Melrose Place star Jamie Luner takes a dark turn in director Douglas Jackson's tale of a once-perfect bride who is transformed by circumstance into a predatory black widow. Annie (Luner) was once a happily married woman. Annie's life to an unexpectedly dark turn, however, when devious con-man Brent convinced her to do away with her husband so the murderous lovers could split the inheritance. Foolishly thinking that Brent would be faithful, Annie is pushed over the edge when Brent blows through the money and starts sleeping around. When Annie realizes just how far she has fallen and begins to see her reprehensible lover for the monster he truly is, she packs her bags and sets off to marry wealthy real-estate heir Richard. This big-budget science fiction adventure centers on a final battle between good and evil for control of the world. In the year 3000, Earth is ruled by the Psyclos, a vicious alien race of which Terl (John Travolta) is a member, that has laid waste to the planet, killed the majority of the population, and stripped Earth of its valuable resources. Pockets of resistance remain among the surviving humans; Jonnie "Goodboy" Tyler (Barry Pepper) is one such rebel, living in hiding in the mountains near Boulder, CO. Eventually, Johnny begins organizing like-minded humans for a final stand against the Psyclos. The film is based on the novel by L. Ron Hubbard, the science fiction author also known as the founder of the Church of Scientology; it covers only the first half of the book, saving the remainder for a possible sequel. This made-for-TV fantasy thriller was adapted from the television series The Crow: Stairway to Heaven, which was in turn inspired by the 1994 film The Crow. Eric Draven (Mark Dacascos) is a musician who was thoughtlessly murdered. One year after his death, Draven returns to life as a member of the undead, and with a crow as his spirit guide, he sets out to see justice done against those who would wrong others. Since Draven is not alive, he can absorb whatever punishment his adversaries offer him, and with the help of his friend Sarah (Katie Stuart), this troubled hero makes it his business to vanquish evil and support the forces of good. This action film concerns Jim Paradine (Miles O'Keeffe), a stressed-out Miami Beach policeman who goes to the mountains to visit his friend Eli (Frank Fontaine), a local cop. While he's there, Paradine runs into the gang of crooks who murdered his family two years before and left him for dead. Peter Colvey and Jason Cavalier are the homicidal brothers, and Lynne Adams is their lesbian sister. The gang swipes a $2 million payroll from mountain loggers and kills a lot of people (including Eli), only to have the vengeful, crossbow-toting Paradine and local sheriff Mantee (Fred Williamson) come after them. A snowmobile flies off a mountain, a man dangling from a cliff is blown up with a grenade, and the film is packed with enough violence and nudity to satisfy genre fans, despite a somewhat lacklustre leading turn by O'Keeffe (Tarzan, the Ape Man). ~ Robert Firsching, Rovi
