Tyler Labine Movies
Burly and heavyset American character actor Tyler Labine began his career with guest-oriented bit parts on television series during the early '90s, and ultimately parlayed this success into occasional, low-key film appearances. Though Labine's parts frequently took advantage of his build -- for example, his portrayal of Little John in the 1996 picture Robin of Locksley, and his evocation of the late John Belushi in the telemovie Behind the Camera: The Unauthorized Story of Mork & Mindy (2005) -- he also demonstrated an adeptness for sinking into "everyman" roles -- such as his slicked-back fighter pilot Briggs Lowry in Tony Bill's period epic Flyboys (2006). Labine also lent supporting roles to the 2002 series That Was Then (as Donnie Pinkus) and the 2005 series Invasion (as conspiracy theorist and UFO expert Dave Groves). In 2006, he could be seen on the hit legal dramedy Boston Legal as an assistant district attorney, and the next year he was cast on the quirky supernatural drama Reaper. An arrested adolescent hell-bent on good times decides to throw a different sort of bash in this comedy. Eric (Jason Sudeikis) is in his early thirties, but he hasn't changed much since his high school days -- the guy lives to party with a handful of his old friends, and the crazier the get-together, the better. Every summer, Eric throws an epic-scale theme party at his parents' home in the Hamptons, as he and his pals get crazy at the "White Trash Bash" or a "Star Wars vs. Star Trek" throwdown. However, this grand tradition is about to end, as Eric's dad (Don Johnson) has announced he's selling the house. Eric decides he should save the biggest party for last, and tells his friends he's hosting an orgy. While Eric and his male friends are just thick-headed enough not to see the problems inherent in having group sex with some of their best friends, the gals in their social circle are more hesitant, but most decide to sign on, at least in principle. However, Eric has become infatuated with Kelly (Leslie Bibb), the attractive real-estate agent who is selling the house, and decides to invite her to the big blowout without telling her just what kind of party she can expect. A computer programmer whose love for internet porn just cost him his latest girlfriend struggles to keep his sexual hang-up in check while ensuring that his company doesn't go dark during the Y2K changeover in director Cameron Leabine's kinky romantic dot-comedy. The year is 1999. Lewis (Tyler Labine) is a computer programmer whose appetite for internet smut is insatiable - a peccadillo that doesn't go unrecognized by his neglected girlfriend Sarah (Laura Bertram). Upon being dumped by Sarah, Lewis finds his sexual addition becoming much more tactile. Now that there's no flesh to interfere, Lewis is free to become more intimate with his silicon sweetheart than ever before. But the man known as "Magneto" to his online friends is about to find his burgeoning digital romance interrupted thanks to more pressing issues at work. Lewis has been recruited to prepare his department for Y2K, and should he fail the entire East Coast could be left in the dark. As the dawn of the new millennium approaches, the perverse programmer finds himself increasingly attracted to some of the newer models around the office. In order to avert any direct suspicion, Lewis asks new office receptionist Jane (Sonja Bennett) out on a date. In an era distinguished by popular TV series in which the heroes are the villains (The Sopranos, The Shield), it should surprise no one that the most charming and likeable character in the CW comedy-drama series Reaper was the Devil Himself. The story got under way when 20-year-old slacker Sam Oliver (Bret Harrison), one of the least stellar employees at his local Work Bench home-improvement store, finally found out why his parents (Allison Hossack, Andrew Arlie) had always allowed him to goof off and drift aimlessly through life while simultaneously demanding so much from his overachieving kid brother Keith (Kyle Switzer). It turned out that Mom and Dad felt guilty about selling Sam's soul to the Devil (Ray Wise), before the boy had even been born. Once Sam turned 21, up popped the Devil again, demanding that our hero immediately go to work for him--or else. Sam's new job was as a Satanic "bounty hunter", tracking down and recapturing souls who'd managed to escape from Hell. Since the people whom Sam hunted down richly deserved eternal damnation, and since the immacuately-dressed Devil was such a warm, personable guy, Sam found his new assignment a lot more stimulating than his customary duties at the Work Bench. He even managed to enlist his best friends and coworkers Sock (Tyler Labine) and Ben (Rick Gonzalez) as his helpers, and to persuade Sock's ex-girlfriend, paralegal Josie (Valarie Rae Miller), to do the necessary research work on each "fallen demon". At the same time, Sam had to keep his "mission" a secret from his earthly boss Ted (Donovan Stinson) and his erstwhile girlfriend Andi (Missy Peregrym). As anyone with even a nodding acquaintance with Star Trek can tell you, the (future) birthplace of Captain James T. Kirk is Riverside, Iowa. But how many of those people could tell that there really is a Riverside, Iowa, population 928? It is this cozy little farming community that serves as the locale of the four-part Spike TV reality series, Invasion Iowa. Imagine the surprise and delight of the Riverside citizenry when William Shatner himself shows up in town, ostensibly to film a big-budget sci-fi epic titled "Invasion Iowa," in which he is to star as "Colonel Shane Yeager." And not only Shatner, but a veritable army of filmmakers likewise descend upon Riverside, including Shatner's personal "spiritual advisor" Steve, short-tempered female studio executive Max, vainglorious leading lady Gryffyn, clumsy production assistant Herb, and Shatner's body double (and favorite nephew), Tiny. As the people of Riverside open their hearts, their homes and their businesses to the visitors from Hollywood, not a single one of them suspects that the entire affair is a hoax: there is no film in production called "Invasion Iowa" -- and except for Shatner, the movie personnel are all phonies! Of course, this being Spike TV, the cruel deception is played for all it is worth (and the worth is considerable!), climaxing with