Gina Philips Movies
The intense, dark-eyed Gina Philips, known for her role as the reproachful Jenna Miller on Boston Public, was born Gina Consolo on May 10, 1975. She was born in Miami Beach, FL, and attended the University of Pennsylvania for a few years before dropping out in pursuit of a career in acting. In addition to her full-time role on Boston Public, Philips made numerous other television appearances on shows like Ally McBeal, Sliders, and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. In Born Into Exile (1997), a made-for-TV movie about two lovers who together seek solace from their grievances, Philips starred as Holly Nolan. Complementing her TV career, she was also featured in several major motion pictures. In 1994, she played Lorri in an independent musical called Rave, Dancing to a Different Beat, in which the characters attempted to test the limits of their lives. She made numerous small appearances in addition to the films in which she played larger parts through the 1990s. An adaptation of the Danielle Steel novel of the same name, No Greater Love featured an appearance by Philips as Alexis, in 1996. She starred in Jeff Bleckner's The Advocate's Devil one year later. Victor Salva's 2001 horror film Jeepers Creepers earned much attention as one of the more truly frightening films of the few years preceding it. In it, Philips co-starred with Justin Long, and the film's major notice gave Philips an increase in public attention as well. An archeologist excavating the site of a 17th Century plague hospital inadvertently unleashes the malevolent ghost of the notorious doctor who claimed countless lives 350 years prior. During the 17th Century, a plague was sweeping across the land and a twisted doctor was feeding on the misery of his patients. Centuries later, archeologist Anna has discovered the site of the hospital that the malevolent medico worked in. As the excavation gets underway, Anna becomes trapped in the darkened corridors with a group of trespassing teens. Karen (Gina Phillips) just can't seem to shake the feeling that she's not alone on her grandmother's crumbling estate, and when she takes notice of shanty-dwelling caretaker Pierce (Tom Sizemore) she soon finds that her suspicions were well founded. Though the arrival of her sister does much to calm Karen's jangled nerves, her memories of the past soon begin taking on an increasingly ominous tone. A young woman struggles to reconcile her dreams, her ambitions and her family in this coming-of-age drama. Jordan (Gina Philips) is a teenager from Miami whose father is Hispanic and whose mother is Jewish; feeling the tug of both cultures, Jordan has rarely felt comfortable anywhere but at the podium during a debate. Jordan's skills as a high school debater are so strong that she's offered a scholarship to study at Harvard and debate on the team led by Coach Amal (Sean Astin). Jordan accepts, but after a heated competition, Jordan meets socially with a member of an opposing team and is assaulted. Disillusioned, Jordan quits debate and tries to put her life back in order. Over the next two years, she's torn between her feelings for two guys -- Chris (Brian Greenberg), who is sweet but insincere, and Elias (Adam Rodriguez), who spends too much time trying to be cool to allow her to realize how much he really cares for her. Eventually, Jordan comes to terms with ambitions and rejoins the debate team, but when she takes the podium for one of the most important contests of her life, she discovers the leader of the opposing team is the man who attacked her years before. Writer/director Nicole Kassell makes her feature film debut with the drama The Woodsman. Co-written by Steven Fechter, the original script won first place at the Slamdance Screenplay Competition in 2001. Kevin Bacon plays Walter, a child molester who gets out of prison after serving a 12-year sentence. He returns to his old town and tries to start over by working at a woodyard. Fortunately, his brother-in-law (Benjamin Bratt) helps him get a place to live. He even strikes up a relationship with local gal Vickie (Bacon's real-life wife, Kyra Sedgwick). However, Walter still struggles with his past and the suspicions of co-worker Mary-Kay (Eve) and Detective Lucas (Mos Def). A road trip rolls through a small town where the line between the dead and the living has become a bit problematic in this horror parody. A handful of twentysomethings are driving to Galveston, TX, in an RV to attend the wedding of a close friend. After a long day on the road, the travelers find themselves in a tiny town called Lovelock, where the only available accommodations are at a bed and breakfast run by the eccentric Mr. Wise (David Carradine). One of the kids, Johnny (Oz Perkins), notices that Mr. Wise is carefully looking after a small box; curious about its contents, Johnny opens it, only to unleash a torrent of evil spirits who turn the local rednecks into bloodthirsty creatures hovering somewhere between life and death. A so-called anarchist gets an unexpected crash-course in living on the edge in this independent comedy drama. Puck (Devon Gummersall) is a college dropout and self-styled political radical who lives with a handful of friends in an anarchist commune near Plano, TX. Puck's roommates and fellow semi-revolutionaries include aging hippie Johnny Red (John Savage), man-crazy feminist Karla (Gina Philips), DJ and ladies' man Sweeney (Johnny Whitworth), and cheerful mischief maker Double Dee (Steve Van Wormer). While Puck and his pals