Dennis Rodman Movies

Instantly recognizable thanks to ever-changing brightly hued hair, multiple piercings, and flamboyant personal style, eccentric basketball superstar-cum-pro-wrestler-cum action film star Dennis Rodman has attempted to translate his remarkable on-court talents to numerous other venues, often with varying results.
Born in Trenton, NJ, in 1961, Rodman's early prominence on the court with such teams as the Detroit Pistons led the justifiably cocky hoop master to fame with both the Chicago Bulls and the Los Angeles Lakers. As Rodman's frantic moves and wild behavior both on and off the court began to draw attention outside of the world of the NBA, Rodman began to branch out with a career in the WCW (World Championship Wrestling) in 1997. Taking his first starring film role in Double Team the same year, Rodman's cinematic turn didn't exactly spawn the celluloid career some may have anticipated, and its follow up (Simon Sez [1999]) made a brief bow in theaters before its hasty retreat to the home video market. A role in Cutaway followed in 2000, with Rodman once again donning his action film persona alongside veterans Tom Berringer and Stephen Baldwin. On the small screen, Rodman joined the cast of Soldier of Fortune, Inc. in 1997. Married to actress Carmen Electra in 1998, the couple remained an outwardly happy item until filing for divorce shortly after the new millennium. As a writer, Rodman's autobiography, As Bad as I Wanna Be, proved a popular read when published in 1996.
Although he became a B or C list celeb during the 21st century, he could be seen in a variety of projects and reality TV programs like The Mole, The Comebacks, and The Apprentice. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Celebrity Mole: Yucatan is the official title of The Mole's fourth season on ABC. As in the previous season's Celebrity Mole: Hawaii, a group of high-profile sports and showbiz personalities (eight players, increased from seven) compete in a variety of grueling and sometime hilarious physical and mental challenges, bearing such designations as "El Taxi Loco," "Salespeople," "Moon Over Yucatan," and "Clucks for Bucks" -- this time playing out the contest in the Yucatan Peninsula rather than the Hawaiian Isles. And as before, one of the eight players is the "mole," planted by the producers to insidiously sabotage and undermine the efforts of the other contestants, through such means as bribery, backstabbing, and downright cheating. In order to win the game, one of two finalists must determine the identity of the "mole" -- and this year every one of the celebrities fits the profile of the perpetrator. Returning from the previous season is host Ahmad Rashad, as well as contestants Stephen Baldwin and Corbin Bernsen. The newcomers include Dennis Rodman, Angie Everhart, Mark Curry, Tracey Gold, Ananda Lewis, and Keshia Knight-Pulliam. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Vic Cooper (Stephen Baldwin) is an undercover agent with U.S. Customs who is dedicated to his job, but has a bad habit of getting too close to his adversaries for his own good. Back on the force after a suspension, Cooper is assigned to infiltrate a group of nomadic sky-diving enthusiasts led by Red Line (Tom Berenger), who are believed to be smuggling drugs to support their lifestyle. Red Line and the other members of his group call themselves "cut aways" -- people who have cut their ties with conventional society to feed their appetite for the adrenaline rush of sky-diving full time. Cooper impresses Red Line and his second-in-command, Turbo (Dennis Rodman), with his sky-diving skills, and he's soon invited to join the group. But true to form, as Cooper develops a closer friendship with Red Line, he finds it harder to report his wrongdoings, and Cooper doesn't do himself any more favors when he becomes romantically involved with Star (Maxine Bahns), a beautiful female diver. Cutaway also features Casper Van Dien as Red Line's nemesis Delmira. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

Like John Woo and Ringo Lam before him, noted Hong Kong action director Tsui Hark made his American filmmaking debut with a thriller starring Jean-Claude Van Damme. For this film, Hark also had the privilege of guiding basketball star Dennis Rodman through his first dramatic role. American anti-terrorist agent Jack Quinn (Van Damme) has retired from duty, content to stay with his pregnant wife at his seaside hideaway. However, the CIA lure him back into duty for one last mission: wiping out crazed international terrorist Stavros (Mickey Rourke). Quinn flies to Antwerp to ambush Stavros, but his plan fails; Quinn is captured and imprisoned in "The Colony," a prison camp for spies "too valuable to kill and too dangerous to set free." To further torture Quinn, Stavros kidnaps Quinn's wife; after she gives birth to their son, Stavros keeps him captive, surrounded by land mines and wild animals. Quinn escapes and makes plans to rescue his wife and child, but he can't do it alone, so he seeks the help of Yaz (Rodman), a top-level underground arms merchant with a tendency towards flamboyant body modification. Rodman also appears with R&B vocalist Crystal Waters on the song "Just a Freak" which appears on the film's soundtrack. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

In this broad fish-out-of-water comedy, Nisi (Halle Berry) and Mickey (Natalie Desselle) are African-American women with two ambitions -- marry rich men who will give them lots of money, and open the world's first combination hair salon and soul food restaurant. However, eligible bachelors and business opportunities are in short supply in Decatur, Georgia, so when Nisi hears rapper Heavy D is auditioning dancers in Los Angeles for an upcoming video and concert tour, the pair hit the road for California. They fail the audition but are approached by a man named Antonio (Luigi Amodeo) with a business proposition. Antonio is the chauffeur for Mr. Blakemore (Martin Landau), a millionaire in poor health. As a young man, Mr. Blakemore was in love with a black maid who worked in his household; Antonio and Blakemore's nephew Isaac (Jonathan Fried) think Nisi bears a resemblance to the girl Blakemore once loved, so they offer her a hefty payment plus room and board to pose as the granddaughter of Blakemore's lost love. Nisi and Mickey believe that this ruse is intended to make Blakemore feel better, but in fact Isaac wants to get his hands on his uncle's fortune, and he hopes that Nisi's presence will make him easier to manipulate. Meanwhile, Nisi and Mickey look like a hurricane that hit a cut-rate clothing store, so manservant Manley (Ian Richardson) teaches them social graces and gives them advice on how to dress. In time, Manley and Mr. Blakemore become friends with Nisi and Mickey; the men learn to be less stuffy and enjoy life, while the ladies become more respectable. B.A.P.S. stands for "Black American Princesses." ~ Mark Deming, Rovi
