes material not available in the syndicated version. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
Jamie (Helen Hunt) feels too bad to see a feel-good movie. Still, Paul (Paul Reiser) persuades her to accompany him to the theater, if for no other reason than to meet Ira's (John Pankow) new sweetie. Not only do things go to hell in a hand basket, but waitress Ursula Buffay (Lisa Kudrow) isn't at Riff's anymore (try looking for her on Friends). All this, plus an important message from the mayor of the city of New York. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
Brook Shields plays the comic-strip journalist, Brenda Starr, who travels to a South American jungle on an assignment. It is there that she covers the story about a mad scientist who plans to blow up the planet with his newly developed rocket fuel. Also appearing are Timothy Dalton and Charles Durning, among others, who don Bob Mackie-designed costumes. ~ Kristie Hassen, Rovi