enjoy engaging in occasional acts of creative vandalism, their sense of anarchy is more a matter of personal choice than a genuine threat against the larger standing order. That begins to change when the mysterious Johnny Black (Dylan Bruno) ingratiates himself into the commune. Johnny Black's political agenda is significantly more aggressive than that of Puck and his friends, and his willingness to use violence to achieve his ends disturbs Puck, as Black not only takes control of the group, but adds guns, explosives, and sabotage to their formula. Puck also finds himself torn between his commitment to his ideals and his infatuation with Jody (Katherine Towne), whose sexual appetites run counter to her public reputation as a Christian and Young Republican organizer. Momentarily distracted by his passenger, an Indian taxi driver (Anjul Nigam) apparently strikes and kills a young boy at a busy intersection. Grissom (William L. Petersen) is among those called on the scene when the driver is nearly beaten to death by an angry white mob, whose members claim that the cabbie was trying to flee the death scene. Writer/director Victor Salva returns to his horror roots with this teen-slasher genre flick, one of several 2001 films produced by Francis Ford Coppola's American Zoetrope studio. Gina Philips and Justin Long are siblings Trish and Darry, road tripping home from college across the U.S. and bickering all the way. Menaced by a truck on the highway, the travelers encounter the same vehicle later, and what they believe is a man dumping a human body into a drainage pipe. Investigating, Darry and Trish become the intended prey of an indestructible, supernatural creature hell-bent on eating them, a murderous local myth that is proving to be all too real. As they attempt to escape their bloodthirsty pursuer, the pair discovers that even the local police station is no refuge; they also receive some advice from a knowledgeable psychic (Patricia Belcher). A man struggling to do the right thing for his child finds himself at odds with his family in this emotional drama. Tony Romano (Harvey Keitel) runs a successful clothing company in New York City; eager to share his good fortune with his family, Tony's daughter and younger son both have important positions in the firm, while his wife Fern (Mary Kay Place) has a solid business of her own running a flower shop. Tony's oldest son Jeff (Brad Rowe), however, lives in Los Angeles and is trying to get a career as a screenwriter off the ground. Jeff is already a father as the result of a short and ill-advised romance with a woman with poor self-esteem, and when he finds himself falling for Kelly (Rachel Blanchard), who works at a plasma center where Jeff sells his blood, history repeats itself and Kelly finds herself pregnant. Jeff and Kelly initially decide that an abortion would be the logical answer, but in time Kelly changes her mind, and Jeff feels he must handle his share of the responsibilities. Tony is convinced Jeff will be throwing his life away if he stays with Kelly to raise the baby (especially since Jeff admits he doesn't love her); while Jeff is determined to do the right thing for his child, he is torn between his need to face up to his responsibilities and his love for his father. Lynda La Plante (Prime Suspect) scripted this TV miniseries about the family life surrounding a Mafia don. Sicilian magnate Don Luciano (Dennis Farina) and his wife Graziella (Vanessa Redgrave) live comfortably at Villa Rosa in Palermo, Italy. Their son Michael (Michael Hayden) has an affair with Sophia (Nastassja Kinski), leaving her pregnant but unmarried. After Luciano refuses to traffic drugs, angry U.S. mob boss Carolla (Tony Lo Bianco) retaliates by having Michael killed. When Sophia secretly gives birth to Luka, her child by Michael, she then marries another Luciano brother and bears twins. Later, Carolla unwittingly adopts the teenage Luka (James Marsden), who is unaware of his own past. Carolla's vengeance continues through the years, and he passes the hatred on to Luka -- who sees that all males in the Luciano family are eliminated. Despite the slaughter, Luca charms the unsuspecting Luciano widows when he arrives at Villa Rosa, claiming to be the son of a wealthy, concerned American. How long before they learn the truth? 14-year-old Holly Nolan (Gina Philips) lives unhappily with her hyperjudgmental mother Donna (Talia Shire) and her brother Ted (Eddie Mills). To escape the pressures of her home life and make herself feel important, Holly begins hanging out with an older crowd, and in the course of events falls in love with 19-year-old Chris (Mark-Paul Gosselaar) an Army reservist who has been disowned by his family. When Donna violently objects to Holly's romance with Chris, the couple elope and head off to Calfornia, certain that all they need to survive in the "outside" world is their love for each other. But it isn't enough: Repeatedly battered down by disillusionment and deprivation, Holly and Chris can't even return to her home town, where Chris faces charges for being AWOL--and, thanks to Holly's vengeful mother, for statutory rape. With apparently no other alternative, Chris resorts to the "easiest" way to stay alive, becoming a male prostitute on the mean streets of LA. Innovative direction and a driving musical score featuring such artists as Van Halen, Peter Himmelman, Lisa Cerbone and Sarah McLaughlin) helps sustain the viewers' interest and fascination in this sordid (but not sordidly told) made-for-TV movie.
