The first in a series of "true crime" cable-TV films based on the writings of Dominick Dunne, Murder in Greenwich retraces the brutal bludgeoning murder of Martha Moxley, a Greenwich, Connecticut high school girl, in 1975. Although the prime suspect is Martha's teenaged neighbor Michael Skakel (Jon Foster), the boy is able to evade arrest for a variety of reasons, not least of which is the fact that he is related to the politically "untouchable" Kennedy family. Over two decades later, the case is re-opened at the urging of former police detectitve Mark Fuhrman (Christopher Meloni), whose recent association with the O.J. Simpson trial has branded him a racist pariah. Despite his tarnished reputation, Fuhrman is able to enlist the aid of another detective, Steve Carroll (Robert Forster), the original investigator of the Moxley murder. Although Fuhrman and Carroll are clearly never going to be the best of friends, their combined efforts ultimately bring the elusive (and now adult) Michael Skakel to justice. Not surprisingly, the real Mark Fuhrman was one of the producers of Murder in Greenwich, which made its USA Network debut on November 15, 2002. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

In this Xena variation on the John Ford epic The Searchers, Xena (Lucy Lawless) tries to make up for a past mistake by rescuing a girl named Vanesa (Beth Allen), kidnapped in infancy by the Horde. But Vanesa, who now calls herself Pilee, doesn't want to be rescued. Meanwhile, Xena and Gabrielle (Renee O'Connor) must prevent the obsessive, Horde-hating Milo (Craig Ancill) from finding and killing Vanesa first. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Arguably the most successful program ever to emerge from New Zealand network television, The Tribe was set several years after a mysterious virus wiped out the entire adult population of the Earth. The only humans left were those aged 18 and under, who, in order to survive, formed their own small tribes, most of them predatory and violent in nature. The series focused on a tribal group comprised of basically good kids who roamed the empty streets, decaying office buildings, and deserted shopping malls in search of food, clothing, and the necessary technology to stay alive. Such vicious rival gangs as the Demon Dogs and the Locusts regularly pounced upon the characters whom the audience cared about, and there was never any forewarning as to who would still be standing at the end of each episode. Not unexpectedly, several of the young actors on The Tribe proved to be extremely popular with teen and preteen viewers, though this did not in any way prevent the demise of several "likable" characters if the scripts so demanded. Debuting in New Zealand on April 24, 1999, The Tribe was originally telecast two times per week, with each half-hour episode picking up where the previous one left off. The program went on to air in the U.S. via the MoviePlex cable service. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Independent feminist filmmaker Sarah Jacobson directed this blunt comedy about a teenager learning to deal with her emotional and sexual needs. Mary Jane (Lisa Gerstein) is a 17-year-old girl from the Midwest who works at a movie theater specializing in foreign and independent films. Her co-workers are the cream of the city's bohemian crowd, and cute but awkward Mary Jane wishes that there was some way she could fit in. Regarding her virginity as a serious roadblock on the path to greater coolness, Mary Jane allows herself to be seduced by a local lout named Steve, who leaves her very much unsatisfied and hits the road immediately after their brief tryst in a cemetery. Frustrated and unhappy, Mary Jane begins commiserating with her co-workers, several of whom have friendly advice for her. Punk rocker Ericka (Beth Ramona Allen) coaches Mary Jane on sexual technique and the joys of masturbation, gay manager Dave (Greg Cruikshank) offers lots of sympathy and advice on men, and new guy Tom (Chris Enright) displays an encouraging interest in her. Beth Ramona Allen is also a member of the punk rock band The Loudmouths, who appear on the soundtrack, along with Babes in Toyland, Mudhoney, Steel Pole Bathtub, Red Aunts, AFI, and The Cosmic Psychos. Former Dead Kennedys frontman Jello Biafra makes a cameo appearance. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi
