The premise of John Ford's seminal 1956 western The Searchers is by now iconic - it details the attempts of racist and psychologically beleaguered Ethan Edwards (John Wayne) to hunt down his kidnapped daughter, Debbie) (Natalie Wood), whom he initially intends to kill given the racial "defilement" that her perceives in her. The motion picture influenced a panoply of American films, from Taxi Driver to Hardcore, and receives an official update in this independently-produced effort by tyro director Jason Wulfsohn. Tracing Cowboys brings audiences a new Ethan (Sacha Grunpeter), this one a Briton with musical ambitions. He nurtures dreams of country and western superstardom, but gets waylaid by his search for his girlfriend Debbie, who apparently sought refuge and asylum in a Mexican small town. Thus begins a cross-country odyssey for Ethan that witnesses him journeying to the said village - a trip that enables Wulfsohn's film to reflect on such themes as betrayal, romantic devotion, obsession and self-myth. ~ Nathan Southern, All Movie Guide

The new girl in town is 16-year-old Jacey Jeffries (Danielle Panabaker), who lives with her divorced mother, Terry (Mercedes Ruehl), and her two siblings. A popular and highly intelligent student, not to mention a talented athlete, Jacey nonetheless seems to be harboring a private, profound sadness -- or at least that's the perception of her high-school guidance counselor, Donna Cooper (Jane Krakowski). Ultimately Donna figures out the truth behind Jacey's melancholia: her baby "brother" Charlie is actually her own son, born out of wedlock and raised by Jacey's overbearing mother in a misguided effort to shield her daughter from disgrace. Upon discovering Jacey's secret, Donna takes a special interest in the girl's welfare -- an interest undoubtedly fueled by the fact that Donna herself is unable to have children. The scenes taking place in the sex-education class have an air of reality often lacking in made-for-TV films, due to the fact that the young actors playing the students were encouraged to improvise their dialogue. Produced for the Lifetime cable network, Mom at Sixteen first aired on March 21, 2005. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

This third installment in the meretricious Poison Ivy series explores a different branch of Ivy family tree. Jaime Pressly stars as Violet, sister of Ivy, who returns to the home of the Greer family. As little girls, Violet and Ivy were traumatized when they were forcibly taken away from the Greer home and their best friend Joy -- after their housekeeper mother was discovered in an affair with the head of the household, Ivan Greer (Michael Des Barres). Now it's eleven years later and the widower Ivan, his grown-up daughter Joy (Trishalee Hardy) and new housekeeper Mrs. B (Susan Tyrrell) welcome the gorgeous, post-adolescent Violet back with open arms. Just like her sister, however, Violet is a scheming tramp and home-wrecker. She quickly shares cocaine and sleeps with Joy's sexually frustrated boyfriend Michael (Greg Vaughan) and seduces Ivan with a topless dip in the pool. When those around her begin to suspect that Violet has less than honorable intentions, she turns homicidal, murdering the Greers one by one, to Joy's horror. ~ Karl Williams, All Movie Guide