the episode in which we get to savor the reactions of the locals when they find out they've been hoodwinked. The ABC series That Was Then was a less comic variation on the premise of the like-vintage WB sitcom Do Over. James Bulliard starred as Travis Glass, a 29-year-old salesman who was still living with his parents. A perennial loser, Travis would give anything to return to his youth and correct past mistakes; more specifically, he would like to correct the glaring social error which drove his high-school sweetheart Claudia (Kiele Sanchez) into the arms of Travis' obnoxious brother Gregg (Brad Raider). Then on the eve of his 30th birthday, while listening to the Kinks' "Do It Again," Travis was miraculously thrust back to the year 1988 -- thereby getting his chance to use the knowledge and the experience gleaned in adulthood to straighten out the life of his "teenaged" self. True to its title, Evil Alien Conquerors involves the efforts of Matheson and Parnell's bickering characters to eliminate every member of the human race, out of fear that they themselves will be annihilated by The Croker, a giant monster intent on intergalactic domination. MTV's first made-for-TV movie, 2Gether: The Original Movie, is a hilarious and sometimes touching send-up of the "boy band" phenomenon of the '90s. When rock manager Bob Buss (Alan Blumenfeld) is fired by the studio-created boy group Whoa!, he decides to get even by creating another band from the ground up. After discovering young Jerry O'Keefe (Evan Farmer) singing in the streets, Buss builds his new group around O'Keefe's natural talents. Adhering to the standard music-industry clichés, Buss' pre-fab creation, 2gether, consists of "The Lead Singer" (O'Keefe), "The Bad Boy" Mickey Parke, "The Cute One" Q.T. McKnight, "The Shy One" Chad Linus, and "The Older Brother," who happens to be Chad's older brother Doug Linus. Whipping them into shape in but a few days, Buss prepares 2gether for their big-time debut in Jacksonville -- as the opening act for Whoa! Several MTV personalities, notably the ubiquitous Carson Daly, appear as themselves. In true "life imitates art" fashion, 2gether briefly became an honest-to-goodness pop sensation, turning out several popular tunes, a well-circulated music video, and a weekly TV series. Just how far should one man go to stay ahead of his competition? Milo Hoffmann (Ryan Phillippe) is a young and gifted computer software designer who with his close friend Teddy is about to launch a high-tech start-up firm based on Milo's inventive ideas in convergence, in which he's helping to create new ways for different forms of digital technology to work in harmony. However, before Milo and Teddy can get their company off the ground, Milo receives a very tempting offer from Gary Winston (Tim Robbins), a trailblazing genius in the digital world who has turned his company N.U.R.V. (which stands for "Never Underestimate Radical Vision") into one of the richest and most powerful computer firms on Earth. Screenwriter Arne Olsen makes his directorial debut in this comedy that explores the real meaning of youth and age. Owen Rinard (Eric McCormack) is the thirty-something manager of a Canadian retirement home who watches over his charges with an eagle eye and has a strong belief in rules and regulations. However, Gus Corley (James Whitmore), one of the residents at the home, isn't especially enthusiastic about Owen's iron rule, and wants to go on a fishing trip to Victoria, British Columbia. Owen has no interest in organizing outings for the patients, but when Gus, a former accountant, learns a few secrets about the current state of the books at the home, he makes Owen an offer he can't turn down -- either escort him and his friends Duncan (Ossie Davis) and Nelly (Kim Hunter) to Victoria for a vacation, or he'll tell the authorities about the irregularities in the accounts. Soon a very wary Owen is on the road with Gus, Duncan, and Nelly, and the younger man learns a few important lessons from his elders about the joy of living. Owen Walters (Bill Switzer) is a terminally ill 12-year-old boy. Owen has developed a special bond with his somewhat eccentric next-door neighbor, Mr. Rice (David Bowie), who opens Owen's mind to ideas of philosophy. Sadly, Mr. Rice dies. But Owen discovers that Mr. Rice, in the days before his death, prepared an elaborate treasure hunt that only Owen, if he uses all the planted clues, can find. Dark Angel begins its two-season run with a feature-length episode establishing both characters and premise. Back in the year 2009, young Max Guevara (Geneva Locke) escaped from Manticore, a sinister laboratory creating human prototypes with heavy doses of animal DNA. A lab creation herself, Max managed to get away with several of her "siblings" from Manticore's X-5 program. Now it is 2019: The world is in turmoil in the wake of "The Pulse," a seismic phenomenon which destroyed all computer technology. The 19-year-old Max (Jessica Alba) lives in a crime-ridden ghetto with a group of alienated teens and dopers, working as a bicycle messenger by day and a cat burglar by night. (And why not? Max's cat DNA has endowed her with superhuman strength and agility.) She pulls this "double shift" in order to finance an ongoing search for the secrets of her past, and for her genetically engineered brothers and sisters. Enter scruffy cyberjournalist Logan Cale (Michael Weatherly), a crusader against the corruption that has engulfed the government and its police. Persuading Max to join his cause, Logan gives her her first assignment: to guard a federal witness and her daughter. It turns out that New Jersey isn't the only hockey team tied in with the Devils in this made-for-TV comedy produced for The Disney Channel. Ms. Beezlebub (Rhea Perlman) runs a vocational school in Hades for demons in training, and she decides that it's time for one of her students, Grifflekin (Will Friedle), to head up to the surface for his first assignment. Dave Heinrich (Matthew Lawrence) is a rising star in professional hockey whose team appears poised to win the Stanley Cup. It's Grifflekin's job to get Dave to sign over his soul, but as he gets to know the young player, he's not sure if he wants to betray his new friend. His uncertainty isn't eased by fellow apprentice demon Gabby (Gabrielle Union), who has been sent along to keep tabs on Grifflekin.
